There was a time in my young life when I was super religious. Growing up Roman Catholic meant Church was always around (not to mention that my MOM taught CCD every Monday…embarass-o-rama), but right before a big surgery in junior high, I decided that I was going to seriously start getting into God.
Like most promises I make to myself, my devotion only lasted about 5 months, and these days, I find my spirituality more of the Transcendental kind.
Having said that, not being able to be home for Easter still makes me kinda sad. I freaking love chocolate eggs, and watching my Uncle cut into a giant Honeybaked Ham is one of my most favorite memories. This year, while my relatives enjoy the religious / consumer holiday, I’ll be working in an office and slaving through my graduate thesis at the same time.
Luckily the guys over at JibJab made this hilariously odd video. Nothing says Happy Easter! like chin animation.

• I’m all for protecting the sexually active…just not for 11 year olds needing to be protected. I don’t think I even knew what sex was when I was 11. (Maine Sunday Telegram)
• “Thomas had entered the store and demanded that employees kneel and bow before him because he was “Almighty God” and the “King of the United States.” King of the United States = God? Amazing. (Daily Freeman)
• It’s 920 calories, 60 grams of fat…and everything I could ever want. And this is just breakfast. (Yahoo!)
• This actually happened at my high school too. Note to pranksters: Never mess with the football field. You’ll always get screwed. (ABC 12)
• Student governments are always as*holes. Especially when it comes to studednts broadcasting homemade porn on campus television. (COED Magazine)

Today, being gay is not such a taboo. But in the utopian Christian world, being gay is still unacceptable.
As a former bible toting, God-loving Christian, I can easily say that converts are whole-heartedly welcomed and celebrated in the church. But now, there is another type of conversion, a conversion from “straight” to gay to “straight” again that is also being welcomed and accepted.
This “conversion therapy” is really behavior modification or simply put, brainwashing.
From the article on ABC News, it sounds much like the movie So You Want to Be a Cheerleader except in real life (and maybe slightly less creepy…remember those outfits??). Making someone participate in so-called straight male activities like football banter with the guys or automobile maintenance aren’t any way to change their inherent attraction to one sex or another.
James Serra attended Love In Action, the largest gay “rehab” located in Tennessee. He spent THREE YEARS in the program and is now a counselor.
Serra said that he sees homosexuality as a behavior, a choice. Although he is still attracted to men, he has not acted on his feelings for eight years. He hasn’t been with a woman either.
I hate to break it to this guy, but that isn’t conversion, that’s a really long sex drought. Read More »

Now, I like shirtless hot guys as much as the next person, but something about the Men on a Mission calendar freaks me out.
I’m not anti-religion, nor am I anti-Mormon (I actually know 3 Mormon guys, and none of them are weird or have a hankering for multiple wives), but there’s just something odd about staring lustfully at dudes who have pledged themselves to God, and have dedicated their lives to preaching pure beliefs.
According to the website, the calendar “features twelve handsome returned Mormon missionaries from across the United States who, for the first time ever, have dared to pose bare-chested.”
“These hunky young men of faith” the website goes on to say, “explode with sexuality on each calendar page.”
Besides questioning their use of the word “explode” (innuendo much?), I wonder why certain believers of the Mormon faith feel it’s so important to emphasize their sexuality?
Maybe because their religion has recently gotten a bad rap? Maybe some people see them as straight-laced and boring?
Maybe they just want to get half-naked for a good cause? Read More »

America was founded on religion, right? We hear God in the Pledge of Allegiance, we debate prayer in schools, and we swear on stacks of Bibles. But some of America’s most memorable leaders were, in fact, Atheists.
Politically it is unfavorable, socially unacceptable and statistically unbelievable, but many American heroes wore the scarlet letter. Some people claim that the founding fathers of our nation were nearly all infidels including Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Adams, Jackson and even Abraham Lincoln, stating that they had no direct belief in Christianity.
It wasn’t until the late 1950’s that “In God We Trust” became our national motto and was printed on paper currency to counteract “Godless“ communism. So if America wasn’t founded on Judeo Christian beliefs, where did these strong religious undertones come from, and why the hell is there a bible in every seedy motel in America…right beside the vibrating bed?
