Who or what inspires your style? Many of us use cultural icons (like Frida Kahlo) or models (like Daisy Lowe)as style inspiration even though, most of the time, they are being dressed from head to toe by the best stylists.Which we don’t have. And sometimes it’s damn near impossible to work their Hollywood looks into our not-so-Hollywood lives. I’ve made it my mission to tap into the mind of a fashion stylist and show you how to take your style inspiration – whatever it may be – and make it more you!
Before school starts in a week and a half, I’ve decided to give myself some much needed chill time (cuz I’m a bro, apparently). A.K.A. sleeping until around 2 p.m., catching up on T.V. I didn’t get a chance to watch over the summer and then showering after that stressful day before night time boozin. What can I say, it’s a great Welcome Week and it’s even better when I can revisit some of my favorite shows from my childhood. One of those shows I’ve been religiously watching is the ’90s cult-classic, Daria.
First of all, Daria Morgendorffer isn’t even real, but instead a monotone misanthropic animated character that represents the apathetic attitude of so many of her fans. Including me. As much as Daria doesn’t want her style to “say anything,” it does. It says, “What I’m wearing really doesn’t have any physical representation of my opinions or feelings about life because, at the end of the day, they’re just clothes.”
When looking at Daria’s style, her lack of makeup and those seriously sh*t-kicking boots, it has an almost feminist approach. At the same time, though, it is perfectly aligned with the biggest styles coming our way this fall: flirty skirts, military jackets and adorned boots. Read More »

At one point in my life, there was a time when I did think Sarah Silverman was absolutely high-larious on her show, The Sarah Silverman Program. Unfortunately, those days have long since passed, but I’m still left with something about her that I admire.
Besides her ability to nonchalantly rock a mustache at a super-formal event, surprisingly, it’s also her style.
Just to be clear, though: it’s not Sarah’s red carpet looks that I covet. While she has been known to work corsets, ball gowns and sexy frocks to big-time events, that side of Sarah’s style doesn’t interest me because, 1) she often makes major fashion mistakes and 2) she looks so…not Sarah (and really, painfully uncomfortable).
The Sarah Silverman style I love is her everyday, low key, totally casual, I don’t give a sh*t, look. On a normal day Sarah doesn’t do much to make herself look like anything special. Her typical uniformed style is a track jacket, jeans, Converse and her hair in a ponytail. Ravishing? Ehhh, maybe not to some; lord knows Joan Rivers wouldn’t have nice things to say about it. But I think that style is Sarah and it sets her apart, in a good way. Most celebrities in movies or on TV have to constantly make sure they look perfect, almost like the audience should strive to look like them. But Sarah, on the other hand, would rather just be real and look like the audience themselves. Read More »
Hello, Wednesday. I have quite the love/hate relationship with you. Obviously, I love that you’re in the middle of the week and that many dub you “Hump Day.” But you’re still just the middle of the week – there are still two more long days to go – and no matter what people call you, I haven’t found anyone to celebrate Hump Day with.
There’s only one thing that can make this any better (without costing you a bundle of money or a days worth of calories) and that’s a great big game of “Would You Rather?” Because there is no better way to pass time in that ridonkulous 2-hour class than by pondering life’s most preposterous situations.
So think long and hard, choose your answer and give us the deets in the comments section below, K? K.
Would you rather choose 20 items from your favorite fashion icon’s wardrobe to have for free OR have your favorite designer make five pieces just for you?
[Celebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their totally awesome fashion sense. Each week, I will be highlighting my Style Idol of the week: a celebrity who consistently shows keen fashion sense and whose closet I would raid in a heartbeat.
Of course, no celebs are immune to the occasional “what the hell were they thinking?” moment, but for the most part, these celebs look foxy and fabulous and inspire us all to do the same.]
My Style Idol this week is none other than the oh-so-lovely, Scarlett Johansson. Scarlett’s style has wowed fans both on and off the red carpet, though she’s most famous for her glamorous red carpet looks. (And, maybe, her hottie arm candy.) She picks perfect colors that compliment her fair complexion and blonde hair and cuts that accentuate her incredible… ahem… assets. She’s become such a fashion icon, she was chosen to be the face of Louis Vuitton, whose current designer is her good friend, Marc Jacobs.
While she goes out on a limb occasionally, she more often than not goes with classic styles, but puts her own twist with great selections of accessories, be it jewelry, hair pieces or shoes. She’s got a look that’s classic Hollywood and she plays up on that well. Overall, Scarlett dolls herself up in ways that make fashionistas ’round the world drool and that puts her way up there on my Style Idol list. Read More »

Charlize Theron is a not only a gifted actress and a natural stunner, she’s a fashion icon who is consistently placed on best-dressed lists for her ability to put together jaw-dropping ensembles that highlight her gorgeous face and body. She does a great job of wearing everything from vintage/classic to avante garde styles, and even when donning a casual look, she looks chic, put together and beautiful.
Dior is one of her favorite designers and I can’t imagine him having anyone better to show off his duds. Charlize accessorizes with very natural make-up and a shimmery bronzer to add a light glow to her lovely complexion. She’s worn her hair long, short, brown and blonde, and looked gorgeous with every different look.
Charlize has an essence about her that makes her look seem effortless and her statuesque presence is only highlighted by her beautiful fashion choices. The girl’s got a style that many women try to emulate, but few can pull off and that in itself makes her my Style Idol of the week. Read More »

Gwen Stefani has long been associated with fashion; whether rocking her unique personal style, or showing her latest L.A.M.B line, Gwen knows what it means to be stylish. She’s never been afraid to take risks, and they almost always pay off. Her love of wild and bright prints, lots of color and, of course, her signature platinum hair and red lips, set Gwen apart from the rest of Hollywood’s fashionistas.
Gwen Stefani has never fit into the mold of “what’s hot now”; she created it. Despite the fact that she goes for bold choices, she carries them with an air that makes it all look effortless, owning the look instead of letting it own her.
It doesn’t matter if she’s pregnant or not, running errands or getting married; Gwen Stefani certainly knows how to make an impression. Read More »

My style idol this week is someone who has recently come into her own and proven to the world that you can come out of a (very) bad break-up stronger and more beautiful than ever before: Anne Hathaway.
Ever since her life seemed to be falling apart early this summer when her ex was accused of fraud and tax evasion, Anne has been kicking some major booty. Not only is she getting rave reviews and Oscar buzz for her role in Rachel Getting Married, she’s doin’ it all while looking gorgeous and glam.
Let’s be honest; Anne hasn’t always been totally up on style or considered a fashion icon. Lately, however, she’s been seen everywhere sporting well thought-out ensembles that are trendy yet unique, classy, and do a phenomenal job of highlighting her long & lean frame.
She’s often seen in darling and feminine dresses, is a big fan of belts, and, when on the red carpet, she’s fantastic at throwing back to old Hollywood glamour with gorgeous gowns by designers like Marchesa and Dior. This combination of new-found style and a killer new haircut has turned her into a bonafide fashion star and officially has me drooling over her closet. Read More »
So basically I’ve been obsessed with Gwen Stefani since waaaay back in the days of Tragic Kingdom (I’ve only seen No Doubt in concert about eight times). And I’m soooo excited to see what she’s going to do tonight on American Idol! I haven’t even really been following this season – mainly because I watched last year and once Taylor Hicks won, I vehemently decided that from that point on I was anti-idol. However, I now have a new-found respect for the show, since they’re inviting my Gwennie to coach the final 10 and then perform “The Sweet Escape” with Akon (!) on the Wednesday results show. Stay tuned, kids…
As I patiently await the arrival of the Material Girl’s collection for H&M, I couldn’t help but take a sneak peak on hm.com.
After using up about an hour of my valued facebook time, I finally made my way through H&M’s slow website. I have decided Madonna should stick to her day job.
It’s clear Madonna is not a clothing designer. Her clothes seem to go from ridiculous (a catsuit? A turban?) to extremely boring. Do we really need another little black dress or a white pant suit? She also seems to love thick belts and cropped pants that fall right below the knee. I know she loves riding horses but I don’t have a need for riding pants.
The M by Madonna collection is also far from the normally affordable H&M price tags. I mean there are some items I am considering buying, like a white trench, and a sequence mod dress, but they’re a little pricey.
Once images of the collection are available I will give an update, but in the meantime check out the collection here.
