Week after week (after week after week…), CollegeCandy and our pal John bring you some of the weirdest, funniest, and saddest things he hears on his college campus. And we know he’s not the only one who hears this stuff. Join the Overheard revolution! Listen in on some weirdos’ conversations and share them in the comments or send ‘em over. You know there’s a lot of funny things to be heard on your campus, so take off those (faux) Burberry ear muffs and tune in.

(Guy, walking out of a package store with three 30-packs of beer.)

Guy: Yeah, I’ve been trying really hard on this whole “New Year’s Resolution” thing. Think I’m doing okay so far.

(Girl, talking to a guy at a bar.)

Girl: Are you related to that guy on stage?

Guy: Who?

Girl: You look a lot like him.

Guy: No, I don’t.

Woman: Okay, you’re right. I’m just trying to hit on you.

(Girl, complaining in the student union lounge.)

Girl: I used to like Gaga, you know, back when I thought she was a hermaphrodite. Like, I’d watch her, and I’d be like “yeah, this is good, I like this,” but I was always on my toes. Because you never know when something might just – pop out! It was exciting.

(Two girls, talking in a nearby restaurant booth.)

Girl: It was like … I touched him, you know, in … how d’you say. His penis.

(Professor, working with a winter session math class.)

Student: I don’t get this problem. So we can get the gas halfway across the desert, but then we still have to get back. Seems impossible.

Prof: *chuckling* Ask your dad when you’re older.

(Girl and a guy, talking outside an apartment.)

Girl: Just … listen, if you hear anything that sounds like a door opening and people stealing all my stuff, try and stop them, okay?

(Guy in a Dunkin’ Donuts line, talking to a girl.)

Guy: New thing I did last night. I tried typing, you know, random nouns into Ebay. Like “stuff” and “product.” And see what happens. It was fun.

Girl: This is why you still live with your mom.

(Girl, guy, talking over coffee.)

Guy: She made me a mix CD before I left.

Girl: Uh-oh. That’s it. She wants you.

Guy: You think so?

Girl: That mix CD is like her womb enveloping your musical taste. She wants to take you and birth you as her own.

(Two girls, in a movie theater hallway.)

Girl 1: Avatar? No, it was Fatatar.

Girl 2: The best part was when they blew up Home Pizza.

College students are strapped for cash on a normal, average day of the year. Which means we are doubly strapped for cash when the need to buy Christmas and Chanukah gifts arises. Winter activities like ice skating and hot chocolate (or just our usual shopping/handles-of-vodka ways) are sucking up our funds and now we need to buy 30 gifts for every member of our sorority…it’s not pretty.

But what some of you may not realize is that instead of working overtime 3 weeks straight to save up enough to get your parents, your boyfriends and all your bff’s something nice, you could just sell your old stuff that you never use and make enough to do all your holiday shopping and maybe pick up a pair of those awesome boots you’ve been eying in the Macy’s catalog…

Sell Your Clothes
We all have those sweaters that we leave in the box in the basement marked “winter,” swearing year after year that we’ll wear it next time the season rolls around. I know it’s hard to get rid of clothing (especially seeing how everything comes back in style in, like, 2 years), but if you haven’t worn it in the past year, it needs to go. And there are plenty of people willing to buy it from you. Google local consignment shops and bring in all your stuff. They won’t take everything, but if you have clothes that look like new with a recognizable label, your chances are pretty good. And earning 20 bucks a pair for that stack of jeans that you’ve been trying to fit back into since senior year of high school really adds up.

Sell Your Books
Instead of selling your books back to the bookstore and walking away with pocket change, put them on Amazon. You’ll make back at least 50% of what you paid for them and you can get rid of them all (unlike the bookstore where you lug all 10 textbooks to that joint and they tell you only 2 of them are eligible to be sold back). Plus, Amazon only charges you when your book sells, so if it doesn’t, it’s no change out of your wallet. And since everyone has registered for their next semester classes, the overachievers among us will already be online looking to secure all their books before winter break.

Sell Your Gold
We’ve all seen the commercials with some creepy dude begging us to put our “unwanted gold” in an envelope and send it away to some stranger. Yeah, it seems like a total scam but that ish is legit. The price of gold has gone up, so now is the best time to gather up those ugly bracelets you got for your Bat Mitzvah, Sweet 16, or you just “borrowed” from your mom in high school and never returned and sell them! If you don’t trust the mail-away places, there are plenty of local jewelry stores that will buy your gold back. I sold 2 old bracelets (that were way ugly and just took up space in my jewelry box) and walked away with $300! That’s enough for a bunch of gifts and a little somethin’ for myself!

Sell Your Miscellaneous Crap
Ebay and Craigslist are the best things to ever happen to a hoarder. I have 200 beanie babies, 30 of those pointless glass figurines, and dozens of collector’s edition Barbies still in the boxes. Let’s be honest: our kids aren’t going to want our old beanie babies someday when they can get a Webkins complete with an online profile (and, despite how much we hoped they would accumulate worth over the past 10 years, Beanies are no collector’s item). It’s time to log on and sell those suckers.

Making a seller profile on Ebay is super easy and cheap (postings cost less than dollar) and listing on CL is even easier! Those old speakers you never use, the plastic storage bins your mom had delivered for your dorm room, jewelry that’s been sitting in a bin on your desk…. you might think no one will want your old crap, but you’d be surprised. Your trash is someone else’s treasure; someone who is up late on a Wednesday night surfing Craigslist for the exact limited edition Garcia Bear you’re hawking. Get that stuff listed and you’ll have extra money in your wallet….FAST.
Someone just legitimately purchased old hair follicles and dandruff for the price of a small car. This got me thinking:

Yup, that's what $18,000 worth of Elvis hair looks like.

I’ve sold a few items on eBay, and it’s truly wild what people will buy these days (although no one wanted my used retainer… strange). Recently, a clump of Elvis’s hair sold for $18,000 at an auction in Chicago. I don’t know how I feel about this. Someone just legitimately purchased old hair follicles and dandruff for the price of a small car. This got me thinking:

What other celebrity items would make a killing on the auction block?

You know what would make a good centerpiece at the dinner table? Michael Phelps’ bong. Stick a few flowers in it and call it a vase. I mean, that’s what he was using it for, wasn’t it? Better yet, MP should put some of those luscious speed suits up on Ebay. Who wouldn’t pay a pretty penny to get that up close and personal with his junk?

And what about the prosthetic vampire teeth Robert Pattinson wears in Twilight. I bet some young pre-teen would crack open her piggy bank for that item. Used, of course. Perhaps we should add them to our New Moon gift basket. Talk about a good addition to your Halloween costume. Famous fangs!

And Lord knows Amy Winehouse has a ton of stuff to sell (to pay for her daily dose of horse tranquilizers, of course):

Amy Winehouse’s hair extensions – $50
Crack pipe – $100
I just wonder what she could get for that last shred of dignity. It’s simply priceless.

If you really want to discuss an item of value, let me offer up some authentic Richard Simmons‘ booty shorts for sale. Naturally, any pair worn in an exercise video would demand a higher price than just his daily going-to-the-grocery-store pairs, as they have a higher (ball) sweat-saturation. And Richard Simmons sweat is like the nectar of the gods. Just imagine what kind of motivation would come with the authentic essence of Rich on your lower half.

And don’t think we forgot about you, Paris. How much do you think Paris Hilton‘s house arrest ankle bracelet would sell for on eBay? It would probably be categorized as a celebrity chic fashion accessory, perfect with a pair of Louboutin (knock-off) pumps.

God, knowing how much someone spent on Elvis’s hair, I can only imagine what Balloon-boy‘s family could get for that flying saucer. If my R.A. would let me tie it to the side of my dorm, I’d buy it in a heartbeat and be a part of history!

Here’s a question: How many things do you have lying around that you don’t use anymore? How many things do you have that you’ve never used?

I’m betting it’s more than you think. When you’re done reading this article, go take a peek in the back of your closet or the depths of your dresser drawers. It’s no secret: they’re filled with crap.

Everyone has junk they don’t need. One person’s trash might be another person’s treasure, but really, it’s probably just a piece of junk. So in honor of spring-cleaning time, here are some ideas for moving your junk out of your home and into someplace other than a landfill.

Thrift Stores:
Duh, we all know how awesome thrift stores are. If you have a few pieces in your closet that you don’t wear but can’t bear to part with, maybe you can give them the thrift-store treatment by finding accessories that go with them or using them to enhance other thrift-store finds (using a great fabric to sew patches onto jeans, for example). Or just donate your crap. It’s probably stylish to somebody.

Consignment Shops:
These stores are popping up all over the country right now thanks to the economy, and they are the perfect way to get rid of last season’s clothes (or the last five seasons if you haven’t cleaned that closet in awhile). Simply pull everything you no longer wear out of the closet, make sure it’s all clean and in good shape, then take it to the local consignment store and sell it! You can get anywhere from 35-50% of what they sell your stuff for, which is a great way to make room in your wardrobe for new duds….and the money to buy ‘em.

Stuff Swap:
I love this idea. Since you’re never the only one with a bunch of junk, call up all your friends and get them to gather their junk, too. Then have a free-for-all swap or barter arrangement where you can score sweet finds from people you already know. The more people you can get involved the better—you might even think about organizing this as an official event at your school. You and your friends could even hold a yard sale and collect cashola for the stuff you don’t use anymore. Which brings me to . . .

Sell It:
Why not make some cash from the stuff you don’t use anymore? Undercut the bookstore by selling your old textbooks to underclassmen, or put them on half.com. Write killer product descriptions for your gently used Steve Maddens with the killer heels (ouch) and set them up on eBay or Craigslist. In fact, get rid of tons of stuff - from extra furniture to clothes you don’t wear – on Craigslist. You’d be surprised at the things people will buy if your prices are reasonable.

Re-purpose It:
This is one of my personal favorite options. If you’re crafty, save up bits of fabric and yarn and use them for gorgeous projects like the ones showcased every day on Etsy. If you can’t tell a spool of thread from a turkey leg, give your bits and pieces to your more talented friends who have been known to carry around duct-tape messenger bags and sew their own clothing. They’ll love you!

What other ideas do you guys have for pitching your stuff? Let’s hear ‘em!

A Warning: eBay is totally addictive!

A Warning: eBay is totally addictive! I have always loved thrift shopping, and eBay came along and totally enabled my obsession with hunting for the perfect dress/shoes/jeans/furniture in a way that probably isn’t 100% healthy.

Obviously, while clothes and jewelry are my personal area of expertise/weakness, they are just the tip of the eBay iceberg. I needed more memory for my computer recently, and I bought it on eBay for under $20. My boyfriend bought an icemaker for our freezer. If you need it, it’s probably on eBay, and you can probably save at least a few bucks off what you would pay elsewhere! Here are some tips to get you started:

Searching:

Make your search as specific as possible. If you’re looking for something in particular, say, Citizens of Humanity jeans, knowing both what size you wear in that particular brand, and some style names that you like will be very helpful. Entering as much as you can about colors, brands, models, sizes etc. will help get you search results that you’ll actually be interested in.

Browse the categories! eBay is remarkably well organized, so if you’re not looking for ideas rather than a specific item, start by clicking on a larger category, like Art or Musical Instruments, and you will be shepherded in a more and more detailed direction as you go along. Especially helpful if you’re not sure exactly what an item is called.

Listings:

Check the listing carefully! Look for both what is says, and what it does not say. Something that is “like vintage” or “like Gucci” is neither of those things, in reality. Clothing should always have lots of pictures. It’s important to know what to look for when thrift shopping (stitching, seams, tags, etc.,) so a good seller will have pictures of everything you’d look for if you were at a store.

Read the Fine Print. If you win a sweet pair of shoes for $15, but you end up paying $20 for shipping, it’s not as good a deal as you thought! Shipping costs should be listed with the item, depending on where it’s coming from, so make sure you take that into account when considering total price.

Check a seller’s feedback. Whenever a transaction occurs, both the buyer and the seller are supposed to leave feedback on the other’s profile. That way, delinquent shippers or payers are outed, and you know not to do business with them!

Know your measurements! Buying clothing online, especially vintage clothing, can be a crap-shoot, but if you know your measurements you are five steps ahead of the game. Since clothing sizes vary SO widely from brand to brand, and have changed so much over the years, it’s always best to go by measurements: bust, waist, hip, inseam, and even insole, for vintage shoes. This goes for ring sizes too.

Red Flags:

Not much information. Listings that don’t say much about the item can be a little suspect. Either things are being left out on purpose, or the seller is just inexperienced, which can be bad news as well. If you’re unclear about anything, you can always contact the lister, and if they don’t get back to you in a timely fashion, forget ‘em.

If It Seems Too Good to be True…it just might be. It’s not a rule, but it’s less than likely that you’ll find a genuine Marc Jacobs bag for $30. If it were real, someone who bought it for $1600 would be losing some serious cash in that exchange, so just make sure you look a little harder at deals that seem unrealistically good. You never know, you might be the lucky person that stumbles upon the real deal!

Bidding:

Auctions vs. Buy It Now: There are two kinds of eBay listings. Auctions let you bid on an item, and try and outbid the other folks that want that item. “Buy It Now” is where you just plain buy the item for a listed price, no negotiating. Some listings have both an auction and a buy it now option. If you’re absolutely dying for something, and the “buy it now” price is in your budget, go for it. Otherwise, place a bid, and try and keep your price as low as possible. It’s part of what makes eBay fun, anyway!

Maximum Bid: When you’re bidding, notice that number you are entering is actually your maximum bid. So think it over, and decide what it is you’re willing to pay, and enter that as your bid. Your actual bid will be 50 cents or $1 over the previous bid, and bidding will continue up in whatever that increment may be. eBay will keep automatically upping your bid, as necessary, until it reaches your max, so you don’t have to keep going back and bidding again if someone outbids you. If you’re lucky, no one else will be bidding that high, and you won’t get anywhere near the maximum bid you entered! Of course, since auctions have end times, you can always bid at the last second, to try and snag it from someone without pushing the bidding too high early on. It’s called sniping. All’s fair in love and eBay!

Poor Brit-Brit has to tighten security after death threats!

Remember the brand new car Lindsay Lohan bought last week? Well, today her assistant crashed it.

But just because you love ‘em doesn’t mean you know much about ‘em. That’s where we come in.

Every week we will be highlighting the best, coolest and shiniest in technology. Consider us your personal Geek Squad. And let us tell ya; with CC on your side, geek has never looked so chic.]

So it’s March. Time of leprechauns and half-nice weather. It’s also a time of sales. Tech sales. So here’s some sites to find some cool stuff for cheap. Because everyone loves cheap.

Outlet PC

So maybe you’re not quite ready to sit on your floor and build yourself and an awesome machine, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need stuff for you current comp. And I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but cables for your comp are EXPENSIVE and get lost every time you move. This site isn’t flashy but it does have all your basics on it for really cheap.

Newegg.com

Slightly prettier site with a much larger variety of things to shop. Not just PC, but everything tech. From XBox 360 products to new TVs to laptops, this site has it all. The prices are REALLY reasonable making that decision on whether or not to get that extra controller just that much easier. Not to mention the phones. So if you’re plan is coming up on it’s two years you can shop an upgrade from your house. Or you can check out if you can get a better deal by going elsewhere.

PropertyRoom.com

So you know you can get a car at the police auction but did you ever wonder what they did with the other stuff they seize? I always assumed that they just returned it. Nope – turns out they auction that off too. This is one of the websites that they use to dump it. It’s pretty hit or miss on the site but you can find a good deal if you’re diligent. Remember, like Ebay it’s a bidding site, so stick around to watch your purchase close.

Ebay.com

I’m sure you’ve all looked over this from one time or another, but maybe not for tech stuff. This site is a goldmine when it comes to random tech stuff. And with the buy now option you can assure that you’ll get what you want.

The weather may getting nice outside, but there are still those rainy Spring days coming. Stock up on supplies now!

Ask any girl what the worst thing her boyfriend/fiancée/husband could do to her, and the answer is probably going to be the same: cheat. To most women, cheating is the ultimate betrayal of trust, which is probably why, when they find out their man’s been unfaithful, so many women get angry and seek revenge.

Scary, serious revenge.

Famous stories of women getting revenge on their cheating partners have circulated in gossip and in the news for years: women have reportedly cut up their husband’s clothing, dumped all their husband’s belongings in the front yard, and even destroyed their cars (the subject of Carrie Underwood’s hit song “Before He Cheats,” the story of one woman getting revenge on her cheating man by smashing up his car with a Louisville Slugger®). Another story tells of the wife of a British radio-talk show host, who sold her husband’s $45,000 car on eBay for 90 cents after she heard him tell a woman on the air that he’d leave his wife for her. One woman even paid for a billboard ad advertising her husband’s infidelity (see picture above)!

Even some celebrities have sought revenge on their philandering lovers: Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes (formerly of the band TLC) set fire to her boyfriend’s house after discovering his infidelity, and comedian Terri Garr has admitted to smashing the windows of her boyfriend’s house in the middle of the night.

But this story is undoubtedly the worst of all: earlier this week, a woman in India, after discovering that her husband had been sneaking around on her, drugged him with sleeping pills. While he was sleeping, she cut off his “sausage” with a razorblade and threw it into the street, where a pack of wild dogs ate it for breakfast. Ouch. Guess she guaranteed he’ll never cheat again.

Or eat sausage.

What do you guys think? Is getting revenge on an unfaithful man right?

A while back, a friend called me and broke some news to me that has changed my life completely.

Cassie: Girrrrrrrrrlllllll, don’t hate me, but I gotta tell you about a website.

Me: Why would I hate you for telling me about a website? Is it porn?

Cassie: It’s craft porn.

Me: Craft porn?! What’s the url?

Cassie: www.etsy.com You’ll never get off of it. You’re gonna be hooked. But you’re gonna love it.

Two months later, I still can’t get off of etsy.com. It’s kind of like ebay, but there’s way cooler sh*t and no lame bidding. Artists and craft-sters from around the world put their hand-crafted items on etsy with a price. If you like something, you buy it.

Yes, it sounds like the same-old shopping website, but it is so much cooler. The stuff on there is home-made and all kinds of awesome.

From tote bags made from seat belts to mushroom shaped salt and pepper shakers, etsy is seriously everything a craft-lover could ever dream of. It’s like going to Arts & Craft fairs from around the world without getting off your lazy ass.

It is the perfect one-stop-online-shop for all of your gifting needs: everything is unique, lots of the stuff is super cheap (those mushroom shaped salt and pepper shakers were on there for 5 bucks!), and you get to discover new talent from around the world.

If you love the idea of personal and crafty gifts, but you’re too lazy or talentless to make your own, definitely scope out etsy. You are going to love <strike>me</strike> it!
