A few months ago, we questioned the sanity of the designers behind American Apparel. Walking into one of their stores is like walking into the brain of someone with multiple personalities: to the left, the perfect hoodie. To the right, a shiny, gold body suit. Wha???
Some might argue American Apparel is a store for everyone (well, everyone but plus size shoppers), but now that rumors are circulating that AA is on it’s way to bankruptcy (holy hell, what are hipsters going to do?!), we’re beginning to think it’s actually a store for no one. At least no one sane.
When it comes down to it, we’re not surprised by this news. Between their pornographic ads, their super shady CEO and well, the crazy sh*t they’re hawking, we’re shocked this hipster haven lasted this long. I mean, really, who’s buying this stuff: Read More »

The MTV Movie Awards have come and gone and it was quite a show. From the Les Grossman opening to Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell hanging from the ceiling (“My testicles are numb….”) to the awkwardness-as-they-tried-to-be-funny-without-actually-admitting-to-being-together when Kristen and Rob won Best Kiss, there was a whole lot going on. And who can forget Betty White’s tribute to Sandra Bullock? Or Ken Jeong channeling Lady Gaga in his leopard leotard?
Or how about the 3 times someone said “f**k” and the sensors missed it?
All in all, it was a great show, but like any award show, what really mattered at the end of the night was what everyone was wearing. And like any MTV event, there was a whole lot of good and a whole lotta OMG, WTF is that!? Read More »

As 2009 quickly comes to an end (can you freakin’ believe it’s almost 2010?!), we are all looking forward to a new year in some way or another. Maybe you’ve set some super ambitious resolutions you can’t wait to start on (I will be living 2010 on a treadmill), or maybe you’re excited to ring in the New Year in a fabulous dress and even more fabulous friends.
What I’m looking forward to is a new year of jewelry, shoes, and clothing.
What could be more exciting then a whole new round of trends and styles to rock around campus?
But perhaps part of this excitement comes from the fact that in order to bring in a slew of new trends, some of the old ones are going to have to go. And this year I’m not going to be shedding any tears to kick 2009 fashion trends to the curb.
Don’t get me wrong – there is definitely some to-die-for stuff out there that is coming with me into the new year. My leather bomber jacket, knee high boots, and embellished tees being three of them. But along with all the good came a whole lot of ugly this year and here are five trends that will have me screaming “Out with the ugly! And in with the new!” when the ball drops this New Year’s Eve. Call it a jumpsuit, catsuit, an adult onesie, whatever – these things are obviously all the rage… in magazines at least. I’ve been seeing these grown-up versions of your favorite baby-wear all over the fashion mags (and even this very site) this season and I have to admit, on the glossy pages, they look cute. But I also notice that I haven’t seen an actual human being (excluding mechanics) wearing them in real life. Is this just another fashion-world thing, or are there packs of romper-wearers running wild some place I haven’t seen?
According to pretty much everyone in the fashion industry, rompers are the perfect summer outfit because they’re comfy, versatile and you don’t have to think about them much. Ok, I can see that. They supposedly give you a pulled together look that can be dressed up or down. Alright, I’m liking this. But then I notice a little problem – when you inevitably have to pee during the day (and let’s face it, you will have to pee), you basically have to strip down to your skivvies in a bathroom that probably isn’t your own. I am officially not down with that. Read More »
This spring and summer we’re once again returning to our playground days with the romper/jumpsuit trend coming back for another season. While this look can teeter on juvenile, if done properly it can be an adorable daytime look that quickly switches over to a sexy evening style.
I know a lot of people aren’t the biggest fan of rompers, but to be honest, I L-O-V-E this look and know I can convince you to feel the same. I have a few rompers in my closet already, but I may just have to add another one to my collection, because this baby is too cute for words (and reasonably priced as well!):

This week my Night Styler is centered around a clothing trend I will admit I was a bit baffled with in the beginning, but has slowly and steadily grown on me: the pant jumpsuit.
We’ve seen this throwback to the 80s’ cousin, the romper, all over the place for a couple of years and I will admit that I have a purely love/love relationship with those cute little guys. But this season designers really took it back by featuring flowy pantsuits we haven’t seen since ’88. Admittedly, this isn’t a look that everyone can pull of (heck, I’m not even sure I can pull it off, but God knows I’m gonna try), but it might not be as difficult as you suspect with the right shoes and accessories.
This jumpsuit from Express has the look down. It’s flowy and loose-fitting, but still maintains a sexy quality that’s sure to get looks. Bonus: it comes in four colors, including this season’s it color – hot pink. (Note: hot pink is hard to pull off on its own and attempting to do so in the form of a jumpsuit is not for the weak.) Bonus #2: It saves you time choosing pants and a shirt, as it’s already done for you. Read More »

My friend and I decided “to hell with this recession!” and did a little shopping this past weekend. Well, discount shopping (I’m not totally frivolous). Stops included Nordstrom Rack, Off 5th, Loehman’s and, my personal fave, H&M.
Upon walking into H&M, where I was looking for some basics, I was visually assaulted by something so outrageous, I didn’t know what to say. While my friend was sifting through a pile of spring sweaters (read: throwing all the sizes she didn’t want on the floor), I was frozen in my place, staring at what couldn’t-possibly-but-so-totally-was a zebra jumpsuit.
Yes, you read that right. Zebra. Jumpsuit.
If you have been to an H&M in the last few months, you have probably seen this before. The saleslady, who came over to assist me in my state of shock, explained that the jumpsuit had recently become H&M’s biggest seller. “I don’t get it, but the minute they come in they are sold out.”
I had so many questions:
“Why?”
“What?”
“Are girls getting too lazy to pick out a shirt and a pair of pants?”
“Isn’t it more difficult to pee with that thing on?” Read More »
