A Do-It Yourself Pumpkin Facial

101305pumpkin.jpg Apples and Pumpkins. That’s fall. Apples, Pumpkins, and realizing it’s too cold for that little skirt but not cold enough to go back and change.

Oh, and fall is also about wind.

Harsh wind that will do a number to that delicate, summer sun-kissed face of yours if you’re not careful. A delicate, sun-kissed face that can be totally repaired by pumpkin.

See how we went full circle there?

To keep that beautiful face of yours beautiful, I’ve found the best, all natural pumpkin facial around. It smoothes and repairs, and best of all, smells awesome.

Ingredients

2 teaspoons cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed

one-half teaspoon honey

one-quarter teaspoon milk (or soymilk)

Directions

Combine all your ingredients and apply to your face—just don’t shove it into your eyes.

Hang out for 10-15 minutes, then wash your face with warm water and apply your normal moisturizer. Read More »

The Perfect Fall Cocktail

starbucksThere is a slight chill in the air on this fine October morning, which can mean only one thing: Fall is here. Why so chipper, you ask? Why would anyone celebrate the end of summer and embrace the coming of sweater season?

Um. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes are back at Starbucks!

I am just obsessed with these things. And if you have never had one, get over to the nearest ‘Bucks (I am sure you are a mere 10 feet from one right now) and get one. You too will be hooked and totally excited about Fall.

And in the spirit of the changing leaves and all things pumpkin-y at Starbucks, I have found for you the perfect late night compliment to my favorite espresso beverage:

The Pumpkin Pie Cocktail

This drink goes perfectly with a pair of cozy sweatpants, a warm blanket and a night at home with the girls. For a truly perfect Fall evening, throw in a little Mystic Pizza (Julia Roberts’ movie debut!) and settle in. Read More »

Weekend Yummy: Apple Crumble Muffins

1488.jpg I heart muffins.

It doesn’t really matter what type of muffins they are—I’ll eat any flavor.

I’ll eat muffins with nuts, with berries, with chocolate chips…you can even put carrot and zucchini in there, I won’t mind.

Since the weekend is finally here, why don’t we celebrate two wonderfully late mornings with a beautiful muffin recipe that includes fall’s sweetest treat: apples?

Wake up your whole dorm with the amazing smell of these muffins, and you might just become the most popular girl in school—at least until they’re all gone.

Here’s what you need to get started: Read More »

Get Romantic This Fall

fall romanceSo, there’s no denying it—its Fall. The weather is cooling off, kids are pushing me down the subway stairs on their way to school, and department stores are setting their display tables with turkeys and Santa Clauses.

Those long summer nights and romantic strolls on the beach are pretty much finished (unless you like freezing water stinging your face), but just because the leaves are dying, doesn’t mean the romance has to.

Here are a few dating ideas that can only happen in the Fall.

Apple picking: Even if you live in the city, there’s got to be an apple orchard somewhere close to you, and talking a beautiful walk through rows and rows of apple trees is simply amazing. You can soak up the Fall air, get a few apple-tinged goodies (apple cider donuts = heaven), and do something active with the one you love (or are beginning to love).

• Do the Fairs: Street fairs, country fairs, fall is the perfect time to grab your sweetie’s hand and pull them towards farm stands or a rickety Ferris wheel that looks like it might kill you both. There are plenty of fairs happening in September and October, all you gotta do is Google them. Read More »

Fall Fashion Lust List: Jackets

fall jacketWith New York Fashion Week beginning tomorrow, the fashion world is gearing up for next spring.

But the rest of us, the small lowly peons who lust after the goods and then stockpile cheaper offers, are still attempting the seasonal transition from summer to fall.

I have been staring at the fall trends since the last Fashion Week held in the spring, and now I am finally beginning to see the stores stock some of the trends I have been itching to purchase.

And this fall season, the fashions are jacket heavy.

Not coats—not outerwear that is heavy and daunting (for some reason the puff jacket is back..eww), but lightweight jackets that are fun, funky and now complete a once summer turned fall outfit you felt was totally lacking.

This fall, jackets and blazers have taken on every shape and size from schoolboy blazer to nipped in leather to a full and swingy capes and ponchos. This fall, it is not the pattern on the fabric but the fabric itself that has shown precedence.

Velvet, thin buttery leather, and the perfect shade of blue denim: this is what is important. It’s about the cut, the color and the fabric. The jackets of the season are about what looks good on you, what fits your fancy.

These are not showy pieces that are going to go out of style, this is outerwear you will keep—and wear—for years to come. Read More »

It Isn’t Quite Time to Say Goodbye to Summer

anna sui fashionAs your favorite stores begin to fill their racks with sweaters and heavy denim, you may find yourself clinging to your favorite sundress for dear life.

Maybe it’s those killer new sandals you picked up last week or that adorable cropped jacket you haven’t yet had the opportunity to flaunt. Don’t despair! Stylebakery.com has compiled a list of ways to recycle your summer style into the fall months.

My favorite suggestions were the first three on the list.

1. Floral Dress- The fall is a colorful season. Why ditch your floral dress when the leaves turn from green to red? Stylebakery provides a number of options to keep this piece active. The main theme seems to be layer a cardigan on top of your dress and adding on some tights (or leggings!). A few accessories will add even more flare to your ensemble.

2. Bermuda Shorts- Bermuda shorts are versatile, comfortable, and cute. You may want to extend their time of use as they look good with everything from T-shirts to high heels. Slip some tights or leggings under these babies to help them hang in just a bit longer. For an elegant look, you may want to add a patterned or lace tight under your Bermuda shorts. To stay casual stick to opaque tights or jersey leggings. Read More »

Money Saving Tips That Will Keep You Smiling

girl holding moneyAh, clothes, purses and sunglasses. Why do you torture me so?

While I do think it is a teeny-weeny-bit ridiculous that you are coming out in full autumn getup, you are, nonetheless, so freakin adorable.

Seeing your quilted leather handles or fur trimmed collar makes me want to pack away my mini-dresses and tanks and pray for a snow day.

But then I see your price tag and am forced back into reality — I can barely afford the final clearance summer rack let alone a new Marc Jacobs fall coat (which is really a shame because what a cute coat you are!).

However, there is hope my fellow penny-pinching college students of mine.

Thanks to Real Simple magazine, I have a few tips that will help you save up for that rainy day shopping spree.

• Buy Gas On Tuesdays: gas prices go up on weekends often because they want to take advantage of errand runners and weekend travelers. Read More »
