There are a lot of perks to being a celebrity. Fame, fortune and all that good stuff are a given, and it’s the reason why so many people would do just about anything to make it big themselves. But as a society I think we often get so caught up in the perks of being famous that we forget about some of the cons; the cons that we as fans who want to know all about these people contribute to. There’s lack of privacy, gossip, and lots and lots of crazy people following your every move, which you probably think would be one of the perks. And I’m sure for a lot of celebrities that is one of the perks. But some fans, well, they can get a little bit crazy, and that’s when things can get just a little bit scary, especially for these celebrities right here.

Taylor Swift’s third album Speak Now dropped yesterday (you can listen to it here), and as America goes crazy over her sparkly dresses and good girl persona, the masses continue to talk about the songs and who they are about. However, instead of getting caught up in all that, I think it’s time to call Nashville’s country pop-princess out.

Enough with the good girl, doe-eyed “who me?” act, Taylor – you’re no better than anyone you write about!

Taylor’s career has been built upon writing songs about her encounters with other people, revealing facts about her relationships, and candidly exposing her side of the story. This is something that many people have done in their music and through their interviews. However, they get a lot of crap for it – while Taylor seems to get the thumbs up.

While the majority of songs on Speak Now feature snapshots of relationships and love, there is an overwhelmingly angry tone that seeks revenge throughout the album’s 14 songs. And just like a lot of the people she writes about (John Mayer and Kanye West, to name the most notorious), she dishes … and does so maliciously. Not such a nice girl now, are you Tay?

Getting the most buzz for its undertones is track six, “Dear John.” Obviously it’s about John Mayer. However, if Taylor wrote the song and named it “Dear Dillon” or “Dear XYZ,” I doubt the media or fans would be pointing fingers at John – no one would have put two and two together. Instead though, she wanted to take a private relationship (despite working together, there was never a John and Taylor relationship confirmation) and make it public, ultimately to damn John for his faults in whatever they shared.

How is this any different than what John Mayer is continuously attacked for by the media? Seriously, think about it. He’s run his mouth about Jessica Simpson being sexual napalm to Playboy, he’s openly talked about Jennifer Aniston and the song “Heartbreak Warfare” is supposed to be about her, and his outspoken and outlandish commentary has pissed a lot of people off. All of that isn’t much different than Taylor blatantly making this private relationship very, very public.

Imagine if John released a song called “Dear Taylor” tomorrow. People would be outraged, even if the song was more about his role in their relationship than hers. The media would attack him for writing about her, exploiting their privacy, and who knows what else. Whether you want to admit it or not, it’s safe to say this is how it would go – which seems like a double standard. Taylor writes “Dear John” and people couldn’t be happier for him to be publicly examined in a song, but if “Dear Taylor” existed, people wouldn’t be singing along.

It seems like Taylor wanted to stir the pot. And if that’s what she intended to do, then more power to her. But the whole pretending “I don’t know what the big deal is” attitude is really annoying. She won’t confirm or deny, but makes comments saying that it’s all in the music. Take some responsibility, girl. You wrote the song. You named it “Dear John” for a reason. You wanted to make a statement, and you certainly did. But come out and say it already!

I doubt she’ll come out and clear up the truth though. She likes to reel her line out a little bit and when people bite, she tends to hold them there. Just look at the way she’s still talking about a certain Jonas Brother. Although Taylor hasn’t dated Joe Jonas since long before her Fearless album came out in 2008, she still talks about him in interviews whenever she can. When Fearless originally came out, she was blatantly exposing what songs were about Joe on Ellen’s talk show. Two years later and she’s still writing about him?

Give it up, girl!

But she can’t. She even writes about the alleged other girl in the demise of their relationship, Camilla Belle, in “Better Than Revenge.” What’s the point of doing this besides being mean? This is kind of ironic after all, considering she has a song entitled “Mean” about critics that say mean things about her. Hypocritical much?

Taylor recently told the New York Times that she feels like in her music she can be a “rebel” and that she can “say things I wouldn’t say in real life.” While it’s good for her to be able to have that release through songs, I think it’s time for her to grow up – something she writes a lot about on Speak Now – and walk the walk if she’s going to talk the talk.

Taylor sings “There’s nothing I do better than revenge” on Speak Now, and makes revenge a key point of where she’s at musically and all that just puts her in the same category as everyone else in the industry who speaks out to get media attention, seek revenge, or to cause the next big scandal. Taylor Swift may not have stolen the show at a very public event or given an explicitly detailed interview to a magazine, but airing your dirty laundry to beat of a pop-country song is no different and no better.

You know how every once in a while, nothing is on TV, and you’re super bored, and maybe it’s a Friday night and you have no plans, and instead of doing something productive like reading you flip around on your remote and end up watching the Disney Channel? Yeah. Don’t deny.

There’s nothing wrong with a little mindless television for kids, but what happens when you find yourself inexplicably drawn to those fresh-faced young men chirping out that positive and life-affirming Disney dialogue? You feel weird and a little dirty — and then you go online and try to find pictures. Also, any info that would allow you to stop feeling like a pedophile: i.e birthdays before 1991.

Even though all of the nubile young things listed below have all surpassed their 18th year, I can’t help but feel just the slightest bit Creepy-Old-Man-On-The-Bus whenever I look at them. Oh well. What can I say? If there are shirtless pics of these hotties somewhere on the net, I’d look at them.

I might even download.

5) Joe Jonas (Age: 19)

I know what you’re thinking: he’s probably gay. And even if he’s not gay, he’s got that whole promise ring thing going on. But I mean, forbidden fruit is always the best kind, and his hair is just luscious. Seriously. How did he get such smooth, beautiful locks? Even though I was in first grade before he was even born, I wouldn’t mind running my fingers through that perfectly styled ‘do while listening to teeny-bop songs that are really about Jesus.

4) Corbin Bleu (Age: 19)

I’ve never seen High School Musical or any of its spawn, but whenever commercials or promos pop up about it I can’t help but notice this cutie and his megawatt smile. If there’s anything I dig, it’s a giant smile — plus, I hear he dances and plays basketball at the same time (coordinated!). Also, props to him for acting along side Zac Efron and not bursting into hysterics whenever Efron does something manly.

3) David Henrie (Age: 19)

I guess he’s on a show called Wizards of Waverly Place. I’ve never seen it, but when I typed in “disney hotties” into Google his name came up. Google is right (as always) — boy IS pretty hot, and he’s got gorgeous eyes. His IMDB profile says he’s close with his family, which is great because if we ever get married I need a husband who has a good bond with the fam.

2) Josh Peck (Age: 22)

Honestly, I had no idea who Josh Peck was until I watched a bootleg copy of The Wackness a few weeks back. The movie was pretty good, and Peck was A) great in it and B) naked a few times. I see good things ahead for this chubby kiddie star turned hot serious actor, and we already know he’s cool with nude scenes. Score.

1) Ricky Ullman (Age: 22)

I happen to adore guys with thick black hair who have crazy names (Ricky’s real name is Raviv), and ever since I saw some random episode of a show called Phil of the Future I’ve been just the tiniest bit obsessed with this kid. I don’t know anything about him, but I don’ t need to. He’s hot. It’s obvious. End of story.

We all know Reality TV is less than quality. And yeah, Rock of Love (especially that bus!) and For The Love Of Ray J are ruining the world, but it’s hard not to love those celebrity-based reality TV shows. Much like coffee, cardigans and chocolate chip muffins, I’m addicted. Whether it’s seeing how those people live or getting to know them in a different way, there’s just something about those shows that keeps me, and America, coming back for more.

Admit it: no matter how embarrassing it is, you can’t get enough of Tori and Dean or Giuliana and Bill. It’s fun to see how celebrities live, and what they’re like when they’re not all decked up on a Red Carpet repeating lines fed to them by their overbearing publicists.

Remember how surprised you were to see how almost normal the Osbournes were?
Or at how messed up Britney and K-Fed were? (…maybe  that one wasn’t so surprising.)

Wouldn’t you like to get inside Oprah’s life? Or Ryan Seacrest’s? Or, OMG, Paula Abdul’s? Talk about TV gold! I’m giddy just thinking about it. (I may even have to upgrade to a bigger DVR if that last one is an option. Mine is already full with all of the Real Housewives….) But enough about my life long dreams; let’s see which reality shows the CollegeCandy writers would like to see.

Ricki – University of Michigan: The Glee cast. They need to show us what it’s like to be behind the scenes

Emmy – Loyola University: Any show with Taylor Lautner would have me as a loyal viewer immediately.

Kim – Stanford: I’d want Jay Z and Beyonce to do a reality show. They’re Hollywood’s most interesting couple because they’re so secretive…. so obviously I want to know everything.

Leah – Ryerson University: Marc Jacobs and his adorable beau. Great fashion, very fun.

Carly – Grinnell: I kind of want to know all about the Disney stars, like the JoBros and Miley. I know parts of their lives are already splashed all over the Internets, but I feel like they have secret, exciting lives that I want to know about.

Lauren – University of Michigan: Chuy from Chelsea Lately. I just can’t get enough of that little nugget.

Nina – Michigan State University: Kanye West should totes get one! It would make even more people hate him. WTF else does he do now that he’s on hiatus, anyway?

Lexi C. – Brown: Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman. He is charming and funny and she is raunchy and offensive, so I would love to see how their personalities work together.

Charlsie – Hollins University: I think I’d like to see blogger Julia Allison finally get her dream-come-true reality show. Maybe then I can figure out what it is she exactly does and should be famous for.

Rachael – University of Miami: I’m not a huge fan of these reality shows, so I’d rather not see anymore created, but if I had to pick someone, I’d want it to be someone who was really working for something important, like Jordanian Queen Rania Al-Abdullah or Michael J Fox, or someone really off-beat and fun, like Tim Burton. THAT could be interesting. . . .

Noa – CU Boulder: Madonna and Jesus Luz. I just need to see how those two work together. Or how long Madge spends chugging protein shakes and bench pressing his hot little bod.

Zahra – Northwestern University: I want Perez Hilton to get a reality show so I can learn how he got famous for no reason and then follow in his footsteps. He freakin’ hangs out with Lady G now! Jealous.

Hannah – Assumption College: I would definitely want to see Brad and Angelina at home with their dozens of children (I honestly don’t know how many children they have, I stopped counting). I just don’t want them to suffer the same fate as Jon and Kate.

Brithny – Duke: Anderson Cooper, apart from AC360. I’ve always wondered what the Silver Fox does on a daily basis, besides being ridiculously good-looking and saving kids.

Brittany – University of St.Thomas: Besides Chase Crawford (even if he life is bor-ing I would be pleased take an extra 30 min. out of my day to stare at his brown locks and purty eyes) I would chose Katy Perry. Someone has to get behind her obsession for Russell “skinny jeans” Brand. I also wouldn’t be opposed to a Perez Hilton and a Lady Gaga combo reality show. It could be like Rob and Big, except way weirder. And gayer. Loves it!

Sarabeth – University of Texas: I want to see Brad and Angelina have their own show on TLC. They have to be more interesting than the Duggars.

Elizabeth – UC Berkeley: Joaquin Phoenix.  I’m a little curious about what he’s been up to post-breakdown/rap career.

Here are some of the more harmful holiday practices and how we can tweak them to make them more eco-friendly without any less holiday cheeriness.

Gift Giving:
Every year we all spend our precious time and money picking out the perfect gifts for our loved ones.  Unfortunately, what may seem like the “perfect gift” to us may not be so appreciated by the recipient and end up as a throw-away by the time spring cleaning rolls around.  Avoid this potential waste while saving your own time and effort and give them something they will actually use.  Go for gift cards to their favorite stores so they can pick out something they’ll want.

Another idea is to stray away from buying “stuff” and give experiences to your loved ones instead.  A massage at the local spa for your mom, tickets to the big game for your dad, or a backstage pass (slash nosebleed section ticket) to the Jonas Brothers for your little sis should do the trick.  Plus, all of these gifts have the potential for you to include yourself in on the action (minus the J Bros, thanks).  Happy holidays to you!

And if none of those ideas strike your fancy, there are tons of eco-friendly gifts that will make everyone – including Mother Earth – happy.

Keep the travel to a minimum:
While it’s great to spend time with loved ones during the holiday season, it can become a little exhausting for the family and for the planet.  Spare your fam the holiday traffic, fights over the radio station, and tons of air pollution and keep it small.  Instead of driving from family member to family member, invite them all to one place for a holiday dinner or small party.  Not only will it reduce the stress of the holidays, it will also take a load off of the planet.  If you just have to go see Aunt Edna this year, consider renting a hybrid car (Zip Car, the greatest business ever, has plenty for rental, either for a few hours or an entire day!) for the journey to save on gas and increased mileage on the family minivan.

Get off your butts!:
For some reason, “family time” during the holidays now tends to include TV, going to movies, or playing Wii tennis (thanks, Walmart commercials).  My advice? GO OUTSIDE.  For those of you lucky enough to have snow during the holidays, go build a snowman or have a kids vs. parents snowball fight like old times.

If a food coma’s got you feelin’ a little sloth-y, go on a leisurely walk around the neighborhood to check out the over-the-top decorations or stay in and play Apples to Apples.  Not only will you save electricity and energy, but you’ll actually get to spend time with your fam that doesn’t involve your Mom’s awkward comments during Nights of Rodanthe about how Richard Gere is “such a hunk.”

Reuse your wrapping paper:
As much as I would like to think that I could convince you all to wrap your gifts in recycled newspaper, I know that’s just too tacky, even for us poor college students.  The next best thing?  Save wrapping paper, tissue paper, bows, and gift tags for next year.  This will cut down on holiday waste and save you a butt-load of money next year.  Another great tip that I picked up from my Mom is to re-use all those holiday cards as gift tags for the next year.  Just carefully cut around the writing to get some free, unique, and recycled gift tags for next year’s gifts.

Don’t get us wrong: Jonah Hill is totally hilarious, whether he’s riffing with his buddies from the Judd Apatow School of Awesome or slumming it in “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.” That said, we do not want to see his wang. Ever.

Seeing any of these three without a regulation skinny tie and a nonthreatening-yet-slightly-edgy pair of pants would just weird us out, no matter how convincingly they croon about wanting to hold a girl’s hand or whatever. It would be like seeing a creepy version of Mickey Mouse wandering through a post-apocalyptic Disney Land.

It’s kind of ironic that the guy who started the Playboy empire is the last dude that we’d ever, ever want to see in the buff. The soft-core entrepreneur is 83 years old, which makes him 63 years older than his current “girlfriends,” identical twins Kristina and Karissa Shannon. They might not mind running their hands over his loose wrinkles, but we do. Ew. There aren’t even words to describe how wrong that is.
