Ever since we first saw pictures of Scarlett Johansson at the premiere of The Spirit back in December, we’ve been totally enamored of oversized floral prints. They’re lush, they’re gorgeous, they’re unbelievably beautiful. And somehow they never feel overly girly, even when rendered in bright pinks and purples and done in flirty silhouettes.

So after months of scouring the racks and countless websites, here are our picks for the pieces that will get you looking exactly like Miss Scarlett. Read More »

Love ‘Em or Hate ‘Em: Bows

bows-booties.jpgI don’t know about you, but the only time I like to see a bow is when it’s wrapped around a box. Preferably a small box. That is blue. With a white bow. And nice diamonds inside.

Unfortunately for me, bows seems to be everywhere this season. On shoes, on headbands, on sweaters, on jackets…on everything but gifts for me. It is like the bow has become the Carrie Bradshaw flower of 4 years ago, but not nearly as cute.

I have a feeling this look was inspired by the one and only Blair Waldorf; her looks are constantly adorned with perfectly tied bows. But for those of us who just don’t happen to have the Blair Waldorf looks or budget, bows tend to look a little…well, cheesy.

I mean, no one over the age of 3 should have a bow on their headband. And a chic suede booty should not have a messily tied bow on the side of it; that just takes away from the fierceness.

WTF is up with all these bows!? What do you think?

Really Green Living: Dorm Plants for the Blackest of Thumbs

GirlWithPlants

You know, I realized shortly after I wrote about the top five small-space animals that, well, not everyone can have animals. Now, I know that there are certain people who sneak by their ordinances and ignore the rules of the college/landlord/whatever and keep their critters regardless of what is and isn’t allowed. But for people who do want to follow the rules or having a pet right now just isn’t feasible, how about brightening up your room with a little green?

Plants do a lot more good than people give them credit for. As we all know from third grade science, they take in the gross carbon dioxide we breath and give us back lung-friendly oxygen. They also do an amazing job of cleaning the air. They can also filter pollutants in our air – stuff that come from everyday house products like plain old bug spray, spray starch, and even glue. And studies have proved that in work places that had plants had up to a 40% reduction in headaches, sour throats, and coughs. There was also an 84% increase in well-being. If you don’t like numbers, though, let me put this in laymen’s terms: plants + your dorm = happier, healthier place. Read More »
