black-leggings black leggings 2 leggings 3

Fall merchandise will be arriving in stores over the next few weeks, and while it may be tempting to run out and get a whole new back to school wardrobe, don’t! Wait for sales to begin, and shop in your closet instead.

One item that the majority of college girls have in their closets are leggings. The great thing about leggings, like this pair by Plan B from Bloomingdale’s, is that they can be worn with practically anything. Here are three outfit ideas that use leggings to take your summer outfits into fall: Read More »

Day-to-Night Styler: Pretty in Pink

summer florals

One of the best things about summer is that the style is easy, breezy and casual. That makes dressing for day to night a cinch; it doesn’t take much to make a smooth transition. That applies most easily to summer florals; flowy and flirty by day can turn into edgy and sophisticated by night.

And all you need are a few simple swaps. Read More »

Wardrobe Wish List: BCBG Printed Flutter Sleeve Dress

bcbg 1 bcbg2

In attempts to save money, I swore off any sort of shopping for the month of June. I don’t need another dress or another pair of shoes for at least 12 years, but I could definitely use some extra moolah in my bank account. Knowing that I’d cave the moment I stepped foot in a clothing store, I haven’t gotten near one since May. Unfortunately, though, my personal pact did not stop my daily shopping emails from arriving in my inbox.

And that is where I saw this beauty, which makes me super happy that July 1 is just around the corner.

May I introduce you to the perfect summer dress? It’s light and feminine and the cut would be flattering on almost anyone. The flowers are bright and summery, yet delicate. They let you take part in the floral trend of the summer without screaming “I’M TAKING PART IN THE FLORAL TREND OF THE SUMMER!” And those ruffles? Sophisticated and somehow totally girly.

The dress also happens to be half-off, meaning it is summer (and recession) perfectionion. I just hope there is one left in my size when Thursday rolls around. I’d be more than happy to break my shopping fast on this gorgeous frock.

What To Wear to Graduation

graduation_intro

It’s the merry month of May and that means the school year is coming to a close and many a student will be happily accepting their diplomas.  Ok, maybe not-so happily.

While you are probably busy drinking your face off and burning your books with your friends, there is a larger task that needs to be finished (and you are going to want to do this sober): figuring out what to wear to graduation!

You may be from the “I’m wearing a gown so who cares what happens under it” school of thought, but, trust me, it matters. Photos from your graduation day will be a part of your life forever, so dressing up (not throwing up) should be on the top of your graduation morning agenda.

The proper attire for graduations/convocations is basically what you’d wear to church/temple on a holiday.  You want to look dressed up, but without toeing the line to slutsville. So, leave the sex kitten at home – no short skirts, no low-cut tops and, for the love of god, no going naked. Those gowns don’t have a lining in them, and who knows what could happen if the wind blows….

Here are some ideas for cute ensembles. Just click on the item to get some more info! Read More »

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Kate Bosworth Rocks The White

kate-bosworth-topshop-06Kate Bosworth is totally rocking the white denim. Which, in case you’ve neglected to look at ANY fashion magazine or read anything on this website in the past year and a half, is a major fashion trend. And not only is it a trend – it’s an adorably cute summer one.

I know what you’re thinking: white denim can only be pulled off by the super-skinny-I-say-I-eat-cookies-but-I-really-only-’eat’-water-I-totally-have-you-fooled! type of girls. But I’m here to tell you you’re wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

White denim can be worn by almost anyone given that you wear it the RIGHT way. I generally recommend going one size up when wearing white pants. Also, look at your body type; if your legs are short, if you are bottom heavy or if you just feel your  legs are not your best asset, don’t go for super skinny, super tight white pants. Stick to a boot cut, wide leg or flare. Also, pair it with a top that flows well with the bottom, A pattern is great because it brings the eye up. And don’t forget to keep the shoe neutral so that it blends and looks monochromatic. Black patent shoes paired with white jeans will only draw the eye down.

And lastly, please, for the love of g-d, don’t wear a thong if the fabric is thin. There is nothing worse than white pants accessorized with too much jiggle in your wiggle. It turns your cute little sashay down the street to anything butt (extra T intended).

So here is this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Kate Bosworth Rocks The White: Read More »

Swine Flu Fashion

swine-masks

The hottest thing in fashion right now: the Swine Flu mask.

But while that thing probably prevents you from catching those nasty pork germs flying through the air, I refuse to wear one. Not only do you have to spend the day breathing in your own nasty coffee breath (what, just me?), but those things are U-G-L-Y (they ain’t got no alibi…).

They also happen to ruin my perfectly (and painstakingly) straightened hair and don’t really go with the look I’m trying to pull off. Because my “look” isn’t “nurse.”

But, being that college campuses are being infiltrated by this not-so-deadly disease, I listened to my mom and jumped on the mask bandwagon. (The woman sent me a box of these things with a note that said, “Think of this as a condom for your face and don’t leave home without it! Even to the bar!”) I am not sure how I am expected to knock back a few cold ones with this thing on, but I do know that the mask is a blank canvas and is just asking to be glammed up for every occasion.

So, I bring you: Swine Flu Fashion. Who says you can’t be safe and still look totally ferosh? Read More »

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Everything’s Coming Up Vanessa Hudgens

vanessa-hudgens-skirt-flirt-12Let’s cut to the chase. Vanessa Hudgens looks cute. I mean the girl could wear a potato sack and look cute. but here’s the good news: you don’t need to be dating a man with better side swept bangs than mine in order to attain this level of cuteness. I know!! So exciting.

Anyways, Hudgens works this season’s floral trend perfectly. And it’s not easy; there are three different levels of floral patterns and if you pick the wrong one, it could be a fashion disaster. What are they?

1) The cheap, horribly tacky looking kind
2) The kind that looks like your grandmother’s couch. Or your grandmother’s floral skirt. And matching floral vest.
3) The really, really cute kind.

With color and patterns being EVERYWHERE this season it’s really easy to become desensitized to it all and, before you know it, you’re sporting a fabric that is best suited covered in plastic with a remote control and the year 1977 attached to it. So leave it to me – and, uh, V. Hudge – to help you sort through the bubbie looks to find the floral must-haves.

Here is this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Everything’s Coming Up Vanessa Hudgens.

Rock the Look: Spring Florals

picture-10.png

With spring fast approaching (it’s mid-March already?), the floral trend is once again in full swing. Although most people are fairly familiar with this repetitive trend, there are a few things to keep in mind when you’re rocking petals on your outfit.

Here are the 3 biggest tips for keeping florals feminine and sophisticated:

1. Watch the colors you choose for florals. When you pick out a floral-printed piece, make sure you have an item that will go with it and match at least one of the colors.

2. Choose floral patterns that are proportionate to your size and shape. If you are small or big, wearing a huge flower pattern will make you look more so. Also, rock florals on a part of your body you want to bring attention to, not the ones you want people to ignore!

3. To avoid looking like you just escaped from the nursing home, pick floral items in soft, flowing materials such as silk. And make sure they skim your curves but don’t look too tight. Read More »

Free Fallin’: 2008 Fall Fashion Trends

womens-2008-pre-fall.jpg

Fall is just around the corner, and soon we’ll have crisper weather, changing leaves and new fashion trends. The upcoming season is an interesting mix of sexy, classy and manly (yes, manly!) and the main color to watch for is purple.

As always, the trends come from the designers on the runway, but there are plenty of options out there for less expensive pieces that give you a similar look.H&M, Forever 21, Target and other regional mall stores (Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, etc.) all carry up-to-date trends for inexpensive prices. Express, Nordstrom and Macy’s are other, slightly more expensive, stores to check out, and I’m a huge fan of discount stores (Loehmann’s, Filene’s Basement, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, etc.).

Without further ado, here’s a list of what to grab up this season… Read More »
