The race for the 2012 Republican presidential candidacy is on! There have been murmurings for a while, but this week, a few politicians made things official. Firstly, Mike Huckabee, considered a far right-wing front-runner, bowed out of the race saying that “all the factors say go, but my heart says no” (do you think he meant to rhyme?) Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich officially announced his candidacy, as did Ron Paul. Mitt Romney, though, is still considered the man to beat.
The head of the International Monetary Fund has been accused of sexually assaulting a maid at the hotel he was staying at in New York City on Saturday. Dominique Strauss-Kahn is not someone you probably know by name (I definitely didn’t), but his high profile status as leader of the IMF makes the allegations headline news. The IMF (not gonna lie, definitely just Googled this) is an organization with almost 200 member countries that works to stabilize exchange rates and improve the global economy. So, yeah, Strauss-Kahn is a big deal- if the $3,000-a-night suite he was staying in wasn’t evidence enough.
