As I was going through the mascara aisle at my local Rite Aid, I saw the same old blacks, dark blacks, super black blacks, and midnight blacks that I usually set my big green eyes on. Then I stumbled upon green mascara for green eyes! I thought it was a little strange, but I was intrigued so I tried it out.
And take my word for it: this mascara is wonderful!
Mascara should bring attention to your eyes and bring out the color. For many of us, though – especially those of us with lighter eyes – black mascara doesn’t do that. Sure, swiping some ultra black onto those lashes makes your eyes look better, but it doesn’t make that color pop. And why wouldn’t you want those bright blues to pop?!
Well, this mascara does that; it highlights your eye color and your eyes. It’s brilliant and I just had to share! Read More »

It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally here: the smokey eye!
You’ve seen it on just about every red carpet from Hollywood to New York. It’s glamorous, it’s sexy, it’s chic… and it’s not that hard to do all by yourself. Nope, you don’t need a professional makeup artist to smoke out your eyes – you just need a few shadows, a few brushes and the know-how. Which is why I’m here.
Watch, learn and rock this look in no time.

If there is one thing I hate about eye makeup it’s that there seems to be only two options for daytime: swiping on the mascara for a boring, casual look, or doing it up so that you look like you’re about to go clubbing.
Where’s the in-between?
Well, there is one and I found it. This week I’m showing you a natural eye that adds a bit of pop to your everyday makeup routine. It’s super quick and easy and a great way to look good for a day on campus (and not a night out at the bars).

[One of the greatest aspects of college life is the morning-after recap with friends. You stumble out of bed, grab your liquid of choice, and gather around the living room to replay (and remind yourself of) the events of last night. You laugh, you cringe and you share the highest of highs...and the rock-bottom lowest of lows. We thought we'd bring the fun of the recap to CollegeCandy, so grab that coffee and take part in the deliciously awkward moments your CC friends have to share.]
We’ve all seen how boys act when they want to make out with you at a club. First, they come up behind you and begin to dance. Maybe you introduce yourselves, maybe you don’t. If they are a good dancer, you continue dancing, and if they suck, you text your friend that you have to go to the bathroom and she comes and pretends that she has to use the facilities at that exact second.
However, if you have decided that this guy is worth your dancing time, about five-ten minutes into the encounter (2-4 songs) he will likely turn you around so that it is only natural that your faces are near each other, therefore giving him the opportunity to make out with you. Read More »

Want longer lashes? (Wow, that sounded like a CoverGirl commercial.)
Well, now you can get them WITHOUT MASCARA. Yeah, you heard right.
The FDA has recently approved a new drug called Latisse, brought to you by the same pharmeceutical company that gave us Botox: Allergen Inc. They promise “longer, fuller, and darker lashes” with daily use on the upper eyelids for 16 weeks.
Who wouldn’t want that?
But beware of the caveat manufacturers don’t want you to know about. Possible side effects include a gradual darkening of the iris and a darkening of any portion of the surrounding area where the drug touches your skin. Not to mention the possiblility of looking like Chewbacca if it gets anywhere else on your body, since Latisse is merely a hair-follicle stimulant.
Oh, and if you still want to try it? It’ll make a dent of $120 for a 30-day supply. The effects aren’t permanent either, so your lashes will return back to their genetically-determined length after a few months of discontinued usage. Read More »

Being college-aged women, we tend to spend more time noticing what we hate about ourselves than what we love. We stand in front of the mirror and pinch our fat, measure our thighs and obsess over our pale skin/big nose/ugly ears. But how often have you ever looked in the mirror and celebrated your body and yourself?
During a week we devoted to the Eating Disorder epidemic, we feel it is important to stop hating on ourseles and, instead, focus on the extraordinary things we have to offer. So, we asked the CollegeCandy writers what they loved about themselves and it looks like we have some pretty fantastic writers.
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
Amanda – Wagner: I love my ability to laugh at myself. I think its important not to take yourself too seriously and try to just laugh at all the crazy in your life. And, of course, I always have a good story to tell because if that.
Brithny – Duke: I love how I am an ABC- American Born Chinese. It’s given me more opportunities and experiences than I could ever hope for.
Leah – Ryerson University: I love my body as a whole. I wouldn’t change one thing about it.
Alex – Lakehead University: My smile and laugh. I snort and usually other people laugh at my laugh, so I get people smiling. Read More »

The warmth here, the days are longer, and the beach is calling our names…that can only mean one thing: summer is upon us. And with summer comes the opportunity to find new and exciting ways to look our hottest; on the beach, at our summer internship/new jobs, and on those crazy nights out. So here are the main cosmetics trends to brighten up your summer and your face.
SKIN:
Matte Foundation and Powder: Matte, natural looking skin is the way to go this summer, allowing the bright colors we’re seeing pop up the opportunity to really stand out.
EYES:
White Eyeshadows/Liners: Seen all over the Spring/Summer runways, this is a great way to brighten up your eyes, while also giving an edgy look.
Smoky Eyes: The ever-popular smoky eye is back, but this season black takes a backseat and gold, bronze and dark browns are the way to go to pull off that sultry look while adding a summertime glow.
Bright Eyeshadows/Liners: Bright purples, blues and greens are popular choices for this season, but any brightly colored pencil or liner is a great way to add a pop of color to a neutral outfit, just be sure to pick out a color that plays up your eyes. Read More »

I had the intention of being a contact-wearer. But after a week in high school of trying to get them in every morning and only ending up with puffy, red, and irritated eyes (sans contacts), I decided they just weren’t for me.
But, all of my roommates in college currently wear contacts, so I hear about them constantly. Whether, it’s “Whoops, I passed out in my contacts last night after coming home from the bar” or “I don’t have time to clean them before class today,” the topic always seems to comes up.
Well, if you are one of those girls who wears contact in college, you may want to pay attention to a new study that reports, “Almost three quarters of contact lens wearers are risking blindness because of their dirty habits.”
It also found that over 15% of wearers will pick an unwashed contact lens off the floor and pop it in their eye and 70% of people keep their lenses in for far too long every day. Read More »
