Which means, that along with the typical rites of passage of teenage-dom (such as PMS, acne and that oh-so-awkward stage of braces and Steve Madden loafers), I also had to learn how to manage that fro of mine that at 12 went from straight to curly and never looked back.
Couple that with two perms due to my pre-mature desire for curly hair (yes, they still had perms in 1998), and you’ve got yourself an expert mane-tamer. So thank me later, and de-frizz now.
Here are my top must-have products for curls, waves and fros: Read More »

[Every Saturday I am here to bring you the best beauty products, tips and ideas. Last week I helped ya out with great Halloween makeup (that you can wear year-round!). I am sure it all came in handy last night. Today I am bringing you beauty products that will change your life! I know that seems a bit dramatic, but I'm telling you: these products are revolutionary.]
Urban Decay Primer Potion ($16 sephora.com)
This little tube may look like is holds a genie, but it actually delivers with something truly magical. Just dab this colorless cream on your eyelids before you apply shadow. It will stay on for-ev-er. If you hate having your shadow all gunked up in the crease just a few hours after you put it on, this product is your holy grail. You can put on your makeup before you go to work, go out to dinner, then a club, – get in at 1am and your eyeshadow will still look fab. Also try it just underneath your bottom lash line to keep eyeliner in place. Once you try this product, you won’t be able to live without it.
DDF Glycolic Body Lotion ($42 sephora.com)
Okay so it is a little bit pricey for a body lotion. But this is not a cucumber melon type moisturizer to make you smell pretty – it’s a serious solution to a very common skin problem: Chicken Skin! Almost half of all girls have it. That red bumpy weird pimply skin on the back of your arms and legs. If you have ever had it, you know it can be embarrassing and down right gross. Believe it or not, just a quick application of this stuff on trouble areas and you will see results in just THREE DAYS. Your Chicken Skin will turn to alabaster in no time. Once you’ve achieved the desired result, you can use the lotion 3-4 times a week for maintenance. Try it for a week, and your skin will forever be addicted. Read More »

I know I’m not the only one who gets a little (okay, a lot) lax in the beauty department around finals week. Between papers, tests, and procrastination, my makeup and hair regime are the first things to go. Usually, it’s no problem—all of my fellow students look just as unkempt and ragged as I do around this time. But when it comes to date night with the BF or an early meeting at work, the last thing I need is to look as tired as I feel.
Last week, I had been up for over 24-hours straight. I finally crawled into bed two hours before I needed to be up to take a final, promising myself that I would wash my hair in the morning instead of before going to sleep. Needless to say, when the alarm clock buzzed, I hit the snooze, forgetting all about the product-overload-induced greasy hair I was sporting. By the time I got myself out of bed, I had 15 minutes to make my bus. I panicked, picturing myself walking into work after my final donning a pencil skirt, nice blouse…and a baseball cap on top of my head.
But before I ran out the door in a panic, I stopped it. My lifesaver—Batiste Dry Shampoo. Sure, it says on the bottle that it “refreshes and revitalizes hair between washes,” but I hoped it could also work its magic instead of a wash. I flipped my hair over, sprayed generously, and massaged it in, before brushing it out. The result? Well, besides smelling like clean laundry—clean-feeling, soft, hair that was full of the body it was used to. I threw the bottle in my purse just in case I needed a touch-up in between work and a date with the boyfriend, but there was no need. Read More »

The idea of putting powder in my hair made me think of our founding fathers who wore those crazy white wigs…and I was immediately turned off.
But, now I’m thinking those old dudes may have had the right idea…Aveda’s Pure Abundance Hair Potion is a truly amazing product that turned my unruly mess into a voluminous, textured, full-blown head of hair. This innovative new formula brews plant-derived ingredients into a high-performance styling tool that instantly transformed from a powder to a light, absorbent lotion.
In fact, it also increases the hair shaft’s diameter by up to 17%, which is awesome for girls like myself who have really fine hair. The potion is perfect for those mornings you’re running late for class since it contains silica, which helps absorb excess oil from scalp and hair and the potion can also be used on dry or wet locks to achieve multiple looks and styles. Not the cheapest product, but I definitely think an extra half hour in the morning is totally worth $22.00!
