[It's pretty obvious that the average CollegeCandy reader has some very strong opinions. Opinions that she likes to share with everyone on the site. Sometimes with mean words. We love a strong woman (unless she happens to be charging at us with her fists raised), so we thought we'd give her a real forum to discuss her thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. Every Friday I'll be featuring a hot topic (like don't ask, don't tell!) and leaving it up to you, the readers, to duke it out. So, read it and get your debate on in the comments section below!]

In ‘studies that make my skin crawl’ news, researchers at the University of Pecs (please excuse me while I go find a school transfer form. Pecs, here I come!) in Hungary found that most people they studied wind up in long-term relationships with a partner who resembles their opposite sex parent. Basically, that means that most women end up married to a man who physically resembles their father, which is… ick. Just ick. The question is, do we think this is really accurate, or did something go horribly awry in this study?

On the one side, the people we grow up around naturally shape some of our ideas. I, for example, come from a family of big burly guys, so if you asked me “what does a guy look like” my baseline would be 6 feet tall, 200 pounds. Since our parents are with us since, well, birth, it’s natural that their influence would be stronger still. These people shape, not only our personalities and our ideas, but also our aesthetic preferences. Maybe it’s not that we go for someone who looks like our dad, but just that we’ve learned to see our fathers as handsome and by that virtue, men who look like dad are good-looking too.

On the other side though, I question whether that really defines who we end up with. Like I said, my baseline for a guy is reasonably specific, but not all of the guys I’ve dated actually fall into that range, and I certainly wouldn’t avoid dating guy for that reason. In fact, in my experience, women are much less likely to abide by a ‘type’ than guys are, so ultimately it seems really unlikely that we all happen to end up with guys who look like our dads.

There’s also something in there that’s maybe even more disturbing than the Freudian implications of this study, which is – it suggests that the person we end up with is largely predetermined by their looks. Because I needed a nice dose of ‘you’re biologically shallow’ for the day.

Anyways, the time has finally come for me to feel for this girl. Not because her mom is sh*t nuts. Not because her sister is being whored out on TV for monetary gain. Not because she allegedly has some secret half sister lurking somewhere in the Midwest. Not because she needs to become a lesbian in order to find someone to trust. Not even because she is a lesbian with some creepy looking skinny dude-ish girl.

I feel bad for her because she really has no one she can trust.

I think we all take for granted the fact that, no matter what, at the end of the day we have someone we can turn to that has our best interest at heart. And if no one else, it is usually a parent. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for a lot of people in showbiz (just look at Britney!) and it is certainly not the case for LiLo.

Even her father has been known to leak her personal info to the press just to see his name in print. On many occasions. And now he is trying to get back on Lindsay’s good graces with this voicemail. The message is creepy and just total bullsh*t. You can almost hear the cogs turning in his brain as he thinks of how he can use her next. He is a total sleazeball. I am beginning to wonder if he paid that Kristi Kaufmann to plant that “He’s the father of my baby” story.

Poor Lindsay has to cut her own parents (we know she’s not talking to Dina since she wants nothing to do with her terrible reality show) out of her life to get some privacy. That is just sad. I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t keep my family around me or count on them to protect me.

No matter how many Miu Miu bags this girl has, I can’t help but feel bad.

Not that I still don’t want one. In fact, I’m just gonna keep my eyes open for one of them on EBay. I’m sure Michael will have them up there soon.

Aiken has artificially inseminated his “best friend” and producer, Jaymes Foster, who is in her late 40’s. Clay has even decided to be a father in earnest (no, not that way) and help raise the little tyke. The baby is due in August, which means that they’ve managed to keep this under wraps for a while now.

I would like to offer my congratulations to the future parents. And so, as a gift (for some reason, I wasn’t invited to the baby shower) I’m going to give Clay some advice on how not to horribly scar and embarrass his child.

1. Don’t Smile.

You’ve recently bought a new smile, Clay, but I’m sorry, adding huge ceramic teeth to an already startlingly creepy face is a bad move. If you catch your infant child unawares, he may think that you are a beaver monster and never trust you again.

2.Stay on Broadway as long as you can, especially if it means that you don’t have time to record a new album. Spamalot is the most unironically brilliant job for you and it has a certain cool, broadway cache that your child will find a lot cooler than all of the middle-aged fan clubs you’ve inspired.

3.Get a haircut. Okay, this is more for my sake than for your child’s. But I promise Clay Jr. will appreciate it too. When your hair style has been unfavorably compared to Phil Spector’s in the height of his crazy, it’s time to try something new.

4. Don’t let your child get on the internet. Ever. At least don’t let him or her do a google image search with your name if you want to maintain any sort of authority. While you are setting some ground rules, outlaw this video, too.

I know this may have come off as a little harsh, but such is the nature of celebrity. In all seriousness, I’m sure that Clay will be a lovely parent, singing to his child constantly. Which reminds me…

5. Don’t sing to your child constantly. You have a lovely voice, so everyone once and a while is okay, but don’t be like so many other musical artists who feel compelled to sing things that they could easily just say.

The author of the article had a strange family (read: possible incest? he’s not sure) and he’d lost touch with his sister, who only called his mother once in a while to report that she had some fabulous job.

And then…he saw his sister’s picture in a porn magazine.

It all spiraled down from there. Guilt. Embarrassment. Horror. I mean, you name it. What struck me the most, however, was the sister’s relationship to her family in relation to what she did. She basically just disappeared from sight.

At first, I thought that was pretty awful of her. I mean, she should at least give her family the chance to understand, right? Shouldn’t she give them the opportunity to show her that they love her no matter what she does?

But then I got to thinking what it must be like to be a pornstar. Imagine people recognizing you on the street and knowing what you look like underneath that crisp interview suit? Imagine them eyeing you while you’re on a date at some nice candlelit restaurant?

And of course some people get off on that. I totally get it. I can be somewhat of an exhibitionist myself…But how would a pornstar relate to her family? Specifically her father?

I know it sounds weird and old fashioned and gross, but your father forms your idea of men, right? He’s the male figure you hold all men against. So if you’re having sex for money (or fame), how do you look your dad in the eye and say, “It has nothing to do with you?”

To be honest, if I was doing porn, I think I’d lie about it. Like the girl in the article, I’d probably make up jobs to account for my income. And if I were discovered by a family member, I am almost positive I would disappear too. I can’t imagine a way that I would tell my parents I was doing porn that wouldn’t completely hurt their feelings, after all these years of working to give me a better life than they had. Which is what parents generally try to do.

I don’t have any moral objection to being a porn star. In fact, for some women, it’s probably as good as it’s gonna get [provided the sex is safe sex]. But how, how, how do you deal with your family?
