Olivia Wilde wore Gucci to the Cowboys and Aliens London Premiere last week and caused a stir with her sheer-paneled dress (read: side boob). The dress was mainly black with tiny white polka dots, a pretty pussy bow neckline and a belted waist. She paired the dress with simple Brian Atwood “Maniac” pumps, gorgeous red lips and simple accessories.

On first glance, I love this dress. I love the black (however, she could have pushed the boat out a little bit on colour- especially in August), I love the vintage style with the polka dots and pussy bow and I love the collar. But I’m not sure if the dress is trying to do too much. From the front it looks classy, sophisticated but maybe a little, well, boring. However, from the side, this conservative looking dress is about as conservative as Lindsay Lohan. From the side it is all about the boob. She did, unlike the catwalk version though, go for a lined skirt- the original catwalk dress had a sheer skirt.

I can’t make my mind up on this one. I love the basic premise of the vintage style dress, but I think it just tries too hard to be sexy. However, love the shoes, love the makeup and love the nails. I just think I would have preferred something more colourful and fun from the leading lady. She wore black to the US premiere and I think she could gone with something more daring.

Ana de la Reguera wore this Gucci dress to the Cowboys and Aliens Premiere on July 23rd. The dress is straight off the catwalk from the Gucci Ready to Wear Fall 2011 collection.

The problem with high fashion is that while it looks stunning on the runways, it’s not always wearable. This dress demonstrates this fact. While it is an absolutely stunning dress, in real life, it kinda looks like half a dress and a big pair of spanx.

I just don’t think this dress is very flattering. I’m sure it looks great on stick-thin catwalk models, but Ana’s got curves and while her body is stunning, I’m not sure this dress does her gorgeous figure justice. I absolutely love the top half of the dress- – chokers are really in for next season and the big, pink and purple florals are bang on trend for fall/winter.

But the bottom half I just hate. It looks like half a swimsuit topped off with a sheer cover up. And from the back it really, really looks like a swimsuit.

I’m glad she kept the look simple and didn’t over-do the accessories with a RTW dress- black peep-toe louboutins, a black clutch and simple, pretty makeup.

This one is a bit of a strange one. Great for the catwalk, not for the red carpet.

Heels have always been subject to fashion. They’ve been high, they’ve been low, they’ve been flat, wedged, kitten-ed and now: supersized. Of the many things that have eluded me (Furbies? What were we thinking?), this is one of them. Suffering from osteoarthritis, sciatica, hammertoe and Haglund’s deformity hardly qualifies as my idea of fun. So why? Why do we fall for the pretty shoe with the killer heel?

As always, scientists have the answer. There’s the standard “taller girls equals better breeding” theory, which claims that taller women are most appealing to the opposite sex. Then, there’s the “long legs equal good breeding potential” idea. And of course, the perfectly reasonable explanation that girls are simply trying to bridge the girl-guy height gap. While it’s true killer heels (and by that I mean cute and high) can boost confidence and attract the boys, they’re named killer for a reason.

I’ve already mentioned some of the conditions associated with long term heel abuse, and there’s more bad news to come: It’s irreversible. And progressive. So, as you get older, it gets worse. And worse. And while I love my shoes (girl-shoes, shoes-gir – like that’s a hard relationship to understand), I’d choose perfectly fine feet every time.

However, labels like Jimmy Choo and Gucci don’t seem to agree with me. Jimmy Choo’s website even considers a low heel as less than 2.5 inches and a high heel anything over 3.5, which makes me wonder: HOW DOES ANYBODY WALK IN THEM? And how can we trust a man – who never has to walk in our shoes, literally – to dictate what we will wear? These designers set the standard for fashion, so they are doing us all a disservice by designing stilletos that look like this.

Shoes need to shrink. Fast. The majority of shoes gracing shop shelves today are shoes on steroids. It shouldn’t be so hard to find shoes that are comfortable, cute and non-foot wrecking, but it is! We need to start a revolution for lower heels, or more comfortable options.

Our feet and health are at stake.

Some girls look really cute in this trend, but I fear that I would just look like the 7th grade version of myself when I used to be a little hefty and could only fit into my older brothers’ hand-me-down flannel shirts. Yeah, those were the days.

On the other hand, maybe this look is good for those of us doin’ the Walk of Shame from our boyfriend’s; instead of looking like a hot mess, we may look uber stylish!

4 dumb high school students were rushed to the hospital (from school!) after using an herbal supplement called Snurf. What is Snurf (besides the name you give someone who farts in the bathtub) and why didn’t I know about this organic wonder-drug?

Snurf is labeled as an herbal supplement, but it is said to have similar effects to Ecstacy.

Sounds awesome, except instead of giving the kids an awesome trip, it made them all violently ill. Oh, these high school kids these days and their dabbling in drug use. Don’t they know that buying drugs online is a terrible idea? I tried to buy a Gucci bag online once and got some cheesey knock-off instead.

Looks like we are all learning some very important lessons: you can’t trust the internet for drugs or handbags. Don’t forget it!

“When intellectuals act as clerks and students act as clients, how do college teachers differ from corporate accountants?” the professor angrily writes. “…the sedulous banality of the rich degrades teaching into a service-class preoccupation whose chief duty is preparing clients for monied careers.”

Big words (I mean, he teaches at Harvard. I think it’s a prerequisite), but what the guy is basically saying that rich students make him feel like he’s not doing anything except helping them learn how to grow up and screw the little guys. Rich kids make this guy feel like he’s nothing more than a stepping stone toward big conglomerate world domination.

He’s sort of got a point, but it’s a moot one, because…I mean…duh.

A lot of insanely rich kids grow up believing most of the human race is there to serve them. I attended undergrad at a private liberal arts college where Gucci purses and Prada shoes were perfectly in place at 8:30 in the morning, and you better believe there were some kids with major attitude in class. A degree was something they simply had to tolerate before Daddy or Mommy or Uncle Dearest would set them up in some prime position at whatever giant company their family owned. Not everyone with a bangin’ bank account is rude and power hungry, but a lot of them are, and I’m pretty sure it’s been this way since Man first realized money made people pay attention.

So sure, that Harvard professor has a point, but mostly he has a stick up his ass. It’s too bad teachers in this country make radically low wages, but I think it’s kind of common knowledge that if you teach at Harvard, there are gonna be some prime rich douches running around with pocket watches and boat shoes. The only thing those of us without yachts and elevators in our houses can do is treat these kids just like we would treat anyone else, proving to them that wads of cash doesn’t give you permission to treat others like indentured servants.

Also, Mr. Angry Professor could try to do something a little more profitable than writing book reviews for the New York Observer. Perhaps creating an underground auction for college textbooks? Or maybe opening a small store dedicated to churning out Nantucket Red pleated shorts?
