Hot or Hot Mess: HP Cast at the London Premier

[Like it or not, we all judge people every day. Especially when it comes to their fashion choices. From the girl with the too-short skirt for class to the old guy who insists on wearing short shorts and doing butterfly stretches at the gym (yeah, try to get that visual out of your head), it's impossible not to form an opinion. And now we're gonna share those opinions with the world. Every week, I'll be highlighting a celebrity look that I may love/hate/not understand and see what you, my college fashionistas, think about it. So put on your Joan Rivers fashion cap (which is undoubtedly made out of all the skin she's had nipped and tucked over the years) and let it all out.]

The stars were out for the premiere of the final Harry Potter movie in London last week, the there was a mix of good, bad and Helena Bonham Carter.

The dress of the night has to go to Emma Watson, who wore a stunning, strapless Oscar de la Renta dress. The dress had a silvery detailed bodice and incredible tulle skirt. She accessorized with simple earrings and a cocktail ring. The whole look was sophisticated and stylish, but also exciting and fun. Read More »

2011 Golden Globes Fashion: The Good, The Bad and The WTF [GALLERY]

Can I get some Red Bull up in here? I’m majorly struggling right now. It’s like the crash that comes after eating a bag of Sour Patch Kids, only instead of sugar I was hopped up on sequins and cleavage and Brad Pitt’s sunglasses.

Yes, you know I’m talking about the glamour that was the Golden Globe’s Red Carpet.

Of course there are always lots of entertaining moments in the award show itself (Ricky Gervais was hosting, after all), but like most ladies with an eye for fashion, the true highlight of the show comes before it even starts. And last night’s show before the show did not disappoint. From the stunning shoes (I’m looking at your hidden feet, Olivia Wilde!) to the bright hues (word to your mother, Angelina) to the style doo doos (how else do you describe Christina Aguilera’s ‘fit?), the 2011 Golden Globes red carpet had me on the edge of my futon.

So after 3 hours of acceptance speeches during which I did some careful consideration (and drank a few glasses of Franzia), I bring you the best dressed, worst dressed, most WTF dressed and, just for fun, the sexiest men of the 2011 Golden Globes.

Enjoy. Read More »

Our Golden Globe Predictions

It’s January, so you know what that means in Hollywood – it’s awards season! Kicking off the big ones is the Golden Globes, airing THIS Sunday, Jan. 16, and I for one cannot WAIT!

The Golden Globes merge television and movie awards and are sure to bring out some truly fabulous celebs. It’s (almost) goes without saying that this is the best awards show out there.  But we all know what’s most important (besides the fashion) and that’s not who’s presenting: it’s who will be taking home the awards. Which movie will be crowned Best Drama or Best Comedy? Which actress impressed everyone the most? Who will make the drunkest acceptance speech?

So, with no further ado, here are my predictions on who will most likely win and who SHOULD win the biggest categories of the night:

The CC Weekly Weigh In: Playing For the Other Team

meganfox-bra.jpgI like boys. A lot. But that doesn’t mean I can’t admire a lady from time to time. Even though I want to snuggle up with a boy at the end of the night (or afternoon), I still find myself developing crushes on some ladies. Not “OMG I wanna do you right now” crushes, but more like “If I were a guy, you would totally be my #1″ sorta things.

And I’m not alone. Unlike men who get weird just brushing against another dude, we ladies are able to admire and look at (and even makeout with) other girls without a problem. We can talk about another girl’s great boobs, or how hot she looks in a dress without thinking twice. Lots of girls have girl crushes, so this week I asked the CollegeCandy writers which lady could get them to switch teams.

And I gotta say – we have really good taste.

Erica – Kent State: Helena Bonham Carter, but only as her character Marla Singer from Fight Club. Yum.

Elisabeth – UA Huntsville: Eliza Dushku. She rocked on Tru Calling.

S.E. – Fordham: Megan Fox. ‘Nuff said.

Lauren – University of Michigan: Amy Poehler. I have a thing for funny girls. And maybe I could use her to get to Will Arnett?

Sarah – East Carolina University: Milla Jovovich. She kicks ass and looks fantastic doing it. Read More »

CollegeCandy’s Top 10 Films of 2008

walle1.jpgIf you missed the following films last year, the good news is that many of them are on DVD already, or will be soon. So check out what you missed at the cinema, add it your Netflix Queue, and have a 2008 movie night before you get backed up with the upcoming flicks of 2009!

1. The Dark Knight.

It’s a sad irony that Heath Ledger steals the show, after the film got so much publicity following the young actor’s death. Heath Ledger’s death made millions of people flock to the movie, but the truth is, it’s actually effing good. Ledger looks like a lock for a posthumous Oscar as well. Only time will tell.

2. Wall-E

Tell me you weren’t rooting for Wall-E and Eve, and I’ll tell you you have no soul. This cute, witty, futuristic animated tale was a favorite among audiences of all ages.

3. Cloverfield

With an innovative marketing strategy – remember those bizarre commercials guised as pleading cable interruptions? Cloverfield kept us on the edge of our seats and brought the “monster movie” genre to another level with its documentary-style cinematic techniques. Think Godzilla meets Blair Witch.

4. Gone Baby Gone

Ben Affleck’s latest screenplay, starring brother Casey Affleck, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris has all the makings of a blockbuster: A-list author, lustworthy lead, and two powerhouse Hollywood phenoms. Did I mention the suspense and the action? Read More »
