CollegeCandy Goes to the Change-Up Junket

When I sat down in the theater for the press screening of “The Change-Up” I wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary. As far as I could tell the movie was going to be a nice excuse for everyone to drool and sigh over Ryan Reynolds for little over an hour, but within the first few minutes of the film and after a flash of projectile baby excrement thwarted at Jason Bateman’s face, I knew that this flick was more than just Freaky Friday with an R-rating. This film was a game changer.

“The Change-Up”, starring Reynolds and Bateman, focuses on old friends Dave (Jason Bateman) and Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) who want each other’s lives. As imagined, the pals are total opposites — with Dave being the responsible lawyer and father and Mitch being the bachelor guy who sleeps with copious amounts of strange women (and in this case, strange includes a very pregnant chick). The two finally get their wish after letting their flow go in a magical fountain. Sounds Disney, but right from the get go these guys are SO convincing and enthralling that you set aside all disbelief and go along for the ride.

You’ll spend the next hour or so after the initial plot kick off cringing, laughing and being somewhat grossed out (yet wanting more) of Reynolds character’s antics as he tries to adapt to “adult life”. You’ll also be wanting nothing more than to see Bateman’s make it out alive through this life switch.

At the Junket the director and the cast of the film all agreed that “The Change Up’s” R-rating has allowed them to explore and show all the true and very real consequences of walking in someone else’s shoes. I mean how else could you include a scene that shows what happens when a lawyer is forced to cringe through his “actor” buddy’s Lorno (light porn) job without pushing the rating? Although I found myself wondering if they’d gone too far with some of the content, I ultimately have to agree that the choice to also include the not so perfect reality of switching bodies is what initially stuck with me when I walked out of the screening. As a moviegoer I really appreciated that honesty in the film.

“The Change-Up” has so many EPIC scenes that you and your friends will be quoting over and over. It really is that comedy “you must see” this summer. If you’re looking for Hangover laughs with Freaky Friday heart—skip your date with the re-runs and go see “The Change Up” tonight.

We were all bummed when Fox announced way back in 2006 that we would no longer see the ridiculous antics of the Bluth family in Arrested Development because apparently no one understood their humor or something. I mean, the family runs a banana stand. Do you even need me to tell you that’s funny? Also, Michael Cera was chubby then, and it was ridiculously cute to watch him flirt with his cousin.

Anyway, there’s been a lot of talk recently (and apparently the rumors are true this time) about an Arrested Development film in the works. Seeing as this could possibly be the best idea I have ever heard, I’m pretty pissed that I didn’t come up with it myself. So that got me thinking, what are some other TV shows that would do great on the big screen?

Celebrities I’m Only A Little Ashamed To Have A Crush On

Celebdom is full of run-of-the-mill gorgeous people. We all fantasize and have our little lists of who we’d hook up with… but there are some that you just don’t talk about. Those famous people who aren’t exactly of the pre-Angie Brad Pitt reputation.

I have a list of celebrities I find attractive but maybe shouldn’t admit are attractive. These are not the Justin Timberlakes or David Beckhams, but instead, some questionable characters that I (secretly?) feel deserve some consideration:

Chris Brown. He is 18, and therefore I am allowed to judge him. He can dance. And I love that stupid “Kiss, Kiss” song, something I also am a little embarrassed about. I found his stint on the OC rather ambitious. He is kind of adorable.

Jon Stewart. At only 5’7″, he doesn’t meet my usual height requirement. But he’s hilarious. He’s smart. He played soccer at William and Mary. I love him.

Funny does it for me. Jerry Seinfeld. Maybe I subconsciously think I could be his Elaine, you know, when they dated… fictitiously, on the show…

Steve Carell of the American version of The Office. You may also know him as the 40 Year Old Virgin. I think he’s adorable and can see past both the age and that chest waxing scene.

And while we’re on an Office-themed kick, why not give Britain a shot? Martin Freeman, who plays Tim (the one in love with Dawn) is also adorable, and plays the soft-porn star in Love Actually. If Hugh Grant were less obvious, he too would make the list.

Don Cheadle. I love him in Oceans 11, 12, and 13. And Crash… can’t forget Crash.

John Cusack. I was not a fan of Must Love Dogs. Would marry the High Fidelity version of him, although the top five thing might get on my nerves. I also love a little-known eighties film called Better Off Dead, where he is a skier. If you like terrible movies, you definitely should add it to your Netflix rental list.

Jeremy Piven, a buddy of John Cusack. Such an ass as Ari Gold on Entourage, but I think he’s beautiful. He did an ad campaign for Johnston and Murphy this fall that was fantastic, I walked by it on a regular basis.

I also admit to awkward crushes on Michael Cera and Jason Bateman, and a weakness for Arrested Development. And the kid who plays Murray in Clueless, because I love his justification for shaving his head: “‘Cause I’m keepin’ it real! Cause I’m keepin’ it real!”

Alright, I bared my soul and now the readership knows exactly how big a loser I really am. Which obscure celebs do you think are pretty? It’s okay, we won’t judge.
