Act Like a Kiddie This Summer!

pplgl009

So far this summer, I’ve been having the constant desire to re-live childhood summer times, a.k.a hopping in my DeLorean and gunning it to 1999.  The days when I was 9 years old and the world was mine.  The days when the only thing I had to worry about trying not to hurt myself when I was Skippin’ It outside all day.  The days when I was bumpin’ “If You Steal My Sunshine” and getting a perfect tan from swimming all day at camp. Those last moments of childhood where you could run around naked without feeling an ounce of self-consciousnes (knowing next summer you might be gettin’ some new curves).

10 years later, there are so many questions.  What will my major be?  Do I have enough hours at work?  Do I need to take summer classes? Where da party at? When’s the next sunny day for tanning? Does he want a relationship or a hook-up? Did I text too much this month? Should I get that new iPod?  It obviously doesn’t get easier.

Preeeeeetttyyy sure I wasn’t asking myself those questions when I was a kid.  So I say, what the hell? Let’s worry less and bring more pre-pubescent nostalgia back into our summer lives with some fun old-school pastimes: Read More »

Eating Disorders Can Be Beaten: Tips for Helping a Friend in Need

42-177300451.jpgA recent poll on CollegeCandy showed that many of us know people in our lives who are suffering from an Eating Disorder. Not only did those results remind me of a very sad truth for our demographic, but they also made me realize that the only way to change that truth is to provide people with the tools necessary to help a friend in need.

I was anorexic and then bulimic for about two years before ultimately recovering. I have also had a few friends go down the Eating Disorder path, so I feel like I have been on both sides of the predicament and truly understand the best methods for reaching out to someone who is suffering from this brutal and debilitating disease.

The most important method for helping people help their friends is awareness, so first let me dispel some E.D myths. Read More »

Hangover Chronicles 3: 5 Worst Places to Be the Morning After

hungover.jpgBeing hungover generally sucks, lets face it. The only place I want to be (and I’m sure this goes for you as well) is in bed, with the blinds closed, watching cheesy made for TV movies and eating my favorite hangover foods.

Unfortunately, my life is not very conducive to being hungover, and forces me to inevitably be anywhere but in bed on those days when I swear off drinking for good. If you’ve ever been hungover, chances are you’ve been forced to be somewhere you absolutely did not want to be at the time. I present the short list of the worst places to be while hungover. Quickie: Tuesday’s Sweet Escape

So it’s Tuesday. I mean, what the hell is Tuesday? It’s better than Monday, obvs, but it’s certainly less fun than Thursday, and nowhere near the euphoria of Friday.

If you’re like me, and need a little something to get you through these looong, dreary January days, and that little something often means sugar of some kind, then by all means, keep reading.

Because I think I’ve just found the best sweetstuff recipe EVER.

No sh*t. It just doesn’t get any better than Frappucino flavored CUPCAKES (!!!)

What’s Your Secret?

postsecretWhenever I’m having a down day I tend to wallow in my own self pity.

Whether it be the choices I have made, the cards I have been dealt or the things I have seen, I don’t want to escape it. I want to embrace it; by listening to sad songs or reading sad stories.

On these days it is like nothing is better than feeling sorry for myself.

And the only way to get out of it – I have found – is to check in with other people in the world to remind myself that my life isn’t so bad…and that I am quite fucking lucky.

The best place to do this when OC Mix 1 just isn’t cutting it? Postsecret.com.

Solmaaz, another CC writer, has mentioned Postsecret before. Unlike my fellow CC’er, however, I don’t watch this site as some sort of guilty pleasure; rather, I watch it as a reminder of the very real things very real people deal with every day. Read More »
