There’s a little something for everyone. Click through the gallery to find out whose clothes would be perfect for you…if you had a few thousand extra dollars to spend. Read More »

VICE Covers Full-Figured Fashion Week

Full-Figured Fashion Week? I didn’t know it existed either, but good thing! VICE is running an eight-episode series called Fashion Week Internationale that will “document the most implausible and outrageous fashion weeks around that world, that you’ve probably never heard of.” Well, honestly I don’t think Full-Figured Fashion week is implausible or outrageous. It’s pretty great, actually. But in the eyes of the fashion world, it’s definitely unheard of.

In a world of sizes 0 and 2, it’s awesome to see full-figured ladies taking the runway in designer creations. After watching the episode, I noticed they walk with more confidence than the skinniest of models. I’ve been to and been in several shows, and I have never seen girls strut quite like the women in this VICE piece.

All women should feel beautiful, and it’s awesome to see the fashion world taking a step in the right direction. However, I’d really like to see a show that includes women of all sizes just like everyone else. It’s so inspiring that these women have taken it upon themselves to create their own fashion week, and hopefully it will draw some much needed attention to the cause.

What do you think about Full-Figured Fashion Week?

Living Out Every Fashionista’s Dream: My Experience At New York Fashion Week!

The best thing about New York City in the middle of a very cold and dreary February is, obviously, Fashion Week. And it also happens to be the best thing about being an unpaid intern. This year I got the opportunity to cover a few fashion shows and presentations for my internship — and believe me when I say I couldn’t have been more excited to take on this particular task.

There is nothing quite like NY Fashion Week — the tents are full of a mix of sleep-deprived reporters, stylish socialites, celebrities surrounded by onlookers, and cranky photographers hauling around a ton of equipment. It’s pretty much the most glamorous trainwreck you’ll ever see and little ol’ intern me couldn’t look away. That is, until the doors opened and it was time for the main event. Let me tell you, even if you’re not into fashion (which I totally am), there is nothing like the energy you feel watching a fashion show, from the beginning when you’re waiting around for it start (always expect them to be at LEAST a half-hour late), until the end when you’re giving a standing ovation to a truly beautiful collection. Just knowing I was witnessing something so incredible, something that many people never have the opportunity to see up close, sent chills down my achy-from-walking-in-my-too-high-heels spine. New York Fashion Week: CC does BJ (Betsey Johnson)

[While most of us are relying on photos and livestreams to get a glimpse of New York Fashion Week, some very lucky CollegeCandy writers were blessed with the opportunity to attend some of the biggest shows at Lincoln Center. Of course, they promised they'd share their experiences with everyone, so here is Melanie's first-hand account of one of the most anticipated shows of the week.]

What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than at New York Fashion Week? When boys fail, fashion rules. In the famous Lincoln Center Theater on February 14th, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week showcased the fashion show of the season from the iconic Betsey Johnson. Our friends at Rowenta treated us to an extra-special night of floral prints, celebrities galore, crazy kooky hair and catwalk cartwheels.

The show opened with dark eyed, gaunt models strutting their stuff in the “He Loves You Not” portion of the show. The hair was sleek and airbrushed with black lace patterns, and the clothes were deliciously pressed and witchy (thank god for the Rowenta steamers and irons backstage). The music blared, Jill Zarin texted on her Blackberry and Miss Jay silently nodded his approval as the gothic looks stormed down the runway. It was incredibly chic, sleek and dark. My MVPs? A long fur coat and a lace up dress.

It took all my power (and fear of the many security guards standing by) to keep me from jumping on the runway and tearing them off the models. Read More »

Fashion Week Goes Eco-Friendly

Nolcha Fashion Week is probably something you’ve never heard of.  However, it is something you should have heard of. Nolcha Fashion Week is all about showcasing the brilliance of globally-minded and eco-friendly designers from all across the world. Their goal is to introduce the world to a new type of fashion that is friendly to both the earth and to our closets. It’s a new age of ethical fashion that means sustainability without sacrifice and style that is sexy.

Six designers that are simply outstanding are Ailin, Alberto Parada, House of Tammam, room to roam, REY, and Helicopter. Each of these designers, though fabulously varied and differentiated, shares the same goal: to promote the rise of ethical fashion in an eco-friendly, sustainable, and organic way without losing any of the greatness that is fashion.

And they do it well. Take a peek at their gorgeous work that reminds us all that sustainable is sexy, eco-friendly is exciting, and organic is orgasmic. Read More »

5 Things You’ll See At New York Fashion Week

Here at CollegeCandy we like to consider ourselves quite the fashion go-to girls. I mean, we tell you where to shop, what to buy, and how to wear it. So it’s only right that today, the first day of Mercedes Benz Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week (gah, that’s a mouthful!), we offer you our two cents on what’s to come.

But not so much on the clothes themselves, or even the designers. We’ll leave that to the professionals. Instead we’d rather focus on everything else. So here’s what’s coming your way from the runways of New York over the next 7 days. Well, besides the great clothes, and the good looking guys, and the gorgeous models, that is.

1. The ugliest clothes you’ve ever seen. They’ll be hideous. Unflattering. Out of proportion. They will break every fashion rule that has ever been made. No one will ever wear them. And no one will ever want to. But for the entirety of Fashion Week people will rave about how brilliant the designers are, and how great the clothes look. And sure they will probably inspire some really cute outfits from some less than Fashion Week-worthy designers, but those clothes? The originals? Those won’t be worn again. Not even by Blair Waldorf. Weekly Wrap Up: Kinda, Sorta Settled In

Oh college, you slay me. Between my eye-popping total for text books (looks like another semester of ramen and Capri Sun) and overdoses of 5 Hour Energy (yes, already), sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane is walking home from campus or work in the pouring rain. Pause. Not.

But at least CollegeCandy has been here for me this week, keeping me entertained and informed during my study sessions bouts of procrastination in the library. It’s been a hectic week – settling into a new year for college, working out all things financial and somewhere in there managing to put together a futon (it doesn’t convert into a bed because we skipped a step somewhere, but oh well). But CC’s here to guide me along.

And here are a few things that got me through the week:

- When you graduate in the midst of this economic tornado (we’ve left Kansas, but haven’t touched down in Oz), things seem hopeless. Sometimes, though, you just have to learn to take a break and let it happen.

- Get some extra dough for important expenses (water guns, shot glasses, etc.) with the guide to on-campus jobs.

- New cup, new cup. Move down! Wrong tea party. Get cultured and learn some more about the Tea Party political movement. You could impress that cutie in the Young Democrats Club.

- New standards for sexy. A few extra pounds don’t make you fat, just look at Jessica Simpson still rockin’ her bod. Read More »
