Glamour had listed their top six movie kisses of all time. And I have to say, I was a little disappointed.

The kisses they chose were certainly swoon worthy, but I didn’t think all of them deserved a top spot. And there were other kisses that were most definitely missing. Lots of kisses missing. Kisses that needed to be mentioned. So I selflessly spent hours and hours poring over YouTube video after YouTube video to compose this list for you, my top ten movie kisses of all time.

10. Jack and Rose, Titanic. Leo has come a long way since his days of freezing to death alongside a glacier, but I don’t think our generation will ever let him forget his days as a teen heart drop. This kiss, though not particularly impressive, sums up our teeny bopper days perfectly. It’s nostalgic and sweet and we’ll never let go.

9. Blane and Andie, Pretty in Pink. This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one Brat Pack shout out. And for me at least, it couldn’t be anything other than this movie. That final scene in the parking lot when Jack and Andie reunite at the senior prom after a huge fight just epitomizes everything I love and hate about teen angst and chick flicks. It’s cheesy and incredibly cliché but I would be lying if I said I didn’t wish something like that had happened at my high school prom.

8. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, Pride and Prejudice. Maybe it’s just the literature geek in me, but I find the kiss between Darcy and Elizabeth at the end of the 2007 adaption of Pride and Prejudice to be so romantic. It’s not particularly passionate or steamy, but it’s intimate all the same. It’s a kiss viewers have been waiting for throughout the entire movie. The buildup-from the angry rain arguments, to the subtle hand holding, to the forehead touching makes it totally worthy it.

7. Edward and Vivian, Pretty Woman. This one is here more for the dialogue that accompanies the kiss than the kiss itself, but I still felt like it needed to be mentioned. Richard Gere’s character has just climbed up a fire escape to get to Julia Roberts even though he’s desperately afraid of heights. He reaches Vivian and asks, “So what happens after her climbs up and rescues her?”  She says, “She rescues him right back.”  Then they kiss.

6. Edward and Bella, New Moon. I debated putting this one on here, really I did. Because there’s just so much “OMGz” drama that comes along with anything Twilight related. It reminds me of screaming teenage girls and Robert Pattinson’s hair, and Kristen Stewart’s inability to smile (and lots of articles I read in my feminism class last semester). But I put all of that aside, and I’m asking you to do the same. Because that kiss they shared at the end of New Moon, that was hot.

5. Lady and Tramp, Lady and the Tramp. I can never hear the lyrics to “That’s Amore” without thinking of these two. Just the sweetness and innocence of these two little dogs sharing meatballs and slurping on the same piece of spaghetti is too adorable for words. Cutest kiss ever.

4. Peter and Mary Jane, Spiderman. If it’s iconic enough for Seth and Summer to reenact on The OC, then its iconic enough to make this list. Upside down and in the rain, that kiss had every girl wanting to meet Toby McGuire in a dark alley.

3. Rhett and Scarlett, Gone With the Wind. Plastered on every movie poster ever made for this movie, this one is a classic. Against a bright red and orange sunset, Scarlett kisses Rhett just before he goes off to war. These two may not have a happy ending, but this kiss almost makes that worth it.

2. Fred and Holly, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I apologize to those of you who are not fans of Audrey, but this kiss just had to be here. It had to. Its Audrey and George, looking fabulous in their trench coats, as rain comes down around them and they scream about not belonging to anyone at all. Then, all of a sudden they’re professing their undying love for one another. And kissing. This is the stuff of romance, folks.

1. Noah and Allie, The Notebook. I tried to be objective when ranking these kisses. But before I even sat down to write this, I knew Noah and Allie were going to be my number one. When I think of movie kisses, this is what I think of.  In my opinion nothing can quite compare. I mean first off, it’s raining, and second of all they’re fighting, and third, these two have been pining away for each other for years.  All that pent up emotion, and anger and passion finally explode. In the best way possible. They just can’t be beat. Period. The end. Cue the hot sex.

I don’t know about you ladies, but Sixpence None the Richer’s Kiss Me is on repeat in my head right now. And I’m just going to go with it…and maybe head over to YouTube and check out some of those movie clips again.

I firmly believe that every article about the Twilight series should come with an author disclaimer (especially those found on the Internet). So here goes mine: I am not a Twilight fanatic. I read the first book back when it came out and enjoyed it. I read the first five pages of the second book and it bored me so much that I could not finish anymore of it. When the first movie came out, a few friends and I went to see it, but everyone in the theater was laughing because it was pretty corny.

I really wanted to see New Moon for two reasons: curiosity of what I didn’t know because I hadn’t read the book AND Taylor Lautner’s abs. I would also like to point out that no one would go see the movie with me so I dragged my now-boyfriend when we were in the just-friends stage to see it. I know, it’s a shock that he still wanted to be my boyfriend (at least he already knew about my obsession with Taylor Lautner’s bod).

There are really four main characters in Eclipse. You have Jacob, the wolf boy. Then there’s Edward Cullen, Mr. “Old School” Eternal Love. He claims to be a vampire, but I have yet to see any aversion to garlic or the Catholic Church, so I’m not convinced. Bella Swan is the gorgeous protagonist, also known as the girl who you would expect to be interesting, considering there are so many sexy men in love with her, but she falls short in that regard. By the way the wolf boy and the alleged vampire talk, it seems as though they are more in love with her “scent” than anything else. It’s pretty creepy stuff. The final main character is Kristen Stewart’s scene-stealing wig. Try not to notice it. I dare you.

This is the third movie in the series, so it’s about time for Bella and Edward to settle down. He wants to marry her. She wants to become a vampire. Jacob loves Bella and wants to protect her. Oh, and there’s some guy creating an army of vampires, presumably to come after Bella and the Cullens.

Ah, eternal love. Isn’t it such a lovely concept? Well, it’s at least one that a lot of fourteen-year-old girls have become obsessed with thanks to this franchise. I actually admire Bella in the opening scene when she reminds Edward that two out of three marriages end in divorce. Then, I remembered that her logic makes absolutely no sense because whether or not she marries Edward, she still wants to become a vampire and live happily ever after. Bella met Edward in high school and she is making the decision to be with him forever. She insists on changing herself to be more like him as well. Keep in mind that this girl has yet to even graduate high school, so that tells you how long they’ve been together.

Maybe we all want to believe that love can last forever, but I want to believe that there is something much more desirable than what Bella is choosing. And that’s life. No, I’m not referring to just having a heartbeat and breathing. I’m talking about life experiences. About five minutes of the film take place in Bella’s high school with her non-vampire “friends,” so it seems as though she has chosen Edward over high school experiences and genuine friendship. She has also chosen to eternally commit herself to the first guy that she’s fallen in love with. The scary thing is, Edward doesn’t seem to mind. He objects to her desire to become a vampire, because he doesn’t want to take away her life, but he never pushes her to experience. Her father, Charlie, encourages her to spend time with other friends, such as Jacob, but it’s a hopeless cause. If you had a month or two left to be a human, what would you do? Because Bella has chosen to stare longingly into her boyfriend’s eyes and not much else. Love is an amazing thing, but does she have no other interests? You would think that worldly Edward Cullen, who’s over one hundred years old, would know that there’s more to life and would encourage Bella to take advantage of what life has to offer her.

I’m not really that surprised that Bella has decided to skip out on new life experiences considering NO ONE IN ANY OF THE TWILIGHT MOVIES CAN HAVE AN INTERESTING CONVERSATION. I’m sorry, that’s harsh. But it’s true. If your boyfriend was born in 1901, wouldn’t you want to talk to him about cool stuff, like, “Hey, what was it like to experience two world wars, women’s suffrage, the civil rights movement, and see Audrey Hepburn movies in theaters?” Maybe I’m a history nerd, but I feel like that’s a better conversation starter than, “Let’s get married.” “Let’s not.” “Make me a vampire.” “No.”

The movie is better than the first two. I actually think that Kristen Stewart is becoming a better actress (hopefully her wig will catch up one day). Luckily, Taylor Lautner spends a lot of the movie shirtless, which definitely got me through some boredom and frustration. And I’m still holding out hope that in the next movie, Bella will decide to backpack across Europe, try to sail around the world, adopt a puppy, get a hobby, or maybe even make some friends before she gives up her life for the first guy she fell in love with.

We all remember it: flipping violently through the book, pressing our nose against the hinge during the steamy tent scene while Jacob spooned with Bella and kept her warm. Gripping the pages while Edward and Bella lay in the giant bed he bought her, trying not to do the dirty out of fear that Edward would sink his fang teeth into the nape of her neck. . .

I’m going to need a moment….

Let’s face it: vampires versus werewolves might be the best thing that happened to pop culture since Bret Michaels’ Tour Bus and Facebook poking. And tonight this showdown comes to the forefront once again.

Today, for the third time, Twilight fans are camping outside of movie premiers, gripping their pre-purchased tickets, and kissing their Jacob Black posters before they prance to the premiere of Eclipse.  Eclipse is the third (and best, in my opinion) installment of the Twilight saga. Why is Eclipse the best portion of the saga? Two words: vampires vs. werewolves. Want more? Edward Cullen vs. Jacob Black.

It’s the epic battle between vampires and werewolves that has us wondering once again: who reigns supreme? Is it Jacob or Edward? We’re going to break it all down for you here, then you tell us who comes out on top.

Hotness:
We’ve got Jacob’s luscious washboard abs paired with a perfected tan versus Edward’s sparkling ashen skin under a ray of sunshine.

Jacob: Pretty abs would mean periodic scenes which take place unclothed, in the rain.
Edward: Since sparkling in the sunshine would risk exposing his identity as a vampire, Eddie provides periodic scenes which take place in dark, mysterious nooks (i.e. forests, bedrooms, meadows).

Don’t forget Jacob’s body temperature is a sizzling 110 degrees, while Edward sits in a temperature equal to a cold pre-historic stone rock. Would you rather be boiling in bed next to Jacob or freezing your precious buns off cuddling up to the rock-wall that is Edward Cullen?

Transportation:
It’s Jacob’s saucy red motorcycle versus Edward’s shiny silver Volvo S60 R.

I couldn’t help but let this remind of of a comparison between Justin Bobby and Ryan Cabrera. Duh, Justin Bobby would be wheeling around a juiced motorcycle and Mr. Chia-Pet-Head, Ryan Cabrera would handle his noble steed, Volvo. Then, I got grossed out and had to move on. Are you more of a ride-like-the-wind sorta gal, or a fancy-car-that-goes-fast kinda lady?

Age:
While Jacob basks in a ripe age of 17, Edward relaxes within a wise age of 104… going on 17.

Age always depends on the person. For me, I try to date someone older by give or take five years. But, if 104 years old is your style and the dude looks a healthy age of 17, by all means, get it girl.

Special Powers:
Jacob’s imprinting skills versus Edward’s ability to hear others thoughts and never sleep.

In case you’re not a teenie-bopper-going-on-22 like myself, you may not know what ‘imprinting’ is. Let me define: Imprinting is behavioral phenomenon among shapeshifters where a shapeshifter finds his or her soul mate [Shapeshifter: See Werewolf]. In life down on earth, ducks are also known to imprint. Call me crazy, but Jacob can imprint his furry werewolf arse on  me any day. And Edward? He never sleeps and can hear everything I’m thinking? Seems a little creepy to me. Just sayin’.

Personality:
Jacob engulfs a sweet demeanor as fluffy as his werewolf coat and Edward’s romantic one-liners are as sharp and tantalizing as his fang vampire teeth.

Jacob is always super sweet to Bella. After pronouncing his love for her he exclaimed, “I’m just here to be your friend. Your best friend, one last time.” Cue the syrupy awwws. Sweet right? But don’t worry, since Edward was born in 1918, he’s full of beautiful, poetic verse as well. “I prefer brunettes.” Edward Cullen, everybody!

Alright, we’ve laid it out for you, now it’s time for you to decide: vampires or werewolves?

We all place a large emphasis on our dorm room decor. And we should; how we live says a lot about us to everyone who passes through. And what’s sending the biggest message? The poster. People can learn a lot about you from what you hang on the wall and college students know it, which explains the abundance of poster sales that invade the student center every season.

Are you a refined pearl-wearing girl like Audrey, or super stoner like the Bob Marley?
Maybe the ever-classic Animal House poster is more your style (if your style includes a beer bong and five year plan).

Pay attention and you’ll notice the same rotation of prints appearing on dorm doors and scuffed white walls all over campus.  What?  You thought that motivational poster was unique?  Yeah, good luck defining your undergrad identity one Abbey Road poster at a time…

You wanna stand out this Fall? Avoid hanging one of these 10 cliche posters over your bunk bed.

Basically, “Twilight & History” delves DEEP into all the history behind the books, featuring short essays by different historians. I’m a history buff and former history major and even I learned a lot from this one. One essay explains why Bella thinks Edward acts so old-fashioned, with a whole comparison to Jane Austen! Another shows how the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob mimics struggles the real Quileute nation had in obtaining their treaty (I don’t think Stephanie Meyer did this on purpose, but it totally fits).

It’s a complete brain-overload of information and nerds (like myself) will just lap this stuff up. Seriously, after reading this book, I think universities should start offering a Twilight history course; the information and potential are absolutely there and enrollment would be through the roof!

My favorite essays are the ones about each Cullen’s family history. They range from discussing Jasper’s experience in the Civil War, to Emmett’s Appalachian Mountain roots and Carlisle’s exposure to Puritan witch-hunts. These essays are beyond interesting and actually show you the depth behind a flighty series like Twilight. The writing is exceptional, as most of these people have an extensive background in history. The mix of essays is also nice; it’s not at all like reading a textbook, because each piece is so unique and offers new information.

If you’re an uber-geek looking for your educational fix now that school has let out, or a doubter of Twilight, look no further than “Twilight & History.” It’s a total nerdy thrill ride and definitely increases your appreciation for the series.

If we’ve learned anything from this whole Tiger Woods debacle, it’s that some women simply can’t resist the glory of sleeping with a celebrity. And who can really blame them? You put Chase Crawford in front of me and there’s no telling what I would do in order to get him undressed and into my bed. And if it takes heavy drugs and a blindfold, so be it.

In fact, I can say that for a lot of celebrities. A girl can dream, can’t she?

But the fantasy doesn’t extend to all of Hollywood. There are a few celebs that I would rather not have anywhere in or around my lady parts. For example:

John Mayer:
This was a tough one for me because I’m a sucker for anyone who can serenade me – especially if it’s in a limo on the way to a Hollywood party – but there are a few other factors that I had to take into consideration. For example, let’s all say it together now: MAN-WHORE. John Mayer’s dating track record reads like a phonebook, and that’s simply not promising for our future together. And maybe I could look past that for a night of passion, but I simply cannot look past the faces he makes while on stage. If he looks like this while singing, I shutter to think what he looks like in bed.

Alex Rodriguez:
Because, really, is he that hot? I feel like I’ve been misled. I don’t know what everyone else sees, because very time I look at his picture, I just feel like there’s something not right there. And honestly, that damn Yankee has slept with every female in NYC. Plus, if the rumors are true and he and Kate Hudson are through, well he is just an idiot and I don’t mess with idiots.

Robert Pattinson:
I’d be seated on a throne of lies if I told you I wouldn’t happily fall into bed with Edward Cullen. But Robert Pattinson, on the other hand, just doesn’t do it for me. His greasy locks are always standing at great heights, which leads me to believe he showers less than twice a week. And I’d like to take him to a tanning bed, just once or twice, to give him a little glow. Or skin pigment at all. He’s nearly translucent at this point and pasty isn’t a good look on him.

Chris Brown:
R.I.P. Chris Brown’s sex life. Assault pretty much put the nail in the coffin of that guy’s life. It’s too bad, too. I used to imagine what our wedding would be like. He was going to sing “With You” to me at the reception, now I just want to punch him in the genitals.

Justin Bieber:
My best guess says that this 15-year-old pop star is still holding on to his precious V-card. And as awesome as it would to take a celebrity’s virginity, I’m not into statutory rape. I’m not that fame-hungry.

WTF? So you can sleep with Edward??

When I was waiting outside of the Scholastic store in Soho to buy the 7^th Harry Potter book, I saw a reporter from the New York Post who was walking up and down the massive line and interviewing people for a story about the book’s release. I overheard him speaking with one guy who had a lightning bolt scar on his head.

I know what you’re thinking—“All right, it’s kind of odd that an adult man would dress up for the release of a kid’s book, but it’s not totally unheard of. That dude probably wasn’t any weirder than any of the other people in the line.”

Wrong. This nutbar didn’t just draw a lightning bolt on his forehead—as he told the reporter, he had literally carved the scar into his skin with a razor blade.

And to make matters worse, I was ahead of him in line. Yes, I had arrived at the bookstore before the psycho.

So needless to say, I know a thing or two about what happens when fandom gets extreme. Even so, Twihards—people who are obsessed with the Twilight books and movies—take things a step beyond anything I’ve ever seen before. As of Wednesday, at least 2,100 screenings of New Moon, the second movie in the series, were sold out—and those are only the showings measured by MovieTickets.com. There’s also a ton of Twilight merchandise available all over the web, stuff that ranges from normal (t-shirts, posters) to full-on batsh*t crazy (A shower curtain screen-printed with a giant picture of Robert Pattinson’s face. A life size vinyl wall decal of Edward Cullen’s silhouette, accented by the words “Be Safe.” A pair of underwear that’s illustrated with the sexy vamp’s face—inside the crotch).

io9 has a pretty awesome and comprehensive list of these wacky products. But most of the stuff they found comes from Etsy, which means that it’s specially made by individual craftspeople. I find it even more interesting that Hot Topic, the main source for all things Twilight, has almost 200 Twilight-related products for sale on its website. You can buy a duvet cover with Edward’s face on it, or body shimmer designed to make you look just as sparkly as your favorite vampires. You can buy a Twilight New Moon Vampire Girl Cuff, a Volturi Crest necklace, an Edward Charm bracelet (tagline: “Let Edward be the charms around your wrist”), and a Choose Musical Jewelry Box, which plays “Bella’s Lullaby” (whatever that is) and features “a rotating Cullen crest/Wolf tattoo emblem,” to store them in. There’s even Twilight-brand band-aids, for Anne Rice’s sake.

I know that this isn’t exactly an original question, but I have to ask it anyway—what is it about Twilight that makes people go so bonkers that they would actually buy any of this crap? Wouldn’t even superfans be embarrassed to go out in public with an Edward umbrella? Why is Twilight so good at warping people’s—or, to be more specific, girls’—minds and convincing them to spend their money on this kind of garbage? Or that it’s OK to have some guy’s face in the crotch of your undies?!

I get a seriously creepy vibe from all of these products, which matches the feeling I got when I read “Twilight” in an attempt to understand why it’s so popular. I don’t think I’ll ever really get why a story about a girl and the menacing, much-older guy who stalks her is so big. At least Harry Potter has a sense of humor.

Twihard

When I read the first, crisp page of Twilight, I became a Twihard. Now, don’t get the wrong idea. I don’t think I’m a vampire, nor do I think I’m a clumsy, modern damsel in distress who will be rescued by a strong, fanged man. Okay, the clumsy part is true, but I digress.

I read all four Twilight books within two weeks, an amazing feat considering it was during my first week of classes freshman year. When the first movie came out, my roommates and I pre-ordered our tickets and counted down the days until its release. We made t-shirts (sad but true) and drove an hour to the theater, making sure to leave early enough to get there at least two hours before the previews started to get optimal seating. The second the movie started, the theater packed with girls went silent. Until Edward appeared on screen and screams and “Woooohs!” ensued (with yours truly screaming the loudest). It was awesome.

I now own the special edition DVD and watch it all the time, but as much as I can quote the movie and tell you every last thing about it, I am WAY more excited for New Moon. The director is better, the effects are better, Robert Pattinson is still in it… Not to mention, Taylor Lautner is a god. (I will cut Taylor Swift if they officially come out with their secret romance.) I bought my tickets for New Moon - one for me and my boyfriend who so graciously is accepting my command that he go -  in September. Yes, September.

When I found out the release date, I found every sneak peek clip I could get my Twihard hands on. I watched interviews of the cast, and I watched the all of the behind the scenes stuff, like how they did the wolf scenes. I read every article in every magazine. I even ordered the “Bella” jacket (in white not blue – I’m not that crazy) and downloaded a countdown clock that’s been ticking away on my desktop as I Google anything and everything related to the movie.

Yeah, it all seems a little borderline needs-to-be-institutionalized, but I don’t care. I’m a Twihard and damn proud of it.

Thankfully, the wait is nearly over. In just over 48 hours I’ll be witnessing the epic romance of Bella and Edward…and Jacob… once again. Oh, and little Dakota Fanning as evil vampiress, Jane! I’ve got my tickets and Bella jacket laid out, and my t-shirt made. I’ve even found the time in my packed schedule to re-read the book. I just have to get through two more days of classes (where I will probably spend my time reading movie reviews on my laptop/staring at the countdown clock) and then I’ll officially be ready to go. Even though I’ve been mentally ready for months now.

…Oh, and in case you’re wondering, yes, I’ve already started my quest for all things Eclipse, set for release June 10, 2010! You better believe I’ll have those babies pre-ordered months ahead as well.

I bought “The Night Watch” a while ago, but had yet to pick it up. I remember very clearly seeing it at the bookstore and being intrigued by the critical acclaim on the front. “Harry Potter in Gorky Park” is what it said, which totally hooked me (Gorky Park is a famous amusement park in Moscow, Russia and I REALLY feel compelled by Russia for some odd reason….). Anyways, back to the book.

The story revolves around Anton. In Anton’s Moscow, there is a fight going on between Good and Evil that the humans don’t even see. Only the Others see, special beings who choose to fight for either the Light or the Dark. Anton, our protagonist, is of course of the Light and also a member of the Night Watch. He patrols the streets and subways of Moscow, protecting humans from the agents of the Night (vampires, supernatural beings, etc). I don’t know about you, but that totally reminds me of the opening fight scene in the subway platform from “Underworld,” which is SO badass. Okay, seriously, back to the book.

The book is written in a straightforward fashion, not wasting time on unnecessary description. It moves at a fast pace and doesn’t hold back. The characters are well-written and believable and, as I said, a bit stronger and darker than those of the popular vampire series. It’s so odd to read about a violent vampire attack instead of, you know, Bill sucking on Sookie when they are making love, or the Cullen’s feasting on animal blood (I know, that sounded a bit sadistic, but I swear that it’s a just a nice change!). I found this one to be very refreshing and totally got me in the mood for some ghoulish fun this Halloween!

I am definitely a fan of supernatural and horror novels and I can’t say whether or not someone who was impartial to them would enjoy “The Night Watch.” However, if you’re finding “Twilight” and the Sookie Stackhouse novels a bit too “nice,” then maybe it is time to come to the dark side of “The Night Watch”….
