Sun, sand, swimsuits and Spring Break.
Apart from an icy cocktail and a hot cabana boy, the final touches for your Spring Break packing is an assortment of practical (yet stylish) accessories. The first accessory: the perfect sunhat that is as fabulous as it is functional. Not only will you look fierce on the beach, but it will also save your scalp and face from too much sun exposure. You’ll also need a great pair of sunglasses to shield you from the sun when you’re laying out… or struggling to stay outside after a late night out. (Sunnies are also great for discrete boy watching. Just sayin’.)
Now is also the time to start scoping out sandals if you need a new pair. Just be smart; Spring Break might not be the time to break in a pair of expensive sandals you love, in the off chance you lose one. Which, as anyone who’s ever been on Spring Break knows, is highly likely. And of course, you need a great beach bag to hold it all (and sunblock, magazines, a bottle of tequila…) that won’t get ruined when someone spills their margarita on it.
What’s that? You need some help picking out the goodies? Well lookie here – I’ve got 15 splendid Spring Break accessories ready and waiting for you. Bon Voyage! Read More »

There are some things in the fashion world that we purchase with the best of intentions, but never get around to wearing. For me, this includes an assortment of pashminas, a plaid button-down dress, wide-leg linen pants, and a whole array of hats!
Why is it that so many of us forget to wear the cute hats we purchase? I wear much more daring items on a regular basis, such as over-the-knee boots and fur vests during the winter, so it’s not that I’m fashion-shy. And I’m pretty lazy about washing my hair, so I could certainly use a hat more than I actually do. Anyone else encounter this strange phenomenon?
So this week’s Fashion Challenge is to dig through your closet and find that hat you fell in love with at the store, brought home, and promptly forgot about. Styling an outfit around a hat is a lot easier than you think, especially as we progress into the chilly weeks of fall. Read More »

Every (dreadful) Monday, I write a list. Definitely not a to-do list (because it’s not satisfying checking “browse J.Crew’s website” and “Re-watch every episode of Rachel Zoe” off a list) and not “that list” (because I haven’t added to that list… in forever). No, my lists are more about whatever is relevant and weighing heavy on the CollegeCandy readers’ minds (or just mine) right now. Like scarves and jeans and jackets….
The first day of fall came only a week ago and I’ve already stuffed all my shorts into a duffel and shoved them under my bed. Nothing, I tell you, nothing (okay, other than Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes), is more enticing about fall than the clothing choices. I mean, where to start? Sweater dresses, boots, comfy jeans? I couldn’t be storing my sundresses and gladiator sandals faster if I tried.
And try I did.
However, as I page through magazines and scroll through my Google reader, I can’t help but notice some of the heinous fall trends popping up that can’t end sooner. Here’s the rundown of what needs to go.
10. Open toed booties
Seriously, what is up with that? Isn’t the point of a boot to keep your foot warm? Why would you make a boot peeptoe? Unattractive and unnecessary.
9. Button Down Plaid Shirts
I thought these died with Kurt Cobain. Why are they still being worn? Enough. Read More »

[Welcome to Celebrity Chic on the Cheap in which our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know - there is a spot for her in heaven.]
I’m an unabashed Xtina lover. She snagged me with “Reflections” (yes, I took it all the way back to Mulan), and I’ve stuck with her through her various musical and aesthetic reinventions, from the dirty to the vintage to the futuristic.
What I’ve always admired about Christina, besides her stellar voice and her ability to redefine catty and alienate her peers is her personal style. She is not one of those celebs we’re likely to catch bumming around in slouchy sweats and stained shirts (I still love you, Britney!). Even when she’s strolling around L.A., she’ll elevate a casual tank top + leggings look with interesting accessories and sky-high heels. Read More »

There’s one thing that hats and sunglasses have in common that make them super sexy. What is it? The fact they protect you from the sun! Essentials for summer, these are not only functional, but they also add pizazz to your look. Functional and stylish! What’s not to love?
This combination of accessories will take you from the beach, to the bar (just toss the shades in your bag!), and even on the morning walk home. All your bases are covered as a hat will cover up your tousled bed beach hair and shades can help you avoid making eye contact with anyone throwing you judgmental looks.
With milliners such as Eugenia Kim designing hats for Target, there are many stylish options that won’t break the bank. And as the uber-chic fedora is back in style, those fearful of the floppy J-Lo-esque hat have another choice.
There are so many chic shades and hats to choose from, you’ll find it hard to make a choice. So don’t! Just pick up a set for every day of the week. Read More »

Since the first Kentucky Derby and my long time-span between showers, hats have really become this girl’s best friend. They block out the naughty rays of sun on a summer day, and make everyone look cute and trendy while doing so. To top it off (pun intended) the spring-summer hat styles are making me melt in my desk chair. They. Are. To. Die. For.
I can see it now…strolling from my local coffee shop, latte in hand, fedora on head, bliss in fashion/local barista form. Bliss, eh? Whether or not you are prancing to your last final (with greasy hair) on a windy day or rolling out your beach mat for the first day on the beach front lawn – fall head over heels with this super cute summer hats, for cheap! When you think Vintage Fashion, what comes to mind? Soft v-neck tees, your favorite jeans, flashy mini-skirts, and something that sparkles, all with a retro feel?
The thought makes you drool, doesn’t it?
Everyone loves vintage fashion. Those unique items are like the one-of-a-kind antiques of fashion, and with trends circulating as they do, it makes sense to covet the old and fabulous. But short of raiding grandma’s closet or spending hundreds at some small over-priced vintage boutique, where can you load up on the retro?
Allow me to recommend a few good places. Their goods may not be on-of-a-kind, but they are certainly a retro and cool kind all their own. Read More »

The leaves are starting to change and the temperature is starting to drop, bringing in the season of hot- cocoa-and-tv-nights and cute, cozy clothes. While layering sweaters and scarves might seem like a no-brainer, there is another way to ensure you stay warm. And chic.
With a hat.
Yes, while you always listened to your mother when she told you to zip up that jacket, you probably tuned her out when she started nagging you about a hat. “You lose most of your body heat through your head,” she’d yell behind you. Not that you cared; you’d rather lose body heat than look dorky and mess up that hair you just spent 30 minutes straightening.
But not anymore. Hats are all the rage (just ask The Budget Stylista) and I’ve got 16 right here that will make your mama proud. They not only serve the ever-functional purpose of keeping you warm, but they also add a whole new layer of cool to your winter ensembles. Oh, and did I mention how wonderful they are for covering up an unfortunate hair day? Because bad hair days happen. Especially if you’re doing a walk of shame across campus. But no one will know if you throw a little cap on top.
And don’t tell me you’re not a “hat person.” Everyone can be a hat person, especially with the variety of styles. Just take a gander and you’re sure to find one that you love and that loves you back. Read More »

Thanks to the tips of a fellow CollegeCandy writer (thanks Cristina!), I have discovered a website I never knew existed. After getting over the fact that I was forced to live this long sans this site, I embraced the new find and I’m loving it! It’s called Karma Loop and they have a great selection of some awesome brands. But even better, they have a giant sale section (seriously, there are hundreds upon hundreds of things!) that has tons of awesome goods for totally affordable prices.
Naturally, I found 8 things that you can’t live without and, thanks to the low prices, you really don’t have to: Read More »

If my new obsession with Old Soul New Heart taught you anything, it’s that accessories can make an outfit.
And here’s another thing I’m about to teach you, so take note: if you want to stand out in a crowd wear a hat.
Every time I go out on a weekend in a beret EVERYONE comments. It’s unique, it’s different andit says you’ve got fashion balls.
Hello, risk-taker!
If, however, you find yourself in my shoes with a big case of LH (large head, and I mean that literally; not the ego kind), headbands are another great way to change up a look or keep up with a trend without going into serious debt. They also happen to be a great way to get by without washing your hair for “just one more day”- slick those bangaroos back and you look chick and clean! Cute while being lazy? Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Here are my favorite hats, headbands and hair accessories for fall. They give a whole new meaning to hat hair and for once, I don’t mind it! Read More »
