Hot or Hot Mess: Nicole Richie at Lionel Richie & Friends Concert
In my opinion, Nicole Richie has amazing style and can pretty much pull off anything. I think she’s the master at accessories (apparently she has more Chanel bags than should be allowed by law) and always looks polished.
Hilary Swank in Ferragamo [Hot or Hot Mess]
Hilary Swank (now there’s someone I haven’t thought about for a while) stepped out in Paris in this purple Ferragamo frock. The outfit may or may not have caused a mini-battle among my friends. Some of my girls were digging it—but I can’t say I’m into the ensemble.

Hot or Hot Mess: Jennifer Lawrence at Hunger Games Screening
The much-anticipated Katniss stepped out in this Calvin Klein number in New York City at a screening of The Hunger Games. At first glance I was mildly obsessed with this dress—I love the shape, the pleats and it is super flattering on her legs. But holy moly, there’s a whole lotta cleavage which I am not entirely sure is necessary (or classy).
Hot or Hot Mess: Sarah Jessica Parker in LV
Sarah Jessica Parker stepped out in Paris for the Vuitton show in this little Louis Vuitton throwback number. I am all for recycling fashion (this look is supposedly from 2005) but there is something about this frock that doesn’t add up for me.
Hot or Hot Mess: Katy Perry at Miu Miu
There is just a whole lot going on in this outfit. In attendance at the Miu Miu show, Katy Perry paired a pink pleated dress with “flamed” Prada shoes and, of course, an electric blue pony tail.
Hot or Hot Mess: Stacy Keibler at the Oscars
Okay, I think I might be the only person bold enough to claim I don’t like this dress right now. But I really (really) don’t, and the people watching the Oscars red carpet with me weren’t digging it either. And then the fashion blogs began exploding with virtual applause for this Marchesa number.
Hot or Hot Mess: Rihanna at BRIT awards
Rihanna stepped out in Londontown in this sequin number. Rocking French powerhouse Givenchy, Rihanna chose to pair it with long leather gloves and some ankle strap heels. I hate that this is the second time I’m questioning Rihanna’s look, but the girl takes so many awesome fashion risks that she constantly finds herself in the hot or hot mess category.

Ok, so maybe I’m a little extra heated because she’s apparently engaged to my dream man, but I think that Biel could do a lot better than this lacey frock by Elie Saab. It was almost as though she was flaunting her romantic news (even though I can’t spy a ring or JT!) by wearing a wedding gown-like dress.

Rihanna wore this Tom Ford dress to a New Year’s Eve party in Miami. At first glance I was all about the look. I think the sleeves are awesome, love the hemline and the fact that it’s a bit longer, and even think the sash is pretty cute (normally I don’t do the whole bow thing). Here I was, thinking the outfit was pretty rocking and awesome for New Year’s… And then I noticed her nipple ring.

I would like to start with a disclaimer. One, I have only been writing this column since June, so I cannot account for any hot messes prior to this time. And two, hey, there are a lot of celebrity hot messes out there. I have only been able to criticize a tiny percentage of them.
