[One of the greatest aspects of college life is the morning-after recap with friends. You stumble out of bed, grab your liquid of choice, and gather around the living room to replay (and remind yourself of) the events of last night. You laugh, you cringe and you share the highest of highs...and the rock-bottom lowest of lows. We thought we'd bring the fun of the recap to CollegeCandy, so grab that coffee and take part in the deliciously awkward moments your CC friends have to share.]
The second weekend of freshman year I was still riding on the elation of being at college and the freedom it offered. One of those freedoms being the freedom to drink as much as I wanted when I wanted. The girls on my hall and I were invited to a party at the baseball apartment off campus where I met a very cute, older, baseball player who seemed to take an interest in me. A few drinks later we were making out in his buddy’s room (or so I’ve been told by my friends who busted in to see what was going on).
Eventually everyone decided to take the party back to campus and go to what we call the “old apartments,” which is basically this crazy set of apartments on campus that are renowned for being crazy party spots. The one thing that is still clear to me (besides losing numerous games of beer pong) was that the cute older baseball boy could not remember my name. After being called different names that all started with the letter of my first name but were definitely NOT my name, I became a little upset with this adorable boy who wanted me to spend the night. The only thing harder than saying goodbye to your roommate for the summer is packing up your dorm… and mopping all of the dried beer of the floor. And scrubbing your desk where pizza sauce has been encrusted for months. And figuring out how to pack it all into your two-door. Yeah, moving out sucks. But moving IN with your parents again… well, let’s face it. It rocks.
Here are my top ten faves about crashing with Mom and Dad for three months. What are yours?
1. You can live with your parents without looking like a deadbeat loser.
You have an excuse: You’re still in college and the dorms closed. If you were 35 and working at the Venus Club and living with the ‘rents… you might belong on Jerry Springer. But there’s nothing shameful about going back to your teenage years and living under their roof for one more summer.
2. You’re a legal adult now.
Maybe your parents tried to force some strict rules on you in high school, and you vowed to move out asap. But now, you’re an adult. So even if they try to enforce a curfew, you at least have the “I’m a grown up” argument, which can be bolstered with “I just made Dean’s List,” or “In college, you aren’t keeping tabs on me and I made it home alive, didn’t I?” Plus, a lot of parents won’t even pick that fight, because they realize that you are an adult, you are a responsible collegiate, and they don’t want to know what happens on spring break. College pet peeve #582. We are required to move out of the dorms 24 hours after our last final. Theoretically, you should be spending your last week or two studying. Not packing. And what if you finish exams mid-week and your ‘rents can’t drive up to haul your stuff home because, you know, they have jobs?
Packing at the end of the semester is a bitch. But, on the bright side, it’s still better than the cleaning that comes after packing. Make your life easier by getting a head start on moving out for the summer, by following these simple suggestions!
1. Clean up after yourself.
I am guilty of letting things slide when I’m stressed. I procrastinate on everything from vacuuming to bringing the 57 empties from last night’s dorm party to the recycling bin. However, if you take five seconds (okay, five minutes, tops) out of your day to clean up the little things, you won’t have so much clutter-slash-junk-slash-trash to wade through when you’re trying to round up the stuff you actually want to keep. We all want to go home for Easter, but sadly, it’s nearing the end of the school year, and so we’re more likely to be munching on terrible dining-hall food than we are on delicious hollow chocolate rabbits. Before you get depressed about all the candy (oh yeah….and love) you’re missing back home, try bringing the Easter spirit into your own home. No, I’m not talking about Jesus.
I’m talking about an Easter bash. I throw one every year and it’s always fun, festive, and almost as good as the stuff my mom makes back home. Plus, it’s super easy. Here are some tips on throwing your own! Read More »

Here’s a secret: the editors of CollegeCandy are not in college anymore. And we cry about it every day. Seriously. We thought running a site for college girls would help us stay young, but waking up every day and reading about your college lives makes us want to do a keg stand…and then cry in the corner.
When we were still in school (only a short time ago, thankyouverymuch), we took it for granted. The freedom, the endless flow of money into our bank accounts, the drink specials, the endless flow of men up and down the hallways of our dorm… We never appreciated what we had. And now we are in the real world. And it sucks.
We felt it was our duty to remind you how good you have it. Life will never be as awesome as college – you can’t stay home from work because you feel like it, you can’t trip and fall on a cute and available guy, and Thirsty Thursdays no longer exist. So take a moment and think about your favorite thing about college life. Our writers did and here is what they have to say: Read More »

[Life isn’t black and white. As much as we wish we simply loved or hated things, there is often that whole annoying gray area in the middle. Like, we hate how Walmart treats its employees…but we love the low prices! Or, we love how that boy makes us laugh….but we hate that he has no motivation in life. Damn you, gray area; you make decision-making that much more complicated!
There are so many difficult choices in life (do we love or hate high heels??), so we thought we’d sort through ‘em right here. Every week we will discuss another issue we are torn up about. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!]
Whether you call it the caf, the d-hall or the sh*t hole, you definitely have one. The dining hall is a place to meet with friends, grab a bite to eat or flirt with the sandwich guy. As college students, we spend endless amounts of time there, whether by choice or because our schools force us to pay for meal plans. And, just like every other serious relationship in our lives, this one has a lot of highs and a lot of lows. Read More »

So finally it is spring…well, at least the snow is sort of melting here, and the temperature is starting to average above freezing during the day. This is the time to be outside on the slushy grass or walking around campus, right?
Well, I wish. It seems like spring at college, I am realizing, is the time of the cold, the headache, the sore throat, and the contagious undergrads.
I’ve noticed everyone here is getting sick. I’m told it’s because I’ve never lived with so many people before, and that we’re all staying inside so much. Basically, germs are running wild. So drink your orange juice for Vitamin C and avoid sneezing classmates. Not that any of that really worked out well for me. And I must say, I’ve learned a very important lesson: taking care of yourself when you’re sick at college is the worst. Read More »

Ah, the Futon. The good ol’ Flip and F**k. The piece of furniture that is really not so cute or comfortable and takes up so much space in your already tight dormroom quarters. But it is convenient. Really convenient.
Bet you didn’t know this, but cute futons do exist! You can be an interior decorator extraordinaire and still have a friend (or two) crash after a particularly rough bar night. Here are some of the hottest futons on the market! Read More »
