What’s Next For the Harry Potter Cast?

The Harry Potter cast has been all booked up for the past, like, ten years or something, what with all the broom-flying and Voldemort-chasing they’ve been doing. Hermione (…I mean Emma Watson) even had to put college on hold for the series. But after next week, it’s all over. No more Harry Potter movies. Ever.

So where can we expect to see them next? Will they move on to bigger and better things (not possible), or will they drop off the face of the planet, leaving us to believe they really ARE wizards and had to hurry back to Hogsmeade after finishing with all of this Hollywood shiz? Here are our predictions on what to expect from the cast.

Emma Watson is “Taking Some Time Off” from Brown

According to our friends over at PopEater, Emma Watson is taking some time off from Brown to pursue her professional and acting projects. And I for one, am really bothered by the news.

Why, you ask, do I care if Emma Watson pursues a bachelor’s degree at Brown University? Well, because Emma Watson is one of the few female celebrities that I actually like, you know, as a person, as a woman, and not just as a female icon for sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I had high hopes for our girl Emma with her short spunky hair and her witty retorts. Not only did she portray one of my favorite book characters ever, but she almost seemed like a genuinely nice person, and more than that, she seemed liked a genuinely normal girl. (Despite the acting career, the trust fund, and the millions of dollars she makes per Harry Potter movie.)

But now Emma Watson is taking some time off school to focus on her career and that just messes with my mind. I get it; balancing school with her celebrity lifestyle is difficult, and I understand that when she says she’ll be back at Brown in a few semesters she might actually be back at Brown in a few semesters. But I just can’t help but be a little…disappointed. Which probably isn’t entirely fair, but it’s still true.

Harry Potter Prep: What You Need to Know Before You Head to the Premiere

Tomorrow, November 19th, 2010, will be the day that changes everything. (Or tonight at midnight if you’re me…)

Okay, well maybe not everything. But it’s still a pretty important day. It’s the day of the Harry Potter premiere. It’s the day that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I hits theaters. It’s the day that I take the tickets I bought 3 months ago and head to the movies, anxious and eager to see exactly what they’ve done with scenes I’ve been envisioning on my own for years now. It’s the day my friends roll their eyes at the fact that I’m majorly geeking out over Harry Potter and get to listen to my constant commentary throughout the movie. (That’s not how it happened. Seriously? WHAT. DID . THEY. DO?)  It’s the day we’ve all I’ve been waiting for.

But on the off-chance that not everyone is quite as obsessed with Harry Potter as I am, CollegeCandy has your back. I’m here to provide you with all the vital information you may have forgotten about the world of Harry Potter. I’m here to remind you where we left off and what lies ahead.  So here’s what you need to know.

First off,  Dumbledore is dead.

That’s right, dead. For real. There will be no magical resurrections come the start of the seventh movie. Dumbledore is dead. And Snape is the one who killed him. Snape. Who’s evil now.  Or is he? Harry, Ron, and Hermione always suspected that their potions professor was better suited for the dark arts. But he was a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and one of Dumbledore’s most trusted confidants. Dumbledore trusted him. He was sure Snape was on his side. But he killed him. But Dumbledore didn’t seem the least bit shocked when Snape raised his wand to him. Interesting, very interesting. Was Dumbledore not sharing all of his secrets?  Most definitely.

But you’ll find out more about that once Deathly Hallows starts getting good. For now, let’s focus on what the dearly departed Dumbledore did share with Harry. And that would be his search for the horcruxes.

Harry Potter Then and Now [GALLERY]

As an avid Harry Potter fan (god, I wish they had HP classes at my school!) I feel like I’ve grown up alongside Harry, Hermione and Ron, both the characters in the books and the actors who play them in the movies.

I started reading the books when I was 10 years old – the same age Harry Potter was at the start of the Philosopher’s Stone. Together, Harry, Hermione, Ron and I had our first kisses, went through our angsty tween years and battled the Dark Arts. Or, you know, just those first two things.

It’s been 9 years since the first installment of Harry Potter was released and just as I’ve grown up and blossomed (and finally exited my very long awkward stage), so has the HP cast. And I don’t know how they did it, but every. single. one of them. has turned out gorgeous. Yes, even Dudley.

So in honor of the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (THIS FRIDAY!), let’s jump into the pensieve take a look back at the cast of Harry Potter then… and now. Read More »

The Weekly Ten: Best Fictional BFFs

This week, as I caught up on my favorite fall shows (and watched some Sex and the City reruns) I couldn’t help but notice a running trend: female friendships. Sure some shows were about shopping (or singing while shopping) and some were about saving lives, but at the heart of it all, were some pretty cool chicks.

The kind of best friends every girl wishes she had.
The kind of best friends that will risk their lives to help you, the kind that will stand by you through anything, the kind of best friends that will…let you raid their closet. (Hey! It’s the little things that matter.)

These girls aren’t real, but we all wish they were. So, in my first ever Weekly Ten (yeah, I’m new so get used to me!) I’ve decided to pay tribute to what I consider to be some of the best fictional BFFs out there, past and present. Read More »

I Love Your Style: Emma Watson

Who or what inspires your style? Many of us use celebrities (like Sarah Silverman) or movie characters (like Lux Lisbon) as style inspiration even though, most of the time, they are being dressed from head to toe by the best stylists. Which we don’t have. And sometimes it’s damn near impossible to work their Hollywood looks into our not-so-Hollywood lives. I’ve made it my mission to tap into the mind of a fashion stylist and show you how to take your style inspiration – whatever it may be – and make it more you!

Emma Watson isn’t just that charming Brit that plays that one chick in that Harry Potter flick.  She’s grown before our eyes from the awkward 11-year-old Hermione to the classy, well-mannered face of Burberry with a personal style that, thankfully, doesn’t resemble anything you’d see in the halls of Hogwarts.

Emma didn’t always have that prep-school drop-out look she’s known for now.  In some older pictures during the early 2000′s, she dressed like any average 11-year-old – a little but awkward and unsure, but still a little experimental.  But as time went on, she experimented more and more, discovering what worked and what she liked and what expressed her (not Hermione’s) personality best.

And, like magic, she succeeded and has become a force to be reckoned with, both while walking the red carpet and walking to class.  Emma Watson’s style is classy and refined, with the occasional edgy rocker moments thrown in.

I love Emma’s style because it evolved.  She tried out trends, pushed the envelope and made some mistakes. It took some time but, as we have all seen, it most definitely paid off. Today designers are courting her, photographers are hounding her and college girls from the Midwest are trying to pull together outfits to look just like her. Read More »

The Weekly Ten: Worst Halloween Costumes. Ever.

devil and angel

Real creative, ladies.

Every week I make a list of ten things. Whether it’s ten words/phrases that piss me off or my fave leading ladies, you can count on me to countdown every Monday the same way you can count on Jon Gosselin to be an epic Douche Bigalow.

In the spirit of the season and my favorite holiday of all time, I’ve decided to countdown the ten worst Halloween costumes imaginable.

As a dedicated Halloween goer-over-the-topper, my mother never once let me buy my costume. In fact, to this day, I can admit that I’ve only had one store-bought costume as of last year: Whoremione Granger. That’s it. And I still regret it to this day. Guilty of some of the below? Check out CollegeCandy’s better alternatives.

10. The slutty bumblebee
Firstly, horizontal stripes are a no-no, no matter how much of a stick you are. Secondly, a slutty bug? Really? Of all things? Thirdly, confession: bees are actually the scariest thing in the world to me, so frankly it just upsets me to see them in any form. Especially large, at risk for nipple slips and holding a beer.

9. Naughty School Girl
Admittedly, I am guilty of this one. Looking back, I’m ashamed that I just slapped on my old uniform and passed off what I used to wear daily as a “costume.” Apologies, Sister Pat.

8. “I’m Drunk”
You ask, “What are you supposed to be?” Usually a bro answers with this. Holding a red solo cup. Real creative. Read More »

Girl Crush: Emma Watson

emma-watson-12060701[There are some women out there that we just can’t get out of our minds. No, we aren’t switching teams - yet - but we do have some serious crushes on some pretty fierce females. These ladies are all special in their own right and we aren’t ashamed to tell the world we love them.]

As a self-proclaimed Harry Potter nerd, I’m super excited for the next movie to be released in July.  After watching all the trailers multiple times, (as well as recent TV viewing of the older movies), one of the actors has me crushing.  While I was always drawn to Harry Potter in the books, in the movies it’s Hermione, played by the fabulous Emma Watson, that caught my eye.

Emma Watson was cast as Hermione at the ripe age of 9 and has really grown up (into one hot tamale) in the spotlight. Unlike her other under-20 peers, though, she’s grown up right. The worst things we’ve seen of her are some awkward fashion choices and picture of her drinking a beer; not her lady parts sticking out under a skirt, or her doing some illegal drugs in a bathroom.

So Emma is more than deserving of her position at #15 on the Forbes 20 Top Earning Young Superstars in 2007. The girl is worth $16 million!

Like our many other girl crushes, Emma has brains that could rival those of the character that made her famous.  It’s reported that she’s going to take an acting hiatus after Harry Potter wraps and will either be going to Yale or Brown in the fall.  Her backup plan is to be an artist, though with all that money in the bank and the rumors that she’s going to be the next face of Chanel, I’m not sure she needs a backup plan.

But back to why I love her. Read More »
