It’s Time To Get Into The Halloween Spirit!

Getting into the Halloween spirit means more than figuring out the most creative way to look slutty and drinking the night away while dancing with a giant penis. Don’t get me wrong, do all that too, but in the final week until All Hallow’s Eve, make sure take part in other festive activities in honor of the best holiday of the YEAR.

Pumpkin picking and carving are not just for kids and their families. I’ve seen some pretty great pumpkins glowing from dorm room windows. For instance, the person who carved this Patrick Swayze memorial pumpkin is definitely getting lucky on Halloween night by glow of Patrick’s face. Pumpkin carving is a fun group activity and just another reason to sip a few cocktails on a weeknight. Oh, and you can’t forget that picking a pumpkin means having something to throw at your ex-boyfriend’s door come mischief night. Do you know how long it takes clean up pumpkin goo? That’ll show him.

After you have your fair share of mischief, hide out at the nearest movie theater and take in a showing of The House of the Devil, releasing on Oct. 30th. Described as a “wet dream for horror fans,” you may or may not leave the theater screaming, in tears and donning some wet undies. Nothing like a mild heart attack to get you in the Halloween spirit. Halloween Treats That are Better Than Candy

candy_corn.jpgYou don’t have to fill a plastic pumpkin with candy corn to make the most out of fall’s best holiday. Even if the pumpkins are the best. things. on. earth. Halloween comes chock full of goodies, many of which won’t send you into a diabetic coma or give you a muffin top in your cheap vinyl pirate hooker costume. We’re less than two weeks away from Halloween, and I know I’m looking forward to way better treats than fun-sized Milky Way bars.

1. Horror Movie Overload

As a horror movie fanatic, this is my favorite time of the cable television year. On any given day of the week, you’ll find yourself choosing between installments of Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street. Scour the TV Guide, and you’ll probably also find lesser-known thrillers like The People Under the Stairs, or a wide selection of Steven King novel-turned-creepy-classics.

This is also the time of year for new horror flicks to hit the cinemas. I’m tempted to shell out $10 for Saw V, which hits theaters October 24. I also have to admit I’m tempted to check out The Haunting of Molly Hartley, which comes out on Halloween, and not just because of Chace Crawford.

2. The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Special

Can you believe that this year’s Simpsons Halloween Special will be number 19?!? Though we have to wait until November 2 to see ToH XIX, you can bet the other 18 episodes will be running in syndication every weeknight for the next couple of weeks. This year’s episode will supposedly feature spoofs of Transformers and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (another Halloween treat that deserves an honorable mention on this list). The opening credits are also rumored to have strong political ties, but I’d rather not spoil the surprise. If the blood and gore of horror flicks gross you out, you can still appreciate the hilarious parodies that The Simpsons bring us every year. Read More »

Fall in Love With Fall Date Ideas

fall-date.jpgFor some reason, spring earned this rep for being the season of love, with summer at a close second (and I think that Grease had a much heavier hand in that than the fact that it’s wedding season). Winter gets credit for hot chocolate and snuggling and sleigh rides (which is bullsh*t, because I have never seen the romantic side of frost bite, dry skin and goose bump-induced leg hair). But fall—sweet beautiful autumn – is where it’s at, people.

The sky is bluer than ever; the trees are gorgeously scarlet, olive and burnt sienna (a shout out to my fave Crayola!); cute boys are tackling each other, shirtless in the late afternoons all in the name of football. Your hair is looking f*cking awesome thanks to lower humidity levels. What better time to fall in love, or be in love?

Whether your just celebrating your fab relationship or enjoying the company of that cute guy you just met in Stats, take this fall semester to ‘fall’ in love with these seasonal date ideas. (Ok I’ll stop being obnoxiously cheesy now.) Read More »
