One trend that’s been popping up over and over again in stores and on runways the last few seasons is textured clothing. This could be items with appliqués, all-over beading or sequins, added ruffles or fringe, and even (hopefully faux) fur – anything that adds dimension and interest. Feathers have always been huge in the world of fashion — and in the last few seasons, they’ve seen an especially big surge. While in the past, feathers were a glamorous touch added to hats and the collars of jackets, these days the feathers on  clothing and accessories have a more bohemian, earthy feel. Feathers and feather print adorn everything from jewelry to clothing to hair accessories, and I love the way they look with the other seventies-inspired fashion that’s popular this season.

And since feathers are literally everywhere these days, the good news is you don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune on them. Here are a few great feathered choices for just $20 or less!

So, it’s a bad week for Sarabeth. My boyfriend and I broke up since I last posted. Yeah, as you can imagine, all I want right now is music that supports my (for lack of a better term) cranky mood. I thought about dabbling in a little Avril Lavigne for a hot minute, but we all know she’s more pop than angry rock. So I went back to an old favorite for this week: She Wants Revenge’s self-titled first album.

It’s the perfect soundtrack for a break up.

About the Band:
She Wants Revenge is a musical duo from San Fernando Valley, California consisting of Justin Warfield and “Adam 12″ Bravin. While they’re pretty hard to classify into a genre, they tend to get lumped into the dark wave category. They’re still fairly unknown but have been featured in Fringe and the movie 23.

Why You Should Listen to It:
She Wants Revenge to me is something to listen to whenever you’re in a cynical mood. This album is perfect for me this week because it feels like most of their songs are about failed relationships and bad romances (no Lady Gaga reference intended). However, it’s got this dark, mysterious sound to it that makes me want to get out of my bed where I’ve been sitting with a box of cereal and just move. If you’re looking to get over someone or something or you just have some hormone issues that are making you angry at the world, turn to this album. It’s total musical therapy.

There are some trends that last season after season: leggings, floral prints, gladiator sandals, etc. Then there are those that fade away: baby doll tops, harem pants. How are you supposed to know which trends to trash and which to invest in? Luckily, fashion is already way ahead of you. Fall 2009 and Resort 2010 collections have already been released, and Spring/Summer 2010 is in the works. For most designers, Resort is a preview of what’s coming next. Therefore, the collections provide great insight into what will be hot and what will be not for summer 2010.

We scoured the Resort looks of all the top designers – from Stella McCartney to Brian Reyes to Prada – and compiled a list of summer fashion trends that aren’t going anywhere:

One shoulder tops and dresses are chic without being too revealing. Don’t wear too much jewelry with this look as it makes a statement on its own.

Exposed zippers are edgy, but a favorite of designers such as Phillip Lim and Brian Reyes. This trend definitely has a future.

Statement necklaces can glam up any basic outfit, from jeans and a tee to a silk dress.

Even though Jenny’s first order of business as queen on the TV series Gossip Girl was to nix her clique’s signature headbands, their influence remains. Bow details will still be in for summer 2010.

Which short-lived trends should you buy at cheap-chic retailers? There’s no way to be sure, but it doesn’t look like neon brights, fringe details, studs, or harem pants will be hanging around much longer.

I was always a bangs girl. And by always I mean long after it was socially acceptable to have them. I even remember the monumental day when I finally listened to my stylist and grew those bad boys out. Too bad it was like 3 months before they started showing up in fashion magazines as the new “it” hairstyle.

Now bangs are everywhere and they add so much fierceness that I just have to have them back. And I can do it…all by myself.

Cutting your own bangs seems totally scary, but if you are careful and do it right, you can have a salon look without paying the salon price. So, grab some scissors, get in front of the mirror and get chopping.

Tools:
Shears (Do not use whatever scissors you have lying around the house – those will most definitely leave you with some seriously botched bangs. Invest in a pair of hair shears for a precise cut.)

Snip Snip:
1. Make sure your hair is dry and styled how you normally wear it. If your hair is wet it will be weighed down and you will cut off more than you mean to!

2. Gather the hair in the front that you’d like to cut into bangs. This can be as thick or thin as you want. Pull back the rest of your hair and secure it in hair clips so as not to accidentally cut something you shouldn’t.

3. Comb the bangs down in the front so everything is where it should be.

4. Grab the to-be-bangs between your index and middle finger and pull down lightly, holding them away from your face.

5. Take your scissors and, pointing them up, trim in upward snips. (Do not cut straight across! That will leave you with a very unflattering straight line. By snipping upwards, you will have more texture to the bangs and they will look less severe).

6. Make your way across and check your progress. If they are too long, repeat step 5, taking off very little length. Repeat as necessary until your bangs are at the desired length.

Remember to keep those hands steady. You don’t want to end up lookin’ like this. Also, it’s better to snip too little than to hack too much, so take your time. I did and I’m super happy with the chic and fabulous results.

Most guys we know stay up late dreaming of the day they might end up in a giant orgy with beautiful women. We, however, lie awake at night dreaming of a closet full of beautiful clothes. If we had to choose two things to take to a deserted island, it would be all of our shoes and all of our bags. That’s only two things, right? We know it’s ridiculous to love inanimate objects so much (especially inanimate objects whose sole purpose is to carry things), but we can’t help it if we’re addicted to bags. Even just looking at them. And how can you not love ‘em? There are so many different shapes, styles, details and sizes.  Whether you need a bag to prepare for the walk of shame,  a cute clutch for going out, or a bag for the beach, there’s something for everyone. Regardless of what you’re carrying this season, purses are the only type of arm candy that will never let you down. So stop hunting for a man and enjoy a little purse orgy.

Anyways, Hudgens works this season’s floral trend perfectly. And it’s not easy; there are three different levels of floral patterns and if you pick the wrong one, it could be a fashion disaster. What are they?

1) The cheap, horribly tacky looking kind
2) The kind that looks like your grandmother’s couch. Or your grandmother’s floral skirt. And matching floral vest.
3) The really, really cute kind.

With color and patterns being EVERYWHERE this season it’s really easy to become desensitized to it all and, before you know it, you’re sporting a fabric that is best suited covered in plastic with a remote control and the year 1977 attached to it. So leave it to me – and, uh, V. Hudge – to help you sort through the bubbie looks to find the floral must-haves.

Skirt
Mini’s are everywhere, so it’s easy to find one that best suits your body type. A bit higher waisted with a tank tucked in is flattering on just about everyone, whereas a fitted mini, a bubble, a looser fit or an a-line depends on your body type.

Tank
You really don’t need to buy a new tank, but it’s always a good idea to have a crisp and clean one if it’s a main piece in your look (armpit stains are not the finest accessory). This one  is easy and casual and perfect for summer. And the white will only enhance that sun kissed glow of yours.

Fringe bag
This is the perfect “It totally looks like I’m a carefree hippie, but I’m really not” type bag. Not that you are trying to be something else; you are just looking for the perfect look to enhance your so-relaxed-in-the-Summer look.

Necklace
A big pendant completes adds a little extra flair and totally brings the look together.

Sandals
The gold or camel-y brown go great with this look. Easy to throw on and go! If you are going for more of an evening look, just throw on a neutral pair of pumps. Voila! Florals done oh so right.

Along with the spring fashion trends, it’s (almost) time to break out the new shoe styles and this spring shoe styles are all about fun, fun, fun. Here’s what to be on the look out for…

Details:

This season it’s all about details: embellishments, beads, fringe, ruffles, flowers, buckles, zippers, snaps, studs…Think of your shoes as a piece of art and go with something new and interesting.

Gladiators:

Gladiators are back and this season with a twist. We’re seeing more heeled gladiators and fun & interesting takes on this popular style: metallics, bright colors, and wedges.

Reptile Skins:

Reptile skins (especially snakeskin), real or faux, are being seen on shoes all over the place. Flats, stilettos and wedges; you name it, you can find it. The most important part of this trend is to go for quality – you don’t want faux skins that look cheap. Payless is not the place to go for these shoes.

Cut-Out Booties:

This spin on the popular bootie of fall and winter will make them translate to warm weather and will give you a more fun and updated look.

Ties, Laces and Straps:

Ties, laces and straps were all over the runways for this season in all different forms, from hippie-tree hugger to glamazon.  They’re not only a fun and new trend, they’re functional as well (you will never lose a shoe!).

Unique Heels:

With interesting details being such a focus this year, heels did not get overlooked. Keep your eye open for brightly colored, uniquely shaped or architectural heels.

Color:

Just like this season’s clothes, bright colors are all the rage for shoes, especially pinks and oranges.

And of course, keep your eyes open for all the styles we’ve seen season after season; wedges, slingbacks, peep toes, sky-high heels and platforms.

It’s been a long, cold winter and not only have we been forced to bundle up, chances are we’ve all been sporting dark and drab wear, as is typical in the winter months. While we still have a few weeks left of cold before we can start rockin’ those cute spring clothes, we can start adding a little pazazz to our boring winter wardrobes with little pops of color.

As is always the case in the spring, brights will be back this season, and the most popular hues this spring are hot pink/fuschia, yellows & oranges, and bright blues. Here are some great (and affordable) options to brighten up any wardrobe.

You can keep warm and look fun and cheerful in a bright cardigan. Once spring comes, you can layer them over a dress (as shown), or throw em over tanks for chilly evenings.

A fun part of spring is the chance to bust out those cute dresses once again, here are some fun & flirty options for the upcoming warm months. All can be paired with black tights to get you through the winter, and worn bare legged with sandals once the warm weather sets in.

If solid brights aren’t your style, incorporate the bright colors of spring with a floral print. Florals will be back in full force this spring and here are a couple of awesome options that play on both trends.

And if you prefer just want a smidgen of color, shoes are a great way to brighten your ensemble without being too loud.The popular fringe trend from fall/winter will be translated into spring/summer in the form of sandals.

Not into fringe? Why not bust out a cute pair of flats, a more colorful gladiator sandal, or try the latest spring shoe trend, the Huarache sandal, with a colorful twist? All are adorable, comfortable, and add the pop that your outfit needs. (You can’t really sport these with snow on the ground, but start loading up now for an instant mood lift.)

Whatever you do, the most important thing to remember is not to be afraid of color. Have a little fun with it – a little can add a whole lot of excitement to your look. Especially after a long season of blacks, greys and navy.
