Victoria’s Secret knows sexy – there’s no doubting that. But they also know that you don’t need to be in nothing but your $50 bra to feel sexy; all you need is this pair of leggings.
I know that off the bat leggings don’t sound like the sexiest garment in the world. You’ve seen all the girls on campus that wear them the wrong way with the too-short shirts, Uggs and panty lines galore. There are other ways to wear leggings, ladies! Trust me, after the freshmen 15, even though your jeans may no longer fit (it’s not your fault all you can afford is ramen!) and you can’t afford new ones, leggings like these – when worn correctly – can be fabulously slimming.
The number one rule to wearing leggings is to always, always, always wear a top long enough to cover your bum! Leggings truly are not a substitute for pants. (Editor’s Note: Just ask my friend Erica who always screams “leggings aren’t pants” at girls who just don’t get it.) The material tends to thin out around the largest parts of you (read: your butt) and your underwear will not be safe!
The best thing about these leggings from VS is that they’re different. They’re not your momma’s leggings from the ’80s. They have a chic sheen that isn’t overdone and makes them a tad more dressy – perfect to pair with a hot going-out top and a pair of heels or tucked into my favorite wish list wedges from last week!
But the thing I love most about these liquid leggings is what they’re not: pleather. Although I love the look, I just don’t see how it’s feasible. Pleather leggings are too shiny for throwing on for class, and they’re too pleathery for anything else. Hello! Imagine trying to sit on a vinyl chair in a pair of those bad boys? And wouldn’t your thighs get stuck together?? These liquid leggings, however, achieve the hot idea behind the look without sticking you in a fake leather bind. Read More »

[When moving into either a dorm or an off-campus apartment, your wardrobe will face two major challenges: 1. A major lack of funding (to add more to it). 2. A major lack of storage space. For these two reasons alone, maximizing what you do own becomes essential. That's why you need to learn to Shop Your Closet. Each week, I’ll show you how to wear 1 item 3 ways – with the stuff you most likely already own! – to get the most out of your purchases.]
Every year when I start school I get so excited to show off my summer wardrobe (that no one got to see for three months) for a few weeks. But then the leaves start to change, the Halloween stores pop up, and my cute summer clothes get banished to the back of my closet, where they sit taking up precious space for the rest of the year.
It’s a shame, really. I hate forking over cash for cute clothes that I only get to wear for maybe 4 months (and that’s only because of Global Warming….). Not anymore. I’ve started looking at my summer staples in a whole new way, coming up with fun new outfits that let me wear them long into the fall. And the results have been stellar! You want to give your summer goods a little more traction? Just add layers! Read More »

One mom approved must-have for both fall and college is a chic fall jacket.
The perfect fall jacket is neutral, goes with all your favorite clothes and fits just right. Not to mention, it “keeps you warm on those walks to class. You don’t want to catch a cold!” (Thanks, ma.)
This year there are lots of options out there regardless of your style: denim, military, leather, oh my! With so much variety at so many price points, why choose a favorite?
A fall jacket will take you to the field to watch football, on a walk home from an evening class when the air starts to feel crisp, and even out at night. Though if you’re going to a party, and don’t want to lose your coat, see if you can find a hot yet chivalrous boy to lend you his oversized jacket. If you’re wearing a feminine outfit underneath you’ll instantly achieve the “Cardellini effect” and have an excuse to find Mr. Hottie another day! Read More »

In the world of shopping right now, it is a very in between time. It’s still so humid that your hair is poofy and your face is dripping with sweat, so the thought of wearing anything warmer than a cotton camisole is non-existent. But at the same time, you know it’s silly to buy said cotton camisole-esque ensembles (or other summery ‘fits) because before you know it, leather jackets, wool sweaters, knit caps and boots will be your daily staples.
But thanks to major sales (and a deep and unwavering love for summer clothes) you still want to buy those fun, summery dresses! They’re so cute and frilly and light and cute! AND ON SALE. And you do have a few more bonfires/summer parties to attend before the heat lifts and you’re back at school, running to class in a pair of jeans and a cardigan.
Well, I’m here to tell you that you can! And you don’t even need to feel guilty about it. Here are 7 great options that can be worn with open toed wedges, flip flops and gladiator sandals now, then paired with opaque tights, leggings, boots or close-toed pumps later. Throw a leather jacket over them for some edge, add texture with a scarf and even a fabulous white dress can be made to look fall ready (paired with thick black tights, patent toe pumps and a leather jacket or black velvet blazer- so crisp, so fall).
So even though you don’t want to even THINK about fall (unless you’re thinking about how you’re going to decorate your new digs) you can wear these fab dresses for Welcome Week and know full well you can rock them into November!

Clockwise: Forever 21, $15,80; Forever 21, $29.80; Delia’s, $34.50; Mod Cloth, $44.99; Victoria’s Secret, $49; Nordstrom, $48; Old Navy, $29.50

The following post is courtesy of our gal pals over at CollegeFashion.net. Check them out for all your fashion and beauty needs!
As members of the CF (and CC!)community, it’s safe to say we’re all pretty fashion-savvy. We know what’s in, we know what’s out, and most of all we know that most of the season’s “must-haves” come with expiration dates. Similarly, we’re all students. We can’t afford to buy into the latest designer whims- we can barely afford to feed ourselves! So what’s a stylish college girl to do? Reach for the classics, of course.
Whereas most “wardrobe classics” lists talk about items that have been popular for centuries, this post is about the new era of timeless pieces – OUR classics: the new wardrobe staples for this generation. While of course there will be some overlap with old-school “fashion classics” lists, this list will focus on the next generation of classics, and list some newer pieces that every modern girl needs to own, as well as a few items that have been in style forever. It’s almost that time of year again. Time to pack up those boxes and head back to campus to endure the infamous walk of shame walk to class, cafeteria food, cute boys in uniform, and a little math problem I like to call “peppermint schnapps + chocolate milk = excellent football game material.” Cheers to that.
If you’re as excited as I am, it’s time to get a jump start and fill up your dresser drawers with some Fall-ish suga – aka the perfect fall wardrobe. Lucky for me, this season (because I’m obsessed with it) gray is the new neutral. Bye bye lint rolling the shiz out of all of my black clothes, right!?! Aren’t you ecstatic?! Gray is such a soft, easy color and goes with absolutely everything under the sun. So instead of running for cover in an end-of-summer sale rack of black, high tail it on over to the grays.
You won’t re-gray it. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Read More »

One of the best things about fall (besides Halloween, candy corn, pumpkin everything, Honeycrisp apples, etc.) is switching up your wardrobe. If you live in a colder climate (read: hell. frozen. over) like me, each October you yank your tanks and dresses from your closet (shed a few tears) and swap ‘em out for the sweaters and boots stuffed under your bed. And then you hit the mall to add a few new fun pieces to your already warm and snuggly fall/winter wardrobe.
But what should you add? With so many trends happening right now, you don’t have the space (or, more realistically, the money) to load up on everything this season. You need the best of the best – the items that are cute and functional and will get you through until the snow melts…in June.
Perhaps we can help. This week I asked the CollegeCandy writers to share their fall/winter fashion must-haves. See what they’re lovin’ this season and stock up on a bit of it for yourself. Sure, they may not have the best taste in men, but when it comes to fashion, they know their ish. Read More »

With fall here, it’s time to start adding new outerwear to your closet, and while many people argue that everyone needs a boyfriend blazer, I think everyone should be picking up this military jacket from Banana Republic. This sharp, dapper blazer can pull together any combination of a T-shirt and broken-in jeans (you know, the super comfy ones you wear every other day) when a decent outfit takes too much effort, or make you look even smarter when paired with a crisp, collared shirt.
It features pockets at the chest and waist, a standing collar, shoulder epaulets (for that extra touch of cool), a concealed button placket and cinching at the waist that creates the perfect hourglass shape. Roll up the sleeves for a more laid back look or add a necklace or two for some glam. Available in black and gray, it practically goes with everything, so, like your jeans, you can wear it every other day as well.
Planning my next trip to Banana Republic as we speak. See you there?
