Being green ain’t easy. Recycling, environmentally friendly beauty products, eco clothing, you have to think about this shit. And in college when most of your brain cells are still trying to compensate from last nights drinking binge, thinking comes just about as easily as being eco conscience.
Even before the whole green movement, I discovered one of the easiest ways to help out the environment: reusable bags. The good news ladies, is that they are totally in right now! Not only can you help the earth while going on a beer run, you can be considered as chic and as green as they come.
Surely, even in the college towns, you didn’t miss Anya Hindmarch “Not a Plastic Bag” craze/controversy. Fashionistas were lining up for the $7 dollar version of the canvas tote, while they were being sold on EBay for upwards of $600 dollars. Now, international launches of the bags have been canceled in Southeast Asia because of their “concern for their customers safety.” Cuh-razy fashion folk, they’ll do anything to be in!
Despite the fact that Hindmarch’s website denies the accusations, a London paper reported that the bags were made in China using cheap labor laws and were neither fair-trade nor organic. Huh?
Personally, I like this one a lot better. Read More »

As if I needed any more trash in my life. Tabloids, receipts, old magazines; I’ve got the literal trash and figurative trash covered.
And if selling La Lohan’s coke binge car crash pieces on eBay (priced at 20 grand before being removed) wasn’t enough for the world, now there is a whole website devoted to the trash of the stars. The trash to first hit the market is our favorite jail bird, Paris.
Honestly, thank god. I knew my life was missing something essential.
The full list of one hundred and two items includes everything from prescription pill bottles, hair extensions, birth control packets, cigarette butts and empty envelopes (some from jail!).
At the moment only six items are up for sale, the most ludicrous being an empty can of gourmet dog food currently selling for over $15,000. And it still has three days left before bidding ends.
These, according the Hollywood StarTrash, are not even the items of “extreme personal nature” which will remain in the “StarTrash private vault.” So nice of you to show some discretion. Read More »

Last semester, I woke up one day and realized I was completely out of money. I guess going to the Ralph Lauren Outlet a weekend earlier had been therapeutic for my mind but not my wallet. What’s a girl to do?
Instead of freaking out and starting to dumpster dive, my anxiety mobilized me to act. I started by cleaning out my closet. I isolated the items that sat in there and gathered dust (which was nearly everything) and spent a day listing them on eBay. A week later, I had made three hundred bucks off of old clothes and handbags (and, tear tear, brand – new discount Ralph Lauren Oxford shirts). I took the stuff that didn’t sell on the net to a resale shop in my neighborhood and scored another $20.
The best part was that most of the things I sold I hadn’t bought in the first place (thanks mom!), so I accrued a maximum profit. I’m the farthest thing from a business major, but I know that’s pretty sweet.
So if you’re short on cash, ditch your material sentimentality and purge your closet. You’ll end up with more than just monetary rewards: ebaying my life ended up being more therapeutic than the discount shopping. After I had shipped away my things, I felt the weight of hundred pounds lifted from my shoulders. Out with the old and in with the money! Next stop: MBA.

I’ve always been kind of intimidated by eBay-type websites. I like to just make my purchases and go on my merry way — none of this bidding bullsh!t. But since I rarely shy away from making a buck (I need all the cash I can get), I decided to make an acception.
Chegg.com, “as in chicken and egg” (no idea, but it’s cute, right?), is not only easy to navigate, but it’s also designed just for college students to buy and sell unwanted belongings. You absolutely have to be a student to use the site, which means no sketchy, creepy old people will be allowed to sell their used underwear or whatever.
So in a desperate attempt to scrounge up some moola, I put a few older, monsterous textbooks on there and waited for someone on my campus to bite. And low and behold, I made about $80. So easy and I got someone else a sweet deal.
All you have to do is create a free account (it literally takes less than a minute), buy or sell and either get/give the item in person or settle the transaction via snail mail. I highly suggest checking it out.
