1. Justin Timerlake hosting: JT on Saturday Night Live is the best thing since sliced bread. He wasn’t even in The Lonely Island performance! Yeah he won the Emmy for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, but I was expecting him to at least be there. JT was no where to be found. I think Jane Lynch was good, though I’d rather her played the host role as Sue Sylvester instead. You hear that Emmy Academy? JT for 2012 host!

2. Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher throw down: While the MaSheen kept it classy like San Diego, it would have been pretty awesome to see a fight between him and Ashton instead of Jimmy Fallon vs. Jimmy Kimmel. Charlie is trying to clean up his act, but a shirtless Michael Kelso fighting over tiger blood would have been much appreciated.

3. Modern Family wouldn’t have won every.single.thing: I love Modern Family, it’s hilarious. But it was one of those situations where you start to hate that movie that wins all of the Oscars. Same thing. I’m not saying they didn’t deserve their awards, but I wanted to see some other shows get credit where it’s due as well.

4. Kate Winslet would have kissed everyone: I don’t think anyone was shocked when Kate kissed Mildred Pierce costar, Guy Pearce, since she always kisses those in her vicinity. How awesome would it have been for her to go all Britney and Madonna and plant one on Claire Danes and Hugh Laurie?

5. Steve Carrell would have finally won: I can’t get over the fact that Steve Carrell didn’t win an Emmy after his final season on The Office. I’m really bitter about it. He’s been nominated every year, and the man is beyond deserving as I’m pretty sure he actually is Michael Scott in real life.

6. The Lonely Island would replace The Emmytunes: I can’t tell you how much I obsess over Zachary Levi and Colbie Smulders, but the Emmytunes were awkward and totes unnecessary. I really wasn’t sure of the purpose of that song group, but I know if The Lonely Island were singing during those weird moments in the show it would have actually been funny.

7. Entourage would have at least been nominated for something: Where was love for Vince, Drama, Turtle, E, and Ari? With it being the year of their last season, I expected one nomination. Sure, the boys will be back for the movie soon, but this was the end! I loved seeing them walk on stage in true Entourage fashion, though I would have rather them all been holding shiny gold trophies.

8. The Colbert Report would have upset The Daily Show: Do I watch both of these in place of real news? Absolutely. The Daily Show always wins, and if you couldn’t tell it was a running joke throughout the awards. How great would it have been if The Colbert Report actually took a win from The Daily Show? Beyond amazing.

9. There would have been more pageantry: One of my favorite parts of the night was when all of our favorite funny ladies mocked pageants and sauntered on stage, waiting for their crowning moment. Impromptu silliness like that is what separates the Emmys from other awards shows. The Emmys are supposed to be fun and outrageous, which is why that bit was so funny.

10. Christina Hendricks boobs would have been even bigger: Seriously girlfriend, you’re foxy. But I feel like you’re going to crumble under the weight of your ta-tas.

We were all bummed when Fox announced way back in 2006 that we would no longer see the ridiculous antics of the Bluth family in Arrested Development because apparently no one understood their humor or something. I mean, the family runs a banana stand. Do you even need me to tell you that’s funny? Also, Michael Cera was chubby then, and it was ridiculously cute to watch him flirt with his cousin.

Anyway, there’s been a lot of talk recently (and apparently the rumors are true this time) about an Arrested Development film in the works. Seeing as this could possibly be the best idea I have ever heard, I’m pretty pissed that I didn’t come up with it myself. So that got me thinking, what are some other TV shows that would do great on the big screen?

Spring time is officially here in Austin, TX, and with that comes South by Southwest, only the biggest music/movie/tech conference ever. I may not have a badge, but I do have a massive schedule of free parties and concerts for the next 7 days. And that includes a free show from one of my favorite bands, Matt and Kim!

So this week I figured I’d spread the joy and share my love of these two with their second (and my personal favorite) album, Grand.

About the Band:
Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino have been rocking out since 2004, with Matt on keyboards and Kim on drums. They have a DIY attitude towards their music and do just about everything when it comes to putting out their albums. If they sound familiar, it’s because they’ve been featured on Community, Entourage, and several commercials.

Why You Should Listen to It:
If this album doesn’t get you pumped for spring break, well then I don’t know what will. This album makes me want to drive with the windows rolled down with my Ray-Bans on and have a mini-jam session in traffic. The beats are awesome (rock on, Kim!), the sound is exhilarating, and the album as a whole is pretty dang sweet.

You know that scene in Get Him To The Greek when Aaron’s girlfriend says something to the effect of, “Omg I can’t wait to watch like 100 hours of Gossip Girl”? I laughed hysterically (It’s funny cuz it’s true!). David did not (for the same reason).

I don’t know about you guys, but when I get home after a long day of interning, working, and gymming, all I want to do is eat dinner and zone out to one of the thousands of Real Housewives or Say Yes to the Dress episodes I have DVR’ed. Unfortunately, my live-in boyfriend isn’t on the same page. Especially now that it’s baseball season.

Without our usual primetime lineup to veg out to (If you’re an avid CC reader you’ll know about my unerring obsession with Comedy Night Done Right), the pickings have been slim for couple-friendly shows.

Until Now. Enter this summer’s surefire couple-pleasing shows. Read on, DVR and get some popcorn ready.

Last Comic Standing: David and I love this show because it’s (obviously) hilarious. But we love this show even more because Craig Robinson is the host. He’s charmingly side-splitting, and I personally think he’s kinda sexy. Disturbingly enough, David agrees. Anyways, the comedians are either really funny or funny because they don’t know how bad they are. And in either instance, the celebrity judges Greg Giraldo, Natasha Leggero (Chelsea Lately!) and Andy Kindler will crack you up. I’m soo happy this show is back, because girl or guy, who doesn’t love to laugh?

Lie to Me: The eccentric Dr. Lightman is back! This show is 65% Criminal Minds + 20% House + 15% Castle…and the main character is British. Besides the fact that after watching you’ll enjoy talking to each other with distinctive accents for the remainder of the evening (and you’ll say things like “the remainder of the evening”), Dr. Lightman (Cal Roth) is seriously badass. Basically he and his team of uber-psychologists read body language to catch bad guys. Realistic? No. Awesome? Yes.

TrueBlood: The Vampire craze goes coed with Eric, Bill and Sookeh. This weekly drama is a satiating hour long (but the end still comes way too soon every Sunday). It’s got blood and guts galore for him, along with seriously sick fight scenes. For the ladies, it’s got twisted, passionate love stories, Southern gentlemen vampires from a century or two ago, and Alexander Skarsgard. The sex scenes will spark both of your imaginations, and strong, sexy and feisty Sookie is a heroine guys and girls can root for. Plus, HBO has to put all of their parental control warnings (SDVM) on every episode, so you know it’s gonna be good.

Top Chef: There are 3 reasons why Top Chef just might be the ultimate couples’ show. 1. Incredible Food 2. Crazy characters 3. Padma and Tom (I don’t know what it is about that shiny bald head but Colicchio is one smooth, badass mofo). Every season David and I get seriously pumped for Top Chef…like we countdown the announcement of where the new season will be held and set the DVR to record the next episode a week in advance. It’s so much fun to pick our favorites – and we’ve gotten pretty good at it! I picked Angelo, he picked Kenny, and after you watch this season, you’ll know why. It’s a great way to have fun competition with your guy while expanding your vocabulary (seriously, now I know what brunois means). Plus, you can borrow their challenge ideas for a sweet date night. David has accepted my challenge to a cook off, and trust me, once we’re done with Top Chef South Florida, I’ll tell you lovely readers all about it!

There are so many shows about to premiere this summer that I know David and I will be able to agree on (Hello Entourage, Wipeout and Mad Men). How about you guys? What will you and your boyfriends be watching this summer?

Since I tend to write (and speak) about controversial topics, I know what it’s like not to be universally liked.  I suppose that’s what will happen when you publicly hate on flip-flops.  However, I don’t think I could ever sink to the level it takes to be disliked in Hollywood.  I mean, they like everyone there (see: Perez Hilton).  Except, of course, those select few that are so hard to work with and so up their own butts that it’s impossible to like them.

Naturally, that’s what will concern us for this week’s edition of the showdown.

Everyone has heard Christian Bale’s ridiculous outburst on the set of Terminator.  As a  method actor, he can get pretty intense.  I actually respect the lengths he goes through to get into character.  However, I’m pretty sure other actors have managed to get into character without distancing themselves from the cast and crew and blowing up any time someone distracts them.  Except maybe Jeremy Piven.  He’s not exactly a method actor, but he is arrogant and well on his way to being that creepy older guy at Hollywood parties.  It’s hard to compare these two actors, seeing how they operate in two completely separate spheres, but their shared bad reputations require some comments.

Which one is more self-absorbed?  Who pisses off Hollywood the most?

Fame Whorishness
Christian Bale knows when to make himself visible in the media.  After his rage rant to the cinematographer on Terminator, he waited a good period of time before releasing an apology, thus securing him a place in the 24-hour news cycle for another week.  Thank goodness – if I didn’t have some Christian Bale gossip or picture to gawk over, I don’t know what I’d do with my time.

Jeremy Piven will do anything for exposure.  He’s even signed on to host an episode of WWE’s Monday Night Raw.  He’ll pose for whatever camera is pointed at him and gives major ‘tude at every possible opportunity.  But…why?  He’s not exceptionally talented, he hasn’t won piles of major awards, and he hasn’t been in anything particularly critically acclaimed (not that any of those things are an excuse for attitude or fame whorishness).  Btw, Entourage so doesn’t count.

Point:  Jeremy Piven. Unlike Mr. Bale, Jeremy Piven has nothing really impressive on which to build his arrogance.

Love Life
Christian Bale has been married for almost 10 years.  Surprised? Me too, but only because he’s so tight-lipped about his personal life.  Christian’s definitely got that mysterious vibe, so I always thought there was a lot more going on there than appeared on the surface.  Apparently there isn’t.  Laaaaaame.

Jeremy Piven is a veritable man whore.  He’s rumored to be dating several different women (depending on the website you read), the most recent being a college-dropout bottle waitress he met at Britney Spears’ birthday party.  His move to snag the pretty lady? Mass texts to all the numbers he gathered that night saying to come and get him.  Classy, my friend.

Point: Jeremy Piven. Gross, dude…just gross.

Diva Stock
Christian Bale is a method actor…and a really intense one, at that.  Therefore, he’s a man with high demands on and off the set.  We’ve all heard what happens when someone walks into his line of sight.  What about if someone gave him the wrong food or spoke to him in the wrong accent? Who knows how many audio recordings of diva-esque outbursts there are of Christian freaking out…

Jeremy Piven thinks he is God’s gift to acting.  And women.  But mostly acting.  Rumor has it that he shows up to magazine photo shoots and will throw around his celebrity status for a while before he gets down to anything close to modeling.  No, Jeremy Piven, you are not Brad Pitt.  Or anyone of A-list status.  Check yourself, homie.

Point: Christian Bale. Are you professional??

Talent/Career
Christian Bale has had a long career of successful movies.  He plays one of the most beloved comic book characters and conveys each character with the utmost authenticity.  However, he always seems a bit cold and disconnected from Hollywood.  That may be because of his posh English accent or his inability to prepare for a role without going completely psycho.  Either way, it might be better if he stays the hell away from those Hollywood brats.

Jeremy Piven stars in the douchiest show of the century (and plays the douchiest character).  There’s no doubt he works hard, having appeared in movies, TV shows, and plays.  However, how many movies of his can you name? That’s what I thought.  And his most recent theater stint was a complete flop because he dropped out after discovering he had mercury poisoning and had to convalesce in Bangkok.  Suuuure, Jeremy.

Point: Jeremy Piven. For as hard as he says he works, I’m not really seeing much of him anywhere…

Celebretard Prize Goes To: Jeremy Piven. Best stick with Entourage.  No one seems to  remember any of your other roles, anyway.

Seeing these guys on screen makes my heart hurt, because I know deep down that never in my life will I have the chance to meet them, let alone see them in the buff.

But now I’m realizing that maybe I don’t want to. And maybe those boys aren’t quite as perfect as I once thought. In fact, they’re actually kinda gross.

Hairy asses? Pit stains? Digging for gold (in both nose and anus)? Sure, Gerard Butler is hot, but even he can’t make a booger look cute. And I don’t even want to think about running my hands through Grenier’s hair…down there.

Ew.

Actually, considering the amount of chilren that pee in that place, this is a whole lot better.

Secret Life of the American Teenager

The Secret Life is back, baby!! When the season ended, Amy delivered baby John, Ashley moved in with her dad, Grace + Jack = 4-ever, and Adrian ended up alone.  Season Two brings more baby mama drama for Amy, and SOMEONE WILL DIE! (Duh duh duuuuuh.)

Army Wives

Think being a soldier in the army is hard? It is. But the Army Wives have their own troubles: falling out of love with their husbands stationed in Iraq, starting a career, kissing a doctor (boss), getting a motorcycle, sending their sons off to war, having an affair… it’s a rough time!! And that was only one army wife.  This circle of women is tough! They fight off stalkers, tend to husbands with PTSD, deal with the death of family members, and battle the vicious tongues of the other prying wives. This show is incredibly moving and drama-rific; perfect for a summer night.

Nurse Jackie
In Progress

Oh yeahhh! Edie Falco is back on the tube. Unfortunately, she is no longer Carmela Soprano.  Instead she plays Jackie O’Hurley, an emergency room nurse in New York City.  Jackie is brilliant, sarcastic and witty, but super flawed and abuses meds to get through the days.  I smell drama.

(PS. For those looking for a Twilight fix, Peter Facinelli plays a doctor on the show! Hotness.)

Entourage
July 12

Maybe you’ve got a Soft spot for E, a secret crush on Turtle, hots for Drama, totally wanna eff Vince. Or maybe you love ‘em all. (Sigh.) Either way, they are comin’ back in a big way and bringing some hot friends along with em. In Entourage’s sixth season, expect cameos by teen heartthrob Zac Efron, Kate Mara (E’s new secretary) and more.  Let’s just hope things turn up for Vince… and he doesn’t lose (CollegeCandy’s fave) Ari to the other side of Hollywood.

NYC Prep
June 23

Gossip Girl’s season just ended but never fear – there is a replacement. Albeit, a watered down replacement sans the Blair-Chuck drama and soothing voice of an anonymous tell-all. NYC Prep is a reality show (yes, another one) that stalks the “elite teens” of New York City and gives us glimpses of their (totally absurd, puke-in-your-mouth) drama.  Yes, it’s embarrassing to be excited for this, but we won’t tell if you won’t.

Jon and Kate plus Eight

Jon and Kate are taking care of their eight kids and struggling with their marriage. With the tabloids showcasing Jon’s alleged affair with a 23-year-old,  his family speaking out against the supposed child exploitation, and  the humane society is after Jon for animal abuse – this show just got higher on my radar.

True Blood
June 14

If you didn’t watch this show last season, you better start. Just be prepared for some serious vampire sexy time (this is most definitely not Twilight).  True Blood promises a lot more nudity and violence this season and yes, just as much romance.  Rumor has it that Evan Rachel Wood (known for Across the Universe, Marilyn Manson’s ex-gf, Thirteen) will be in Season 2 as a powerful, vampire Queen.

America’s Got Talent

Project Runway is finally back and even if it’s now on Lifetime, it’s still gonna be good.  It’s been far too long since we’ve had our Tim Gunn/Heidi Klum/Michael Kors fix, so we’re trying to make it work as we count down the days to the premiere.
