Amanda Seifried stepped out on the red carpet for the In Time premiere in London in a blue shorts and blazer combo from H&M.

Yes, that H&M.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I mean, I think the look is killer (many people are sure to disagree with me), but I also think wow, if I was rich and famous enough to be prancing around on the red carpet, I’m not sure H&M would be my first choice for my attire. But I do like this outfit, purely because it’s different, it’s unconventional. It’s not a huge pouffy ball-gown, but it is a statement outfit. Bright blue with short shorts, and of course, heels.

The blazer and shorts are from the H&M Eco-conscious range for their Spring 2012 line and is due to arrive in store in April 2012. Amanda paired it with a black blouse and Sergio Rossi pumps. Her hair was in pretty waves, with a smokey eye and pink lips.

I am really glad to see some stunning high street on the catwalk, and I guess in the economic climate, it’s good to see celebrities endorsing reasonably-priced brands and showing their clothes can be just as fantastic at a fraction of designer.

I’m going to be honest with you — my first thought after watching that Shopaholic film was ‘so this means if I got a credit card, I could have amazing clothes like that too?’

Definitely not the point, as every person I shared my revelation with was quick to point out. But what’s a shopaholic on a limited budget to do? Now that it’s closing in on September (I’m sorry for reminding you!), I’m starting to add some Fall basics to my wardrobe. Denim shirts had a huge resurgence last year and are now a staple in every fashionista’s closet. However, most people are stumped as to how to wear them. I found one on sale at H&M that’s perfect for experimentation!

H&M is one of my favorite stores ever. They stay on trend, but also make clothes at super affordable prices. You can pick up a crazy item there with the intent of only wearing it once because they cost so little. Denim shirts usually make people recall images of cowboys and the wild west. But, they can be an amazing piece to base an outfit around!

Let’s start with daytime:

A fun pair of floral shorts is a surprising option for bottoms, but so much fun! The denim shirt looks great with the combo of a black background and pink roses. A pair of classic sneakers, like Keds, in a fun shade compliment the shorts’ pattern. I kept the purse in a neutral color, and also large enough to fit everything for a day out with your girls. The rope-detail handles actually match the nautical-themed charm bracelet! Top it off with a grey fedora to expand the color palette and a black pair of sunnies.

And now the challenge: nighttime!

A sequin skirt is a great starting place. It instantly adds glam and out-does the casual nature of the denim shirt. Throw on a loose, jersey cardigan and a pair of simple, black peeptoe pumps. The orange and gold clutch is a gorgeous addition and adds more color to the outfit. Leave the shirt slightly undone (but don’t flash any nip!) and throw on a statement pendant. And you’re ready for drinks with your gals!

Each week, I’m going to show you a fashionable, yet functional purse for the college crowd and let you know why you absolutely need it! I apologize ahead of time to your bank account.]

Now that it is officially August, I’m finding myself searching for transition pieces and that includes purses. Long gone are the days of straw totes; now I’m looking for heavier bags, ones that preferably fit my notebooks and textbooks! Even though I live about 6 hours away from the nearest location, I always try to hit up H&M for a big back to school splurge before September. Even though I only own one purse from them (shocking!) I took a careful look through their accessory section and came up with this little gem!

First a complaint. One thing bugs me about H&M: they never take the time to name anything! I understand that with such low prices (for such amazing swag), I shouldn’t expect everything to be named, but maybe naming some purses is a place to start H&M! Anyways, rant over, onto the loveliness that is this nameless satchel.

Coming in 4 lovely shades that work perfectly for late summer and early fall, this satchel measures in at 18′ L x 11″ H. It’s the perfect size for a day bag – one that you need to pack your school or work essentials in, as well as your wallet, keys, makeup bag, etc. Besides being roomy, there are 2 inner slip pockets and one with a zipper, so their is plenty of opportunity for organization. There are also 2 options for carrying (my favourite!), with one long, detachable strap or 2 shorter straps.

Although the black and brown versions are lovely and super versatile, my favourites are the dusty pink and blue. They are both delicate and muted, so they won’t be the center of attention in any outfit. The washed out shades are great for moving into fall and will serve you well even into winter. Seriously, you can pair both of these colours with your winter gear without worry!

The whole shape and detail of the bag is very reminiscent of a designer classic, the Givenchy Nightengale, meaning you will be super chic for super cheap! This H&M Satchel will only cost you about $25, which is easy to part with considering the length of time you can sport this purse for.
