If there’s one thing New York City really excels at, it’s everything Halloween. You think our residents are colorful regularly…just give them an excuse to don the spookiest, sluttiest, most creative ensembles imaginable! And you best believe everyone gets in the holiday spirit. Heck, even the crazy man who wanders through Hell’s Kitchen mumbling profanities to himself knew enough to toss on some orange and black flair.

Since we’re based out of the greatest city in the world, we get to experience a proper NYC Halloween firsthand. But for all of you who weren’t in town to watch the drunk sexy kittens and wasted zombies stumble down the streets of lower Manhattan, fear not. If you go to a party school, this is old news. It probably arrived six days ago.

If you go to a school that likes to follow the holiday calendar a little more closely, you’ve probably only celebrated two nights so far.  But even two nights is a lot for one costume. Let’s face it, you can’t squeeze into that sweaty, beer-stained, make-up covered costume one more time.

So what’s a girl to do in a Halloween costume pinch? Check out these four easy DIY costume ideas from CollegeFashion!

Ever since we were little we’ve been told not to judge people by what they wear. But doesn’t a night when you can be anything and anyone call for an exception to that rule? Doesn’t it make sense that what you choose to be on Halloween, out of the infinite options, says something about you? I think it does. So I’m going to tell you exactly what your Halloween costume says about you. Trust me, I’ve taken intro to psych and I’m really good at judging people.

The Lazy Slutty Costume

You may think I’m going to say you’re boring. If you’re going to go the slutty route, you might as well get creative about it or at least make some sort of effort. Right? So, yeah you probably kind of are a bit dull, but I get it. We’re in college, and it’s the first time in many of our lives that we can walk out wearing whatever we want. So go ahead, opt for the obvious sexy occupational get-up. I won’t judge you if you make exercising your parental freedom your priority this year. Please, just don’t pull a Karen.

The All-out Actually Scary Costume

You like to excel and out-shine. You also probably tend to go the traditional scary route, a la Cady’s gory “Ex-wife” get-up in mean girls (yes, second Mean Girls reference in the same post—sue me). I have a lot of respect for your love of Halloween. However, please remember: this holiday is supposed to be FUN. If the drama you stir up over your dress rivals a bridezilla’s, and you spend more time doing your makeup than a Real Housewife, you have a problem. Do less.

 The Group Costume

You like to roll deep when dressing up. You’re probably a member of some sports team, sorority, or really close-knit group of friends.  If you’re a little on the self-conscious side, this is the perfect way to get weird and take risks.

CAUTION: Someone always gets shafted (who ever wants to be gluttony of the seven deadly sins? We all know milkshakes don’t actually bring boys to the yard.), plus this type of costume always has the potential to come off a little cliquey .

The Celebrity Costume

You just want to be famous.

Seriously, you can be ANYTHING, and you choose to be another REAL person? Come on. However, this can actually be funny if you go for some viral video sensation or recent tabloid controversy. Plus you don’t have to work that hard to get people to recognize who you are! Let’s be honest, Halloween night there’s actually a chance you’ll be hanging off some creepy guy, making absolutely no sense as you seductively stare into someone’s camera. Congrats! You’re trashed, and halfway there to a great Courtney Stodden costume! Yay?

The Couple’s Costume

Awww. Super cute. You guys must do everything together. You two probably even sit on the same side of the table when you eat together in the dining hall (which is totally inconvenient for having an actual conversation, but makes it easier to share food… as if anyone wants to see you two Lady-and-the-Tramp that spaghetti. Gross).

I’m TOTALLY not bitter though…

 The Funny Slutty Costume

 You want to show off your sense of humor, creativity, and assets (emphasis on the “ass”). It’s always funny to take a typically asexual character, or even object, and slut it up. Interested and need inspiration? Many characters from our childhood have the potential to push the limits of propriety. You just have to think like a perv. Take Winnie the Pooh for example; he wears a red baby-Tee and NO PANTS. All you need is a red crop top, yellow or nude (even funnier) leggings, and a pair of bear ears. The only thing better than simply getting a guy to want to be your Christopher Robbin is the internal shame and conflict he’ll feel with that disturbing desire.

So, there you have it, all you’ll need to know about yourself according to your Halloween costume. And just remember, all our costumes are going to fall apart by end of the night , so it’s not the end of the world if you didn’t like what I had to say.  We will all end up attending our respective Halloween soirées simply dressed as drunk college girls anyways.

Sisterhood.

The most anticipated holiday of our college career is upon us! Halloween is not only a night of drunken debauchery, but an evening filled with slutty costumes, animal ears and creepy guys with fake mustaches. So before you get out there and take one too many shots, inevitably resulting in an evening of bad (but oh-so-hilarious the next morning when you’re debriefing with your girlfriends) choices, read on to find out just what you’re getting yourself into.

So what does his Halloween costume say about him? Allow me…

Pimp: It was cute in middle school when the boy all the girls liked walked into school with a cane and a giant purple hat, but a 21-year-old is not as endearing as a 12-year-old in a pimp costume. A college guy in a pimp outfit means that he’s desperately hoping for multiple hookups and the only way he might achieve that is by putting on an over-sized neon suit and playing the part. Either that or he just wants to hit people with his cane on the dance floor. (I dig it if it’s the latter).

Top Gun: Sweet baby Jesus this Halloween costume always gets me! For one, was Top Gun not just a classic, sexy movie? Two, a guy in aviators is a definite win. And three, though I’m fully aware the dude is sweating profusely under that jumpsuit, I’m still drawn to that onesie backside. A guy dressed as Maverick means he’s confident, an 80s fan and down for a good time. And remember, if he doesn’t have the crew-cut, he’s a keeper.

Dude in bear suit: There’s always that token guy at the party who came dressed in a bear suit. Though he may not be as steamy as Mr. Top Gun over there, he definitely has my attention. And by my attention, I really mean that I’m going to push my wasted friend onto him so that I can enjoy the sight of a skanky vampire grinding with Winnie-The-Pooh. Oh the joys of alcohol! The guy in a bear suit is the jokester of the party and it’s safe to say he likes to laugh at himself and reap the attention those big-ass bear paws are getting him.

Pro-sports player: An obvious sports fan, the pro-sports player is an easy way to go. It’s a safe costume around other dudes and what girl doesn’t love an attractive guy in a sports uniform? And let’s be real, if he’s a basketball player we get to see his biceps, if he’s a football player we get to see his ass and if he’s a baseball player we get to steal his hat on the dance floor and make him work to get it back (foolproof trick, my friends). A dude in a sports getup tells us he’s a definite guys-guy who knows how to play the ladies.

Super hero: Not only will the super hero save you from the creepy pimp trying to take advantage of your drunk ass in the corner, but he’ll be incredibly mysterious while doing so. But don’t be fooled by those plastic abs and that face mask, the super hero is a closet nerd with a love for comics and probably physics. By the way, if you see a super hero it’s always appropriate to give him a good ‘ol butt-squeeze. After all, why else would he wear such a tight costume? The Halloween super hero may not be asking for an upside-down kiss in the rain (then again, maybe after a few drinks he’ll be game), but he’s definitely down to show some moves on the dance floor before he books it home to study.

The bottom line is that guys’ costumes generally work like girl’s costumes: you can either go slutty or funny. But if the dude can achieve both, go ahead and stick by him for the night.

Yes, yes I know… Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it…But what should the rest of us wear? I’m not wild about sluttin’ it up in the freezing cold nights in October (brrr), or donning a Halloween outfit that draws immense attention to each slice of pizza I’ve eaten in the past year of my lovely flaws.

When it comes to my Halloween outfits, I strive for versatility. It has to work for the day parties ( I would not want to be caught dead in front of a professor in a skanky outfit, Halloween is a Monday, FYI) while still being sexy for the night parties. How else will I attract the goblins, ghouls, LMFAO partiers, or Old Spice guys that will be running around campus?

Of course if you’re a leotard girl then by all means, grab those bunny ears and call it a day! If not, I’ve picked some dresses from RTR. With a quick add on or two you’ll have yourself a perfect Halloween costume. No need to break the bank or spend hours and hours sewing.

Since Halloween is a little over a week away, I thought I would give you girls some last-minute Halloween costume ideas that you can put together with the stuff you probably already have! You’ll stand out from the hordes of sexy cops, sailors, and kittens, but still look totally adorable and creative!

Celebrities are notorious for going all-out on costumes for parties. So by the time  Halloween rolls around, it’s game on. They get seriously extravagant. They have money to burn so they get crazy. I love watching celebs dress up in clever costumes versus getting super slutty sexified. It’s a nice change to see that they have a sense of humor instead of just showing their assets.

I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with this year. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite celebrity Halloween costumes for your enjoyment…

There are few things I love in life more than holidays. Perhaps that is unhealthy, but I do not care. And, amid the holidays that I passionately adore, there are some that rank higher than others. Halloween is one of my favorites. I love the autumnal weather, the unnecessary amounts of chocolate, and having one day to claim “my life is a masquerade” and not be greeted with WTF looks.

I love it so much, in fact, that I have decided to write a poem. Perhaps a sonnet would have been more appropriate, considering the extent of my obsession with Halloween, but an ode was what I came up with. So, read with care and enjoy.

An Ode To Halloween

‘Twas the night before Halloween and all through my house
Not a creature was stirring, except for our mouse.
The candy was placed on our porch with care
Awaiting the children that soon would be there.

My roommates were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of jagerbombs danced in their heads.
With my costume unfinished and I in my (thinking) cap,
I just couldn’t settle my brains for a nighttime nap.

When out on the porch there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away to my door I flew like a flash,
Grabbed the doorknob and threw open the hatch.

The crisp autumn air grabbed at my lungs,
And revived a spirit that made me feel young.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But eight drunken boys, dressed as Santa’s reindeer.

When they spotted me, so lively and quick,
They scurried away, like a bunch of chicks.
More rapid than eagles, the boys, they all ran.
Irritated, I thought, “Must be freshmen.”

I went back to my room, candy bowl in hand,
And snacked while I prayed I would never look like them.
Their costumes sucked, I hoped that mine
Would never be so grossly benign.

Suddenly an idea sprang in my head.
I ran to my desk and worked with some thread.
Feverishly I sewed, all through the night
Until my masterpiece was perfectly right.

As we got ready for the party, eyelashes in place
My roommates and I looked totally replaced
By wig-wearing characters with high, high shoes
With our costumes, there was no way to lose.

We arrived at the party and suddenly I saw
The most handsome Ewok, he had no flaws.
His hair was styled in just the right way
And looked at me like his sight was X-ray.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with vodka and ash soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And I fell in love when he opened his Northface backpack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His bag was stocked with 4 Lokos and Beer,
Not to mention bags of Candy… Halloween Cheer!

The stump of a cig he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a devilish face and a far from round belly,
That was so atypical of college boys—who usually packed jelly.

His smoking bothered me, but he was a cute nonetheless
And I laughed as we flirted, keeping me from becoming a drunken mess.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Pouring and mixing for all with a smirk.
The music was loud, the spirit was right.
College Halloween was an awesome sight.

But my Ewok got too drunk, so I gave my team a whistle,
And away we all flew like the down of a thistle.
Instead of ordering Domino’s for a late snack,
We munched on candy from my Ewok’s back.

As we sat on our porch, laughing about the bash
We listened, on our iPod player, to Monster Mash.
We eventually went inside, but shouted before out of sight
“Happy Halloween to all, and to all a good-night!”
