Ben and Lauren, the brains behind TFLN
It used to be that I spent a good chunk of my day stalking my friends (OK, my exes) on Facebook, but all that changed the minute TextsFromLastNight came into my life. Now most of my time is spent LOLing at my computer and emailing my latest faves to my friends. And I know I’m not the only one. TFLN, a website born out of a drunken weekend in Detroit, gets over 15,000 submissions a day and 5 million readers LOLers a month. It’s even been nominated for a Webby award, a huge honor in the Internet world, especially for a site that documents drunken debauchery. (Go vote for it!)
Since my very first TFLN encounter (“I used a bag of wine as a pillow last night”) I’ve been determined to meet the geniuses behind it and kiss them on the mouth shake their hands. And I finally got my chance… to talk to them, at least. Last week I got to sit down with Ben Bator and get a behind-the-scenes look at TextsFromLastNight: how it started, where it’s headed, and how they choose which texts will earn a coveted spot on the site.
I also got his direct number so I could send all my drunk texts directly to him, but I’m gonna keep that one to myself.

By now, everyone knows and loves (and quotes) the website Texts from Last Night. (Even my parents.) Most college students can relate to the drunken and crazy antics described in the texts show up on there. I know my friends and I can spend entire afternoons poring over that site, laughing until we pee a little.
And now there’s a new site out there inspired by TFLN that promises the same kind of fun and amusement: Party School Texts.
Like TFLN, Party School Texts works by having people submit the hilarious texts that they’ve either received or sent themselves. What’s different, however, is that it’s geared exclusively at college students. Founded by four college students in Florida, Party School Texts seeks to determine which school in the country is truly the #1 party school by ranking the drunk texts sent by its students.

I am currently going through my most difficult breakup yet in college: my relationship with Spring Break has ended. This was the first year I went away for the week, and I must say I’m appalled that anyone expects me to just come back to campus and start going to class and (gasp) STUDYING. Can’t I at least get a week of mourning, people!? Let’s compare…
Last week, I woke up and looked at the beach from my 10th floor balcony (and then I shotgunned a beer).
This morning, I woke up at the crack of dawn and dragged my ass to 3 hours of lecture. I was also informed that I would have 2 exams this week. WTF.
Last week, I went to the bars every night and probably didn’t buy a single drink for myself.
This week...OH WAIT, no time for the bars, I have to study and catch up on papers/project/readings.
Where is my bikini, where is my tequila sunrise, and most importantly, WHERE is that cute boy with the six-pack that I made out with on the beach!?!?!
I know many of you ladies are going through a similar breakup, so here are just a few of the things that are helping me through this most difficult time: Read More »

There’s a great many things to do and places to see in this world of ours. As humans, our lives are pretty short (and if you party like I do, it’s probably going to be even shorter). So we have to prioritize! We have brains for a reason and that reason is…reasoning (well, at least some of us use them for that purpose: see comment about partying above). Let me be your voice of reason as I show you all the things you should be doing right here, right now.
I love texting. It is perhaps my favorite invention next to the internet (how can that not be everyone’s favorite invention??). My love has gotten to the point where I send out about a hundred text messages a day, but only make phone calls every couple of days. That got me thinking…what happened to my voice?
There are articles peppered all over the web about the many “dangers” of excessive text messaging. After dismissing most of these as ridiculous and the product of the hypochondriac generation, I began to see some truth. Yes, my thumbs do hurt sometimes. Hours of clutching my phone, waiting for the slightest vibration (and validation that the guy from last weekend actually wants to see me again) exhausts me mentally and physically. And I can even get annoyed by my own text message alert sound. Perhaps I should take a step away from my phone and get a couple breaths of fresh air.
Here are some reasons why you should, too! Read More »
