10 Things That Will Be Obsolete When Our Children are in College

Our generation has been called a lot of things over the years, and not all of them have been particularly flattering. But I think we can all agree that we are the generation that thrives on technology. They call us the “thumb generation” because we’re always texting or typing, and that’s not really something we can argue with. We are the age of the internet, the cell phone, and the iPad. We are the age of all things digital.

Just think of all the technological developments that there have been since our parents were college seniors. For one thing, if you were a college girl when you mom was a college girl you wouldn’t be reading a blog. You wouldn’t even know what a blog is. You wouldn’t even have cordless phones, never mind a cell phone, AND you’d be using a typewriter to write your final papers. And none of it would have seemed the least bit weird to you. But it seems weird to us. But you know what, all the stuff that we do now may eventually seem outdated to our children some day.

Like what, you say? Why I’m so glad you asked…

6 Grad Gifts That Should Be On Your List

It’s almost the end of the school year and for those unfortunate seniors out there, it may also be the end of college. (Wah Wah) The second most asked question (right after “what are you doing to do after you graduate?”), will be “what do you want for your graduation gift?” While my wise brother always claims that cash is king, the older generation often wants to give you something more tangible as a gift.

So here’s a list of things you should ask for so you don’t end up with five copies of Oh the Places You’ll Go:

Candy Dish: Nom Nom Nom

14 guilt-free desserts

Watch two good looking people interview eachother

Everything you need to know about the new iPad

15 awesome WTF photos

The ice cream flavor I will never eat

Pretty floral dresses on a budget

What do I get when I get on top?

Isla Fisher sports some pretty jewels

Aren’t his 15 minutes of fame supposed to be over??

Does mutli-tasking decrease your productivity?

Accidental love advice from my mom

We’re Giving Away an iPad!

Don't worry. Yours will be a lot cleaner than this one!

Yes, it’s true. It’s also really hard for us to say that because we’ve wanted one for months and we’re not eligible to win this here contest. Sobfest.

Anyways, here’s the deal. Our friends at Jeep (no, they won’t give us a car, either. UGH.) really love CollegeCandy and to prove that to you, they reached out to us and asked us if they could work with us to give you an iPad. Nice peeps, right?

So here’s what you gotta do to enter. And it’s gonna get dirty.

1. Visit Jeep’s Facebook page, where you’ll be getting muddy.

2. Upload a picture of yourself into their Mud U application.

3. Sling, wipe and rub some mud on that beautiful mug of yours. Read More »

Technically, 2010: A Look Back at All The New Toys This Year Brought Us

Another year has almost come to an end…and what a year it’s been! But instead of recapping the last twelve months by clicking through tagged photos on Facebook or scrolling through oodles of Twitter updates, let us look back at the technology that make it all possible.

Hint: I’m talking about some of the very same technology that we all freaked out about when it first came out.

Smartphone vs. Smartphone: Google entered the smartphone market when they launched their Android all the way back in January. But that didn’t scare Apple away from launching their new iPhone in June (though its reception favored left-handed talkers and called for ton of free “bumper” cases from Steve Jobs). Then came the Blackberry Torch in August and the Windows 7 phone in October. It seems that Smartphones are no longer a luxury item, but a necessity. You were cool if you had one in 2009, but if you don’t have one by 2011, you and your T9Word texting on that black-and-white screen better start saving up.

Foursquare: The schoolyard ballgame is now a new type of social media? Okay, so the “game” started back in 2009, but our favorite businesses and restaurants didn’t start playing until this year. And even though it’s pretty creepy to let complete strangers know where you are and where you’ve been and what you’re doing at any moment, it’s pretty awesome that you can “check in” for discounts. By the end of this holiday (shopping) season, I will be Mayor of my local mall…and my bank account be mayor of “broke.”

Holiday Gift Guide: For the Bookworm [GALLERY]

The holiday seasons are all about eating too many dips, spending way too much money on frenemy gifts, and watching Elf on repeat. This year we’re prepared to take the stress and the frustration out of holiday gift giving by giving you the ultimate gift guides to buying the perfect presents for your favorite people (and we’re splitting into 3 different price ranges so you can choose the gift based on how much you actually like the person!). So set this series as your favorite because all week we’re bringing you the best.

It’s tough to buy gifts for the friend who loves to read. The choice should seem obvious, shouldn’t it? Buy a book. But what type of book? What has she read? What does he want to read? Hardcover or paperback? New or used? The questions are endless. And that’s before you even get into accessories. Are bookmarks too cliché? Will she even use them? Are all those gadgets really necessary?

All valid questions. But more importantly, all answerable questions. College Candy is breaking down the answers for you. With prices ranging from $11.99 to $139 we’ve got all your bases covered, from the books, to the book lights to the book shelves.

So no more standing in the middle of Barnes and Noble staring at the stacks of bestsellers attempting to figure out which one is actually worth reading. I’ve done the hard work for you and scoured those (cyber) shelves to provide you with the best gift options for the bookworms in your life. Read More »

Big News, America!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010: a big day for America.

That’s right, yesterday we witnessed the unveiling of Apple’s latest and greatest: the iPad.

For those of you who have been in a bubble since yesterday (doing homework perhaps?) we’ll put it this way: Kindle+ gameboy +portable DVD player+ internet+ bigger and better APPS = the iPad.  (I figured the math equation would make you feel like you’re doing homework, even though you’re totally procrastinating).  Since yesterday, the iPad has gotten more press than Paris Hilton’s sex tape.  EVERYONE is talking about it.

Oh, what’s that? Something else happened yesterday?
Huh?
