I’m originally from Jackson Hole, WY – one of the coldest, snowiest places in the country. But even though blizzards there are as commonplace as rats in a subway station, I never had a single snow day growing up. Why, you ask? Because when it snows all the time, it’s nothing special, and school just goes on. But I always wanted a snow day so, so badly.

Remember the days when John Stamos was best known for his mullet role on Full House instead of Glee? When Leonardo DiCaprio was the teen heart throb from Titanic instead of the guy who stared in the freaky dream movie? When Brad was still with Jen and and George Clooney was the hottie on ER?

I do…vaguely.

A lot has changed since our early years. Preteens today are swooning over the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber rather than Leo and co. But just because these heartthrobs are no longer teens, doesn’t mean they’re any less hot. Or any less worthy of our swooning.

So, for your viewing pleasure I’ve put together a gallery of the ten actors that have aged oh so well, with evidence of their hotness both then, and now.

Researchers from Florida State University released a study on what makes men monogamous. According to the study, relationship status determines how attractive men find women during different stages of their menstrual cycle. Guys that are single find women most attractive at the peak of ovulation – also known as the best time to get preggers. Alternatively, committed guys find women less attractive when they are more fertile. So for guys in a relationship, finding a woman less attractive at the peak of fertility is seen as reducing the temptation.

Need another reason not to go down on a guy? US scientists said there is strong evidence linking cancer and oral sex. In the US tobacco use has been outranked by HPV as the leading cause of oral cancer. The study shows that oral sex is still sex, and the more partners you have the higher the risk of getting any STI. The real message in this? Protection is key no matter what type of sex you’re having.

A judge in Manitoba (Canada) ruled that because a rape victim “wanted to party” a convicted rapist will not serve time in jail. The judge also said this case should not be seen as precedent, as it is not a “typical” case. Around the world there is constant debate about “victim shaming” and what role the victim plays in rape. Last year in Australia a jury questioned whether the difficulties in removing skinny jeans showed suspected rape was actually consensual…and a man accused of rape was acquitted.

A study done by a University of Michigan psychologist, Terri Conley, shows women are just as likely to engage in casual sex than men, if the person suggesting is equivalent in sexual prowess. The study also shows both women and men are sexually motivated by pleasure and that making babies simply occurs as a result of people having sex from pleasure. The study disproves a previous notion that women have sex with people they think can take care of them. Conley asked women if they would have sex with Johnny Depp (looks) or Donald Trump (money), and not surprisingly (to me anyways) the majority said Johnny Depp.  No matter how much moolah sleeping with the hair might get them, women still swoon for Johnny. [Editor's Note: Horrible question...Johnny Depp is rich, too!] Research also shows that women turn down casual sex not because they don’t want to get it on, but because they think it won’t be pleasurable. 

What do you think about all of this? Giving head is bad! Victim-shaming is in! This is a lot to think about.

This week, the Golden Globes happened along with a lot of other fun stuff! Celebs got pissed, celebs got engaged, celebs broke up, and some celebs even had secret babies! All in all, a well-rounded week, I’d say.

Back To The Semester Parties

1. You’ll probably never see Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes again. Despite the fact that he did a hilarious job of hosting the Golden Globes, which would have been utterly dull without him, Ricky Gervais’s jokes are being slammed by the majority of Hollywood. Why? I guess because he made fun of both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp within the first five minutes (I guess Hollywood royalty isn’t used to being picked on…), he trashed the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press, and according to some people, he just went ‘too far’ with the jokes he made about Robert Downey Jr., Bruce Willis, and Tom Cruise. There were tons of rumors that he was asked to never return – but apparently, Ricky has made that decision on his own. Can we pull the stick out of Hollywood’s Botox-injected butt, please?

2. Halle Berry is having baby daddy drama. She’s going into a custody battle with her ex, Gabriel Aubry, over their daughter Nahla. He wants to be officially declared the father, and wants joint custody of his daughter. Can’t really blame the guy, can you? Their break-up seemed pretty friendly, but let’s see what happens when the court gets involved.

3. Anne Hathaway had a great week – not only has it been announced that she’ll be making an appearance on Glee, but she was also cast as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. I guess we’ll find out if Anne has the vocal ability to hold her own on Glee, and the body to pull off that catsuit. All that and the fact that she gets to host the Oscars with James Franco AND got to make out with Jake Gyllenhaal for a movie makes me kind of hate her… and want her life.

4. Kanye West is PISSED. Earlier this week, the rapper made a little joke on his Twitter about Britney Spears: “I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time!” Britney’s manager replied with, “Thanks for letting us be #1. Much appreciated.” The whole thing was obviously a joke, with Kanye kind of making fun of himself. But the media blew the entire thing out of proportion (WHAT? I know, that never happens), and Kanye was not very happy about it. He wrote a little blog about it, saying “This sh*t takes the air out of my lungs sometimes from blogs to news reports… enough already!!” Amen, Kanye. AMEN.

5.  Nicole Kidman had a secret baby. Kind of. She and Keith Urban welcomed a daughter born through a surrogate mother. No one knew it was happening, so it was pretty random. Too bad this didn’t happen last week, when everyone in Hollywood decided to get pregnant.

Back To The Semester Studying

1. Regis Philbin is retiring. He’s leaving his long-standing post as the host of Live! With Regis and Kelly. Everyone is already wondering who will replace him… but no one seems to be too surprised. That dude is OLD.

2. The Coachella 2011 lineup was announced. If you live in California or near this area, just know that I am extremely jealous of you. Set to perform are Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Lauryn Hill, Interpol, Neon Trees, Jimmy Eat World, Duran Duran, and soooo many more. Tickets are almost $300 for the 3-day concert, but it’s also an amazing celeb-and-music filled event that everyone should experience. Like I said… jealous, from cold New York.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted with Camilla Belle, and the dating rumors immediately flooded the Internet. It WAS kind of a weird coincidence that right after he breaks up with Taylor Swift, he was spotted with her reported ‘enemy’. Oh man, I can’t wait to hear this song.

4. Don’t worry, ladies and guys – Pauly D is still single, as is January Jones. January Jones and her boyfriend, SNL star Jason Sudekis, broke up this week. Honestly, I had no idea they were dating (shameful for me to admit as a gossip blogger), but that sucks because she’s beautiful and he’s funny. And if you were hoping to run into Pauly D at a club and make out with him, you still can. He denied that he’s dating both Chloe Sevigny and Brittany Gastineau.

5. Two more Hollywood engagements: Jodie Sweetin, former Full House star, got engaged. Aw, Stephanie Tanner! But I can’t say I’m happy for these other two – Jesse James and Kat Von D. Ew. You deserve each other. (Sandra, you’re so much better).

It’s January, so you know what that means in Hollywood – it’s awards season! Kicking off the big ones is the Golden Globes, airing THIS Sunday, Jan. 16, and I for one cannot WAIT!

The Golden Globes merge television and movie awards and are sure to bring out some truly fabulous celebs. It’s (almost) goes without saying that this is the best awards show out there.  But we all know what’s most important (besides the fashion) and that’s not who’s presenting: it’s who will be taking home the awards. Which movie will be crowned Best Drama or Best Comedy? Which actress impressed everyone the most? Who will make the drunkest acceptance speech?

So, with no further ado, here are my predictions on who will most likely win and who SHOULD win the biggest categories of the night:

Best Motion Picture – Drama:

Nominees: Black Swan; The Fighter; Inception; The King’s Specch; The Social Network

Who WILL Win: The King’s Speech

Who SHOULD Win: The Social Network or Black Swan

Black Swan is a huge favorite with everyone right now, so I honestly don’t see why it SHOULDN’T win. But who knows? The King’s Speech is getting a lot of good reviews, and really… it just seems like one of those movies that would win a Golden Globe.

Best Actress – Drama:

Nominees: Halle Berry for Frankie & Alice; Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole; Jennifer Lawrence for Winter’s Bone; Natalie Portman for Black Swan; Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine

Who WILL Win: Natalie Portman or Michelle Williams

Who SHOULD Win: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman was awesome in Black Swan – most people are saying it’s been her best role yet, and I couldn’t agree more. She absolutely deserves the award, especially for what she went through in order to play the role (intense dance training and hardly eating – ouch). But Michelle Williams did a great job in Blue Valentine, and she’s always been a favorite, so… I feel like it could go either way.

Best Actor – Drama:

Nominees: Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network; Colin Firth for The King’s Speech; James Franco for 127 Hours; Ryan Gosling for Blue Valentine; Mark Wahlberg for The Fighter

Who WILL Win: Colin Firth

Who SHOULD Win: James Franco or Jesse Eisenberg

Let’s be clear: I really, really want James Franco to win. Not only because I think he’s gorgeous, but also because he really did do an amazing job in 127 Hours. Who else could make that so interesting? And Jesse Eisenberg played his character perfectly in The Social Network. But I’m hearing a lot of good things about Colin Firth, and like I said before, this just seems like one of those roles that would win.

Best Motion Picture – Comedy:

Nominees: Alice in Wonderland; Burlesque; The Kids Are All Right; Red; The Tourist

Who WILL Win: The Kids Are All Right

Who SHOULD Win: The Kids Are All Right

Okay, first of all, why was Burlesque even nominated? But seriously… The Kids Are All Right is a better movie than all of these noms put together.

Best Actress – Comedy:

Nominees: Annette Bening for The Kids Are All Right; Anne Hatahway for Love and Other Drugs; Angelina Jolie for The Tourist; Julianne Moore for The Kids Are All Right; Emma Stone for Easy A

Who WILL Win: Annette Bening or Emma Stone

Who SHOULD Win: Emma Stone

I want Emma Stone to win because I will just be so happy for her. It’s possible, because Easy A did really well and I’ve pretty much only heard good things about Emma’s performance. But Annette Bening also did a really good job convincing me she was a lesbian. It’s kind of hard to say.

Best Actor – Comedy:

Nominees: Johnny Depp for Alice in Wonderland; Johnny Depp for The Tourist; Paul Giamatti for Barney’s Version; Jake Gyllenhaal for Love and Other Drugs; Kevin Spacey for Casino Jack

Who WILL Win: Johnny Depp for Alice in Wonderland

Who SHOULD Win: Jake Gyllenhaal

Okay, I know Jake Gyllenhaal probably doesn’t REALLY deserve this award. But, just look at him. Anyway, a lot of critics are confused as to why Johnny Depp was nominated twice in this category – it seems a bit excessive. That hints that he might win, and also, he’s Johnny Depp.

Best Supporting Actress:

Nominees: Amy Adams for The Fighter; Helena Bonham Carter for The King’s Speech; Mila Kunis for Black Swan; Melissa Leo for The Fighter; Jacki Weaver for Animal Kingdom

Who WILL Win: Helena Bonham Carter or Melissa Leo

Who SHOULD Win: Mila Kunis

Helena Bonham Carter always does a good job, and she’s a critic favorite, so it’s really possible she could win. However, Melissa Leo is getting tons of recognition for her role in The Fighter, and I’m hearing that she’s the favorite to win this.

Best Supporting Actor:

Nominees: Christian Bale for The Fighter; Michael Douglas for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps; Andrew Garfield for The Social Network; Jeremy Renner for The Town; Geoffrey Rush for The King’s Speech

Who WILL Win: Christian Bale

Who SHOULD Win: Andrew Garfield

It’s actually kind of a toss up between Christian Bale and Michael Douglas. Some feel Michael Douglas will take it because he was so sick this year – but that could be totally untrue. I have a feeling Christian Bale will win this one, although I do think Andrew Garfield did an excellent job and would deserve it just as much.

Best Animated Film:

Nominees: Despicable Me; How To Train Your Dragon; The Illusionist; Tangled; Toy Story 3

Who WILL Win: Toy Story 3

Who SHOULD Win: Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 should win hands down. No arguments. Try and tell me you didn’t cry during this movie. I dare you.

Best TV Show – Drama:

Nominees: Boardwalk Empire; Dexter; The Good Wife; Mad Men; The Walking Dead

Who WILL Win: Dexter or Boardwalk Empire

Who SHOULD Win: Dexter

I have probably never heard one bad thing about Dexter, which leads me to believe it should take the award. However, Boardwalk Empire has also gotten great reviews – I just feel like it may be a little early in the game for it to win.

Best Actress – TV Drama:

Nominees: Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife; Elisabeth Moss for Mad Men; Piper Perabo for Covert Affairs; Katey Sagal for Sons of Anarchy; Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer

Who WILL Win: Julianna Margulies

Who SHOULD Win: Elisabeth Moss

I’m sorry, I don’t even want to explain this one.

Best Actor – TV Drama:

Nominees: Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire; Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad; Michael C. Hall for Dexter; Jon Hamm for Mad Men; Hugh Laurie for House

Who WILL Win: Michael C. Hall or Steve Buscemi

Who SHOULD Win: Michael C. Hall

As I said before, Dexter is amazing. And Michael C. Hall does a great job as the lead character. He would definitely deserve the award, although it might be nice to see Steve Buscemi win after he’s finally the star in something so great.

Best TV Show – Comedy:

Nominees: 30 Rock; The Big Bang Theory; The Big C; Glee; Modern Family; Nurse Jackie

Who WILL Win: Nurse Jackie, Modern Family, or Glee

Who SHOULD Win: Glee or Modern Family

Obviously, it was difficult for me to make a decision here. Nurse Jackie won big at the Emmy’s which leads me to believe it might do the same here. But Modern Family and Glee will definitely be tough competition. They’re both huge fan and critic favorites.

Best Actress – TV Comedy:

Nominees: Toni Collette for United States of Tara; Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie; Tina Fey for 30 Rock; Laura Linney for The Big C; Lea Michele for Glee

Who WILL Win: Edie Falco

Who SHOULD Win: Tina Fey

Just like I said before, Nurse Jackie could be winning big during this show – and Edie Falco has always been a favorite choice. But so has Tina Fey! I’m so….torn!

Best Actor – TV Comedy:

Nominees: Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock; Steve Carell for The Office; Thomas Jane for Hung; Matthew Morrison for Glee; Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory

Who WILL Win: Steve Carell

Who SHOULD Win: Steve Carell

Steve Carell has won before, and for good reason. And while he’s got some stiff competition, this being his last season on The Office has most people thinking that he could take it one last time.

Best Supporting Actress – TV:

Nominees: Hope Davis for The Special Relationship; Jane Lynch for Glee; Kelly MacDonald for Boardwalk Empire; Julia Stiles for Dexter; Sofia Vergara for Modern Family

Who WILL Win: Jane Lynch

Who SHOULD Win: Jane Lynch or Sofia Vergara

Jane Lynch is SO GOOD as Sue! But Sofia Vergara is so good as Gloria! I need a brownie.

We’ll be live-blogging the Golden Globes this Sunday at 8p.m. EST. Grab your laptop (and wine), turn on your TV (and pour some wine) and watch it all unfold with us (while drinking wine).

Because the only thing that will make you less jealous to see all the beautiful celebrities sitting around drinking together, is knowing that you’re not alone. And even though we don’t really know who will win (I mean, we’re not expert predictors like these guys), we do know how to get yourself in the running to be adopted by Brangelina. Seriously. We have blogger connections.

In, The Tourist, a mysterious woman named Elise (Angelina Jolie) diverts the attention away from her actual criminal boyfriend by using an American tourist in Italy, Frank (Johnny Depp). She meets Frank on a train and pretends to be married to him in order to divert the attention of the police and the mafia. The trailer wants you to believe that it’s more complicated than that…but it isn’t.

Today’s review is coming to you in three parts: best picture, best actress, and best actor. That’s right, those were all of the Golden Globes that The Tourist was recently nominated for. And I’m going to tell you why that fact is perfect proof that the films of 2010 have been a disappointment.

Nothing about this film was remotely interesting. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the two girls who got up and left five minutes into the movie (they had the right idea). Honestly, this movie is a complete joke in every sense of the word. More of a joke than Sarah Palin’s reality show.

The dialogue is slow and uncomfortable. The plot has holes. It takes place in a beautiful city, but the sequences don’t even use the gorgeous setting to their advantage. There are two semi-twists, but by the time they come around, you will be so bored with the story that you will not care. WHY GOD, WHY. I’m seriously just getting angry writing about it. Which begs the question, why was this nominated for a Golden Globe? Please tell me. Because I have no answer for you. I almost asked for my money back, which I didn’t even consider doing when I saw Due Date (see that review, read it, multiply all of my hatred times ten).

The Tourist stars Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, who are, like, really pretty. For those people who weren’t aware, WORRY NOT, every time Jolie’s character, Elise, walks into a room, everyone in said room turns around and stares at her. Yes, literally everyone. But, believe it or not, these two may have been part of the reason that the movie made my want to gouge my eyes out. They have no chemistry. The dialogue is awkward and forced. They seem completely disinterested in each other actually.

Don’t see this movie. I’m serious. I would rather watch that video of Miley Cyrus on salvia one hundred times than have to sit through The Tourist again. That’s right, I’d sit through the squawking that is, “IS THAT MY BOYFRIEND? IS THAT MY BOYFRIEND?” in order to avoid a film that has been nominated for multiple Golden Globes.
