Eight months after radio-host Don Imus used racial slurs against the Rutgers Women’s Basketball teams he’s back on the air – and he’s not racist anymore! Promise!
Imus (and the heads at RFD-TV, no doubt) must have thought it would be a great idea to prove his non-racial stance by hiring on not one but two black comedians. (We are only calling attention to their race to prove how “un-racist” we are here at College Candy.)
Diversity has a name, or two names in this case: comedians Karith Foster and Tony Powell. Foster is a Jewish/African-American/Texan who graduated from Oxford (JACKPOT!) and Powell is…an African-American comedian!
Don Imus, African-American sidekick(s), continued wisecracks and controversy – sounds like the show is extending an olive-branch towards its infamous rival.
Will this act of unity (and comedy) scream heavy-duty marketing or turn this never-ending controversy on its ear? Tune in to WABC-AM (or RFD-TV) and find out.
I was half thrilled, half shocked to learn that Don Imus‘ show was actually nixed from MSNBC and to top it off, CBS just eliminated his radio show! That is so flippin’ major I can’t even contain my enthusiasm.
As with many racial matters in this country, I totally thought it would be a brushed off kind of issue within days. Fortunately, I was wrong, Imus received a serious, serious punishment for his racial slur.
Sorry, dude, but you’re not getting any special treatment for being some kind of TV/radio star.
“Nappy headed hos,” isn’t a phrase I’d utter in the privacy of my bedroom, let alone on the radio for everyone and their mother to hear. After all, it isn’t one of my life’s ambitions to be chased with pitch forks. I’m a nice girl and I have a nice rep.
Don Imus, on the other hand, is a naughty, racist asshole. If you haven’t heard the news already, last Wednesday on his “Imus in the morning” radio show, Imus referred to the Rutgers Women’s Basketball players as “rough girls,” “man, they got tattoos,” and finally, the comment heard round the world “that’s some nappy headed hos, I’ll tell you that.”
Whoa, dude, what in god’s name were you thinking? Personally, I’m disgusted and I feel bad for the Rutgers b-ball girls. How insulting.
Yeas, Imus is being punished, but it’s only a suspension from his silly radio show. How bout some real justice? Is it really okay to let such a racist remark be swept under the rug? To top it off, Imus has yet to give the girls a much deserved personal apology.
Team captain, Essence Carson said today, “I would like to express our team’s great hurt, anger and disgust toward the words of Mr. Don Imus. We are highly angered at his remarks but deeply saddened with the racial characterization they entailed.”
I’m with you, girl.
