I have an embarrassing secret. I am absolutely addicted to Gossip Girl. I know it’s completely tacky and implausible, not to mention cheesy and melodramatic. But I can’t help myself. I CAN’T HELP MYSELF. Plus, the clothes are fantastic. And so, for this inaugural post I’ve decided to reproduce an outfit from an upcoming episode.
Yes, I’m aware not everyone can rock the shiny, skin-tight leggings look with confidence, but in this color, with a longer tunic, it can actually be pretty slimming.
So first, let’s look at an approximation of how much this would have cost with the original designer pieces. Now I’m just guessing here, but the leggings are probably Matthew Williamson Metallic Leggings, original retail price $230. The cardigan looks like this Edun Mine Sleeveless Cardigan ($155), and the gold loafers look similar to these Gucci leather “Britt” loafers ($440). The Chanel logo necklace probably retails around $500, so let’s say this original look cost around $1,325.
One of my favorite things in the world is finding cheap versions of designer pieces. It makes me feel like I cheated the system, and as ridiculous as it sounds, makes me feel more confident in my clothing. So I scoured the internet and found some cheaper alternatives for y’all. Read More »

I knew it was a bad idea for Jennifer Lopez to have a baby.
I knew it. My reasoning, initially, was that there is NO WAY that she wouldn’t be the most selfish mother on the planet earth. I figured, she’ll pop out two super demons and quickly drop them off with some nanny named Maria that she can holler at in Spanish on how to raise her children, while she exercises her famous ass off on the Stairstepper and gets back to taking over the world… one floppy umbrella hat at a time.
Oh no, instead she has decided to breed a new set of materialistic, cashmere wrapped, $169 dollar onesie wearing, BABIES. I understand that money is all “perspective” but for Gods sake, what happens when they spit up on their cashmere blankie? Does it become a dish towel, or toilet paper??
The babies don’t know the difference, the parents do. Therefore, J.Lo’s ridiculous spending is just validation that she has an irrational case of diva behavior. Even Beyonce would be impressed by this.
Let’s give you the run down: Read More »

There is a reason why pro-football players aren’t actors. The same reason why actors aren’t pro-football players.
There is a reason we come into this nice, little world, with…gifts. And unless you’re some SUPER HUMAN FREAK, you don’t tend to have gifts that cross into a million different categories.
So when Vanessa Minnillo, used-to-be MTV VJ and super babe girlfriend to Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson’s former husband, announces she is making, “a film.“, I want to tell her to grab a microphone, bust out an ab-roller, do her hair, tell me what the number one video of the week is, and then-shut up.
I get that a job like VJing is, to most, a platform to a “greater success.” But when was the last time a VJ came out with an Oscar winning, or even bearable film that didn’t go straight to DVD? I don’t think ever? Or didn’t join some cheesy teen sitcom (One Tree Hill- Hilarie Burton)?
Come to think of it, its not just VJ’s who are overextending themselves, Hollywood in general is getting ridiculously greedy. Read More »

Everyone knows you really, reaally, reeeeeally want that big black Chanel bag.
Your mother knows. Your boyfriend knows. Your best friend knows. Hell, your fourth grade piano teacher knows. And yes you’ve been nice (enough), Santa knows.
The holiday season is the best time to scratch our heads and think reeeeal hard about which designer bag we would absolutely adore to see under the tree. Sure there’s jewelry and clothes, gadgets and perfume, but nothing says “I Love You” like P-R-A-D-A.
Of course, when shopping or asking it’s imperative to keep an eye out for schemes and rip-offs. A little good-hearted holiday spirit is the easiest thing for scammers to cheat. So how do you know if your bag’s a fake? Check out this video, and then read these fake bag tip-offs.
Memorize if you must! Read More »

As many new Freshmen begin packing up for orientation, nervous parents everywhere are worrying about their safety. How will my daughter protect herself from those occasional college crazies?
They think to themselves, “How can I be sure she’ll be safe when she walks back to her dorm at 2 A.M?”
Well, girls, if you’ve got parents like these, tell them to relax. Because I’ve got just the thing that will keep you protected—and stylish at the same time.
Taser International has just unveiled it’s newest, 50,000 volt hand-held stun gun that not only renders a subject incapable of brain function for a few minutes, but comes in cute colors like “metallic pink”, “electric blue”, “titanium silver” and “black pearl”. Read More »

I fully agree with some of the gripes that Leah has with Teen Vogue (seriously, the duration of their internships is growing painful). However, while browsing the site recently, I came upon a program Teen Vogue sponsers that seems like it may be worthwhile.
Teen Vogue Fashion University takes place throughout the weekend of October 26-28 in a variety of venues in NYC. The event is designed for girls ages 18-22 who are looking to become involved in some aspect of the fashion industry.
The list of guest speakers is impressive, ranging from designers Vera Wang and Phillip Lim to Tim Gunn (from Project Runway) to fashion and beauty photographer Kevin O’Brien. For $150, “students” will get to choose which seminars they would like to attend, recieve a tour of the Teen Vogue offices, attend a concert by up-and-coming band Locksley and network with some major names in the fashion world. Everybody’s favorite waif and occasional coke user, debuted her new clothing line at Top Shop this week. Shock me, shock me, shock me with your out of character behavior Ms. Moss. Is anybody really suprised that this fashion maven would team up with Topshop, the British company that manages to bring looks from the runway to stores in only a matter of weeks, at prices us mere mortals can afford? I didn’t think so.
This lady was behind the push towards high-waisted denim trend after all and was sporting skin tight jeans when the rest of us were still lounging around in boot-cuts.
I don’t care what anybody says, I salute you Kate. I think it’s postively swell that she would team up with Topshop, when H&M dropped her as the face of their campaign after those infamous pictures of her snorting the white stuff hit the press in 2005.
Let’s face it, isn’t H&M just a b-side version of Topshop after all? I would much rather sport similar duds of Sienna Miller and Kate Moss than deck myself in the weirdly business-like, yet clubby clothes from Madonna’s line at H&M. Does anybody really need a white leotard? Does Madonna even need a white leotard? Let’s be honest with ourselves folks. I hope those Swedes are kicking themselves right now. Read More »

As I patiently await the arrival of the Material Girl’s collection for H&M, I couldn’t help but take a sneak peak on hm.com.
After using up about an hour of my valued facebook time, I finally made my way through H&M’s slow website. I have decided Madonna should stick to her day job.
It’s clear Madonna is not a clothing designer. Her clothes seem to go from ridiculous (a catsuit? A turban?) to extremely boring. Do we really need another little black dress or a white pant suit? She also seems to love thick belts and cropped pants that fall right below the knee. I know she loves riding horses but I don’t have a need for riding pants.
The M by Madonna collection is also far from the normally affordable H&M price tags. I mean there are some items I am considering buying, like a white trench, and a sequence mod dress, but they’re a little pricey.
Once images of the collection are available I will give an update, but in the meantime check out the collection here.
