Should We Be Jailed for Dumb Decisions?

sexting

A 14-year-old New Jersey girl was arrested after posting nude pictures of herself on her Myspace profile in an attempt to tease her boyfriend. The charge? Distributing child pornography.

Three Pennsylvania teens face similar charges after sending some seriously dirty texts.

Yikes! I’ve been known to send what I suppose some could classify as a dirty text every now and then, and while it’s not illegal being I am an adult who can do whatever she pleases with her unlimited text plan, I can’t help but sympathize with these girls.

We all make stupid decisions when we’re in love…or lust. Read More »

Money Matters: Summer Jobs, Anyone?

summer_job_Intro

You’re so busy with classes (and a rockin’ social life), you can’t seem to get ahead in the finance field.  Sure, summer might be a great time to soak up some sun for those college students who are lucky enough NOT to be struggling with student loans, car payments, credit card bills, etc.  But for a large majority of us, summer is the time to keep working our asses off… and get paid.

If you’re stressing about debt, never fear– summer is just around the corner.  And if you act now, chances are, you can secure a summer job so you’ll be ready to pay for books, bar tabs, and fall semester housing come August.  The question is, where should you look? Read More »

Technology Ruins Relationships

technology1

As we’ve all heard by now, John Mayer and Jen Aniston have (again) called it quits.  The major gossip magazines originally cited disagreements and busy work schedules as the reasons behind the split, but more recent reports have explained what the REAL reason behind the breakup might be: John’s obsessive Twittering.

Now, as anyone who follows him on Twitter knows, John Mayer is a bit of a Twitter addict—he updates his page almost hourly, sometimes even multiple times an hour.  But is that any reason to dump someone?  Apparently, according to Aniston, it is.  He claimed that he didn’t have any time for her, yet somehow still had time to update Twitter.  Ok, so that’s not cool: if a guy is putting more effort into an internet addiction than into your relationship, there’s definitely a problem there.

And the more I think about it, there’s definitely a lot of other annoying internet habits that could be relationship red flags. Read More »

I’m Torn: Twitter

twitterbaiting-1[Life isn’t black and white. As much as we wish we simply loved or hated things, there is often that whole annoying gray area in the middle. Like, we hate getting up for early morning classes, but we love being done by 11. Or, we love how Spanx make us look, but hate how sweaty we get putting them on... Damn you, gray area; you make decision-making that much more complicated!

There are so many difficult choices in life (do we love or hate high heels??), so we thought we’d sort through ‘em right here. Every week we will discuss another issue we are torn up about. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!]

So, we now all know what Twitter is. I can guarantee that you either Twitter yourself, have a friend who Twitters, or know a celebrity that Twitters (and creepily internet-stalk them).

Since its launch in 2006, Twitter has gained roughly 5 million users, coming in 3rd in the social network sites, with 2nd going to MySpace and 1st place to Facebook. It’s actually kind of like the status updates on Facebook, without all the wall posts and bumper stickers (and those annoying pokes). But sometimes I do miss a good laugh at a not-so-attractive FB picture (*untagging now), and a friendly poke now and then isn’t so bad. So Twitter: I’m torn. Read More »

Sexy Time: A** from Afar

phone_sex_2385a.jpg

Let’s be honest – we all like to get some on a fairly regular basis. But what’s a girl to do when the one she wants it from is a little too far away? It’s not like you can call up a guy who lives four hours away, tell him you’re horny, and expect him to deliver. You can bet that you probably would have taken care of it before he even got on the freeway. Thus, I decided to compile a little list of quirky ways to tide you and your guy over until you see each other in the flesh.

Phone Sex: This is the classic way to get your jollies when away from your lover. The upside? Feeling a little more desirable than just flying solo. The downside? Having friends and/or hear your various noises permeate through the walls. Could provide for a veryyy awkward conversation soon after.

Webcam Fun: With the invention of iChat and Skype, face-to-face action is becoming more popular than ever. However, be sure that if you do decide to have your own little “digital get down” that you lock your door. I can tell you (sadly, from personal experience), it is quite embarrassing to have your friend walk in on you half naked playing online strip chess with your boyfriend. Whoooppss. Read More »

Where Do You Meet a Guy, Anyway?!

42-17287496.jpgI am 24 and single. I am also the first to tell you there is nothing wrong with that, but as the novelty of “being an independent women,” “focusing on my career“, and “being so tired of relationship drama” is wearing off I’m face with a serious question: Where does a 20 something girl meet guys?

My immediate instinct when faced with this question would point me towards the bars. And for that exact reason, I have met practically every single boyfriend I’ve had in my college and post years at a bar or party, and while drinking. (Please note: while it has been said time and time again, “you don’t meet nice guys in bars,” I’m here to tell you, you don’t meet nice guys in bars.)

That being said, if history has taught me anything it’s that I need to find a new locale if I want to find a new, interesting, smart attractive gent to call my own. But, I have no idea where to look..

So I asked a handful of friends and acquaintances I got a few answers:

Work (and/or class) - I’m the first to openly admit, I have a slight case of Boy-Crazy. This condition can really hinder my accomplishing anything productive when I’ve got boys on the brain. Thus mixing my professional life with my personal life could really be a fatal combination. Read More »

Money Matters: A Click Away From Help with Your Taxes!

turbo-tax-premium.jpgI am currently staring at four W2′s, which are piled neatly on my desk next to my laptop. My dad has informed me that two more are at my parent’s house, and I need to call the restaurant I worked at last spring because I’m pretty sure they don’t have my current address. Oh, and I’m expecting at least three 1099′s for freelance work.

It’s not that I change jobs like I change my underwear. Last spring, I waited tables and worked for a travel website on my days “off.” I also had one week in January where I was paid for work study from the Fall ’07 semester. Over the summer, I worked Summerstock at a theater. Last semester, I had a paid internship, and I did marketing work for a parent company, so each of the branches I marketed for are considered a separate entity.

What the hell am I going to do? You might be asking yourself the same thing, even if you’ve only held a normal number of jobs (one, two… three?) in the past year. I mean, all the pointless Gen Eds they make us take, and none of them are “Filing Your Taxes 101.” Don’t worry. If the IRS expected everyone to file their taxes on their own, well… it would be like George W. getting reelected.

Here are a few resources I’ve come across as I’ve begun my slow descent into the Hell that is my personal tax season. Feel free to share any other links that you’ve come across. We all want to make it out of college without being arrested for tax fraud. Read More »

Fashionably Techie: Achoo! Virus Protection

computervirusbugs.jpgMy computer is being hit pretty much nonstop with crazy spy and malware. I know this because I get an alert every time something pops up and tries to take Lucy down. (Lucy, as we have discussed before, is my computer’s name.)

The constant alerts are pretty annoying, but they are a great reminder of why it’s important to have virus protection on your machine. You wouldn’t do the horizontal mambo without protecting yourself, so why leave your computer vulnerable to attack?

Now, before a bunch of people hop on and start lecturing us all to buy a Mac, let me say this: Yes, we get it, they have no issues with viruses. However we’ve already invested in our PC’s and I for one am sticking by it.

Moving on!

There are a variety of free and pay for use products out there to protect your computer. They run the gamut from just basic virus protection to spyware protection to super duper top secret protection. Chances are you aren’t hiding military secrets on your laptop but you still need something to protect your credit card info or SS#. Also, you don’t want a bunch of annoying viruses slowing your little buddy down. So you have to make sure you have something. Read More »
