The Jersey Shore Goes Glam?

You can take the girl outta Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey outta the girl.

Unless you’re Harper’s Bazaar, that is.

Yup, these Guidettes have come a long way from Seaside Heights and have been everywhere from The View to YouTube, always donning Ed Hardy’s finest. Now they’re hitting the newstands.

No, not in Playboy (…yet). A very bold (and, based on the above photo, talented) team at Harper’s Bazaar, the highest of high fashion magazines, has stripped Sammi of her shredded tanks, jorts and scoul; J-Woww of her boob-baring excuses for shirts; and Snooki of her fuzzy slippers; and put these Jersey girls in some serious haute couture. Stop Exploiting Plus Size Women, Fashion Magazines!

Lately, every fashion magazine on the newsstands has had some variation of a plus size model photo spread. Editors claim to be celebrating the real American woman, but we know it’s just a feeble attempt to boost sales and save their dying businesses.

Being a plus sized girl myself, I’m torn on the whole trend. On the one hand, it’s great to see women with a little meat on their bones (or any meat on their bones, for that matter) displayed so beautifully across the pages of my favorite fashion mags. It’s refreshing to finally be able to look at a fashion spread and see how clothing really looks on real people. People like me.

On the other hand, though, focusing entire spreads and features on plus sized women seems a little exploitative. It’s as if the magazines are saying, “See! We like fat people, too!” And if their goal, as they state, is to change the way we view beauty and really represent the real women living and shopping in this country, they’re going about it all wrong. Have you ever bought a bag for future use? As in “I have no clue what I’m going to wear this with or where but I have to have it!”? That’s how I feel about this Jessica McClintock Stone Frame Pleated Clutch.

This pleated satin clutch is available in a gorgeous melon-y orange tone, a regal purple hue, a rich chocolate brown and black, and each color is absolutely lovely. The clutch has gold-rimmed sparkling stones across the top which jazz it up even more. It’s so petite and pretty – don’t you feel like getting dressed up just looking at it? Apparently the name of one of the new favorite ‘It bag’ brands of the stars doesn’t begin with an F, G or LV. And it’s not plastered with logos either. What it is covered in is fringe, this year’s throwback trend made current and oh-so-haute! And the brand is J.J. Winters!

Celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Haylie Duff, Paris Hilton and Ashley Tisdale have been flocking to the brand’s bohemian-style bags. In particular they love the J.J Winters Suede Fringe Bag in shades of Camel, Grey and Purple. But if the $400+ price tag isn’t your thing, shop these just-as-cute but way less-expensive fringed options: Read More »

Sophia Bush hosted the LeSportsac 35th Anniversary Celebration in NYC this past week. I’ve always like LeSportsac bags, especially the collaboration collection they did with Gwen Stefani a few years ago.

For the 35th anniversary, the brand revisited some vintage classics from 1974 and modernized them for 2009, but still at affordable price points. Prices range from $28-178.

I particularly love the bag Sophia’s posing with – the Posey Shimmer Lexie Tech Tote. The patent-finish orange nylon tote features a spring clasp on the sides and contrast gold banding throughout. The double rolled handles measure a perfect 7″ and there is a two-way zipper closure at the divided main compartment.

The new Gucci Large Jockey Python Hobo Bag is sure to be a hit amongst fashionistas. Celebs love Gucci, python, and typically anything expensive and exclusive! The hobo is made of genuine python in a cool black color. Sturdy leather trim and signature brass Gucci horsebit studs complete the sleek look. Sure it’s an amazing bag but don’t we all have a better way to spend $3,295? So what’s a recessionista to do?
