[In early adulthood there is an activity that plays a large role in most of our lives; nights out on the town. And with those nights out always comes the question: “What am I gonna wear?!?”
Each week I’ll be putting together a cute and affordable “going out” ensemble guide (that you can tweak to your own personal style and body type, of course) so that maybe that age-old question can be answered a little quicker than usual. And your friends aren’t waiting - for hours - for you to emerge from your room. Just consider me your own (free) personal Rachel Zoe. Only I weigh more than 88 pounds.]
Many of you will be heading off to somewhere warm and balmy in the next few weeks to take part in that ritual known as Spring Break. While spring break means lots of partying, beach time, and drinking with friends, it also means lookin’ super hot in all those summer styles you haven’t been able to bust out for months.
So leave the sweaters, scarves and snowpants at home, and bring on the color. It’s time to have a little fun, Spring Break style. Read More »

With the economy being what it is, I’ve found myself turning to the Internet more and more for both my daily necessities and my fashion cravings. If I see something in a store I like, I immediately look it up online, sometimes while I’m still in the store (thank you, iPhone), to find out if I can get it online for cheaper.
Other stores exist only in the online realm, and those can be very hit or miss. And when they’re selling items from a brand I’ve never tried before, it can be a bit nerve wracking ordering anything. Thank the recession gods, then, that there are websites that sell non-brand but still on-trend fashions for prices that are so low, I can browse, buy, and try out different styles without taking (too much) away from my rent money. [Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.
All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]
I don’t looove Kim Kardashian (I still don’t understand why she’s famous?), but there are a few things I do love about her.
1) Her badunkadunk. More, how she flaunts it, dresses it and embraces it.
2) Her step-brother, Brody Jenner. Mmmm.
3) Her show. I know – I can’t believe I said it either, but it’s funny. You know, in that “this is so ridiculous and it makes my family look SO normal” sorta way. Just don’t tell anyone I watch it; I’ve got a reputation to keep here.
4) This outfit. It’s simple. It’s classy. It’s flattering to all body types. And it’s easy to copy. All while saving up some extra Benjamins for the weekend bar trip.
Here’s this week’s celebrity chic on the cheap: Kim Kardashain Looks cute Covered Up! Read More »

We’ve teamed up with our friends at FashionPulseDaily to bring you the best of Forever 21. Every Wednesday, we’ll highlight a fabulous Forever 21 item that stands out above the rest in that over-crowded (but totally fabulous), color coordinated store. For more fashion fun, check out FashionPulseDaily.
Without a doubt, it can certainly be a challenge to find a dress that is winter-weather worthy. Oftentimes, I just throw on a pair of thick tights under my favorite summer dresses, and off I go!
The ideal winter dress, this Madeira Knit Dress, $22.80, has a knit bodice and tweed skirt portion to it, that also has a bit of wool for some extra warmth. I’m not suggesting to ditch the tights, merely to pick-up a cute winter-specific item which will give you a style, and warmth boost.

This lightweight cardigan is far from boring, in its exuberant color palette and feminine detailing. Its dainty enough to even sport as a blouse, letting the oversized bow rest over a chunkier sweater. The Chiffon Trim Sweater is just $29 – we’d style it with some dark skinny jeans and round-toe or peep-toe pumps in a pastel hue with large stud earrings in our lobes.

Some people say these dresses make you look like you wrapped yourself in a shiny bandage. To those people I say booooo (a strong comeback, I know).
I would have these glorious Herve Leger frocks as total staples if I could afford to buy thousand dollar dresses by the handful. But until I master that plan I will have to stick to my Herve Leger perfume and, like you, buy the cheaper versions of these so-hot-right-now dresses.
Every celebrity and “celebrity” under the sun has been seen in this Herve Leger Style – from Christina to Becks to Jenny McCarthy, and from the A list aaaaall the way down.
I’m sure we will be seeing many more a-knock-off on these dresses, but in the meantime I bring you:

If there is one new trend I love, it’s the scarf. Weird that it became uber popular during the summer – as if I don’t sweat enough already in this humidity/heat combo. But, now that we are transitioning to fall I am all about the scarf.
It makes a schlumpy outfit look instantly pulled together (perfect for class) and it makes a dressy top that you would want to wear on a weekday (read: walk home from that cute boy’s place) a bit more casual (and not so obvious).
They keep you warm, spruce up an outfit and cover up hickeys (do people still even get hickeys anymore?!). Pretty much – scarves are perfection.
Jessica Alba jumped on this trend long ago and I think it’s time we all follow suit…er…scarf. I know this week I’m neglecting an entire ‘fit, but that’s the beauty of the scarf/wrap: it really goes with EVERYTHING. Read More »

So we’ve all seen the trends for the fall.
Every time I’m in a store, I feel like I was thrown back into my time machine and should be busting out a version of High School Musical of my very own: The 1990′s edition. Okay well, actually, I was in middle school when plaid/flannels and all that other 90′s garb was popular, which left everyone questioning if that girl in the flannel button down and the hiking boots was actually a girl.
But at least this time around some of the 90′s fashions are coming back with a feminine twist. Like Vanessa’s plaid dress: it’s edgy, yes it’s plaid, but it’s gives you a waist AND shows some cleavage (cuz we know V. Hudge wouldn’t go out in public in a drabby table cloth-y thing).
So this week I bring you: Celebrity Chic On The Cheap: Punk-Rock Plaid Goes Glam. I never thought those words would come out of my mouth (much like, “I really like the taste of beer”), but the world of fashion is always surprising me.
Plaid Dress: So this dress isn’t plaid, but it’s tweed and has the adorable bow. Throw it on with some pumps or some chunky black tights and, as it gets colder, a black or white longsleeve shirt under it to give it some texture. It’s adorable and afforadable. (and the same price as a High School Musical DVD)
Other plaid Options: The neckline is on this fabulously plaid dress is retro, the plaid pattern is discreet, and the dress is rockin. Rock it out with a leather jacket in the fall, or keep it sweet with dainty shoes and delicate jewwlry. Read More »

I love Target. I get all my work clothes from there, plus all the generic little add-ons to my play clothes. I mean, is there anyone out there who isn’t obsessed with this store? So, when I took my weekly shopping trip there this weekend, I was totally stoked to see the newest addition to the Go International line!
I skipped through the aisles. I danced to the dressing room. I filled my cart with every last piece of the line from Richard Chai. His collection features clothes that range from business casual to Plain Jane casual. Chai’s fun yet subtle use of color runs throughout the line, while he still maintains a more sophisticated air than you would expect from a line at Target.
But, while this line has many good things to offer (the colors are fun without being over the top, most of the looks classic), it just fell short for me. (I know, I was surprised too!) A lot of the clothes felt a little too old and the cuts of the shirts made me feel shapeless. It also seriously lacked a fun and flirty side that previous Go collections flaunted. The summer line, for example, was all about, “Look at me! I’m flirty and sophisticated! Wouldn’t this outfit look great with a margarita?” Read More »
