I remember the day Britney and K-Fed filed for divorce.

I remember it being a shocking revelation that the two trainwrecks were parting, leaving two little mistakes in their wake.

I also remember placing bets on how long it would be before Kevin wouldn’t be able to come near Brit-Brit’s babies. I was so confident that it wouldn’t take a month, that I made a bet with my roommate at the time. K-Fed was a grungy, skeezy, pot-head dancer…there’s no way he could be a decent father! Right?

Well, my roommate won that bet, my friends, and I need to officially pay up starting today.

Britney Spears has lost custody of her kids. According to TMZ, “L.A. County Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon issued an order today, stating that Kevin Federline, the boys’ father, “is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 12:00 PM until further order of the court.”"

It’s about time. Britney is a drug addict. Plain and simple.

She likes the attention. She likes the pictures. She wants us to see her looking like a heap of garbage. Call her masochistic but she wants this for herself. She’s “troubled” y’all and its completely disgusting.

If this is what drugs do to you, physically and mentally, I am counting my lucky stars I never got mixed up in them.

Hats off to Kevin Federline for coming off sane and grounded. Maybe I’m wrong, but I just can’t hate a man who can…I don’t know…handle himself?

Britney, your looks are gone. Your marriage is gone. Your kids are gone.

Time to f*cking grow up. You’re pathetic.

Did the judge make the right decision?

The concept is simple: grab a plastic bag on your next run and pick up any trash you encounter along your route.

The eco-running movement started with Samuel Huber of Milwaukee, who hopes to encourage joggers and runners to “combine their passion with a purpose.”

Think you won’t make an impact?

According to treehugger.com, studies have shown that by cleaning up an area you remove the incentive to contribute to its mess. Not a runner? Try picking up litter while walking, kayaking, or rollerblading, Huber urges on his website.

Sure, the plastic bag that held last night’s Chinese takeout probably doesn’t go with your Juicy sweatsuit, and maybe the image of running with a bag of trash at your side horrifies you, but I’m hoping to see this trend grow, if for no other than reason that to trip less in my attempt to avoid litter.

Which makes for quite an expensive pile of trash. Add that to all your neighbors doing the same thing and you have yourself a nice little collection of goodies; a lot of it still in very good shape. Good enough, some argue, to take for themselves.

Who are those people? Well, the Freegans, of course. I was first introduced to Freegan culture while reading an article in the New York Times the other day. “Freegans are scavengers of the developed world, living off consumer waste in an effort to minimize their support of corporations and their impact on the planet, and to distance themselves from what they see as out-of-control consumerism.”

In other words, Freegans are price savvy people who decide to make another man’s trash their treasure.

And it is quite brilliant. According to the article, Freegans in New York City gather in front of the NYU dorms at the end of every school year and wait to cash in on trash the predominantly wealthy student body leaves behind. They have walked away with everything from old Yaffa blocks to working TVs and iPods.

The idea of sifting through someone else’s garbage seemed a little gross at first until I realized the possibilities. If any of the students are like me then they are throwing away perfectly good things that they just don’t want/need/care to take with them. If I have to jump into a pile of trash (or free merchandise depending how you look at it) to get a free iPod then so be it! I am a starving college graduate, damnit. I will do anything to save a dollar.

I just wish I had known about this back in my college days. It is never too late, though; I will definitely be joining those Ann Arbor Freegans when UofM get out next year. Dumpster, here I come!
