Another woman accused Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain of sexual harassment in the 1990s. Cain was working as a Washington lobbyist heading the National Restaurant Association at the time. Three of his former female coworkers claim that he acted extremely inappropriately towards them, inviting them back to his apartment, commenting on their appearance, and making overtly sexual gestures. Of course, many are doubting the validity of these claims- the women have yet to come forward and identify themselves. When the news first broke at the beginning of the week, many thought Cain, the frontrunner at the time, was dunzo. Surprisingly, Cain’s lead has actually grown this week. He’s raised an additional $1.2 million in campaign funds and has strengthened poll numbers.
Dippin’ Dots has some serious money problems. ‘The Ice Cream of the Future’?? Not so much. On Thursday, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in attempt to avoid foreclosure. With $11 million in loans, there are serious doubts whether the brand can save itself. I remember the first time I had Dippin’ Dots…my life was never the same again. Well, no, not really…but I really will miss those teensy tinesy pearls of frozen ice cream if the company can’t pull itself together. Where would malls and amusement parks be without them? As much as I love being single (and I promise I do. I mean not THAT much has changed since last week), I do have to acknowledge that there are a few aspects of being single that suck. Do they outweigh the greatness that comes with having a bed all to yourself or not shaving for weeks at a time? Maybe not, but there are loads of little things that make the single girl’s life less than perfect.
1. Unreachables.
Whether it’s sunscreen for a day at the beach, aloe after a sunscreen-less day at the beach, or just lotion for those scaly days of winter, no boyfriend = no way to reach your back. And that equals sleeping on your stomach for a week as you wait anxiously for that crispy skin to peel.
2. Moving.
It’s a lot harder to find someone to help with the heavy lifting when there’s no guaranteed nookie in it for him.
3. Sick Days.
See #2, but replace “heavy lifting” with “bring me a bowl of soup.” Read More »

Got something awesome everyone needs to know about? A really rad singer? A wicked new book? Free nail polish?? Email your “The Know” ideas to Jill@collegecandy.com or tweet me and I’ll pass them along to everyone right here, every week. Make your kindergarten teacher proud and share!
Here’s the deal: we’re college kids, we’re broke, we’re cheap but we really, really, really want that manicure/massage/steak dinner/wine-tasting (insert every event/activity/tangible item or service that costs money here.
Well, my fellow students, this is our year. We chose the right year to be poor, broke, deal seeking students, because there are deals to be had everywhere. Even in your inbox.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Groupon (only the best thing on earth) launched in 2008 and has been spreading like wildfire ever since. And if they aren’t in your city yet, chances are they will be ’cause G-money is planning on expanding to tons of more cities ASAP. The reason for their fast spread? Competition seems to be beating them to the punch in other cities. And while that sucks for our pals at Groupon (we’re big, big fans, G!), it also means more sites, which, in case you’re bad at following along with this little equation, means more deals. And more deals means more things for less money. Read More »

It should be no surprise to my fellow college students that I’m broke. We all are. So it’s also no surprise that my boyfriend is too. But sometimes this little fact of life can get in the way of our relationship. It’s hard to have spectacular dates when your electric bill is past due, and you can’t really expect fancy anniversary presents when you’re digging into the couch cushions for gas money.
Sometimes this can get a bit stressful. No one likes the feeling of being in debt, it’s emotional, so naturally when the subject of money comes up in a relationship, it’s bound to start some fights. Matt and I have gotten into plenty and it’s mostly because he gets about 4 times the amount of financial aid that I do. How is it fair that we split things evenly if he’s got more to spend than me? And if he’s got more, why isn’t he offering to do more?
And so the fight begins.
The best thing that I’ve learned from those types of fights is that you should sit down, actually talk about your finances and try to find a balance. For me it was accepting the fact that I just don’t have as much money for Matt, and he agreed to divide up the expenses accordingly. I always hated asking Matt for money and it’s much easier now that we’ve sorted everything out and have an understanding. Read More »

You know that really annoying friend of yours who feels the incessant need to point out that they were the first to know about a now really popular band every. single. time. it comes on the radio?
