This week, the Golden Globes happened along with a lot of other fun stuff! Celebs got pissed, celebs got engaged, celebs broke up, and some celebs even had secret babies! All in all, a well-rounded week, I’d say.

Back To The Semester Parties

1. You’ll probably never see Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes again. Despite the fact that he did a hilarious job of hosting the Golden Globes, which would have been utterly dull without him, Ricky Gervais’s jokes are being slammed by the majority of Hollywood. Why? I guess because he made fun of both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp within the first five minutes (I guess Hollywood royalty isn’t used to being picked on…), he trashed the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press, and according to some people, he just went ‘too far’ with the jokes he made about Robert Downey Jr., Bruce Willis, and Tom Cruise. There were tons of rumors that he was asked to never return – but apparently, Ricky has made that decision on his own. Can we pull the stick out of Hollywood’s Botox-injected butt, please?

2. Halle Berry is having baby daddy drama. She’s going into a custody battle with her ex, Gabriel Aubry, over their daughter Nahla. He wants to be officially declared the father, and wants joint custody of his daughter. Can’t really blame the guy, can you? Their break-up seemed pretty friendly, but let’s see what happens when the court gets involved.

3. Anne Hathaway had a great week – not only has it been announced that she’ll be making an appearance on Glee, but she was also cast as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. I guess we’ll find out if Anne has the vocal ability to hold her own on Glee, and the body to pull off that catsuit. All that and the fact that she gets to host the Oscars with James Franco AND got to make out with Jake Gyllenhaal for a movie makes me kind of hate her… and want her life.

4. Kanye West is PISSED. Earlier this week, the rapper made a little joke on his Twitter about Britney Spears: “I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time!” Britney’s manager replied with, “Thanks for letting us be #1. Much appreciated.” The whole thing was obviously a joke, with Kanye kind of making fun of himself. But the media blew the entire thing out of proportion (WHAT? I know, that never happens), and Kanye was not very happy about it. He wrote a little blog about it, saying “This sh*t takes the air out of my lungs sometimes from blogs to news reports… enough already!!” Amen, Kanye. AMEN.

5.  Nicole Kidman had a secret baby. Kind of. She and Keith Urban welcomed a daughter born through a surrogate mother. No one knew it was happening, so it was pretty random. Too bad this didn’t happen last week, when everyone in Hollywood decided to get pregnant.

Back To The Semester Studying

1. Regis Philbin is retiring. He’s leaving his long-standing post as the host of Live! With Regis and Kelly. Everyone is already wondering who will replace him… but no one seems to be too surprised. That dude is OLD.

2. The Coachella 2011 lineup was announced. If you live in California or near this area, just know that I am extremely jealous of you. Set to perform are Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Lauryn Hill, Interpol, Neon Trees, Jimmy Eat World, Duran Duran, and soooo many more. Tickets are almost $300 for the 3-day concert, but it’s also an amazing celeb-and-music filled event that everyone should experience. Like I said… jealous, from cold New York.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted with Camilla Belle, and the dating rumors immediately flooded the Internet. It WAS kind of a weird coincidence that right after he breaks up with Taylor Swift, he was spotted with her reported ‘enemy’. Oh man, I can’t wait to hear this song.

4. Don’t worry, ladies and guys – Pauly D is still single, as is January Jones. January Jones and her boyfriend, SNL star Jason Sudekis, broke up this week. Honestly, I had no idea they were dating (shameful for me to admit as a gossip blogger), but that sucks because she’s beautiful and he’s funny. And if you were hoping to run into Pauly D at a club and make out with him, you still can. He denied that he’s dating both Chloe Sevigny and Brittany Gastineau.

5. Two more Hollywood engagements: Jodie Sweetin, former Full House star, got engaged. Aw, Stephanie Tanner! But I can’t say I’m happy for these other two – Jesse James and Kat Von D. Ew. You deserve each other. (Sandra, you’re so much better).

Eyeliner is the one makeup staple that I just won’t leave the house without. Liner-less eyes make me feel like a zombie and I inevitably get bombarded with “are you sick” or “did you not sleep well” type questions.

I’ve tried so many different liners just trying to find that perfect one. And then I realized there isn’t one. The trick is that with so many different varieties, there are perfect liners for different occasions! Certain lifestyles and situations fit better with a particular type of eyeliner. I’ve outlined the different types of liner and the pros and cons of each so you can decide which ones are right for you:

Pencil Liner

This is the most common, most convenient liner out there. Just about every brand makes one and I don’t know a girl who doesn’t have at least one eyeliner pencil in her bag.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to find, no fuss, no muss.

Cons: Racoon eyes. For some girls a pencil liner only stays in place for a few hours before it’s essentially smeared into not-so-cute panda markings.

Perfect For: Day to day wear. To class, the grocery store or anywhere you want to look presentable but not have to try too hard.

Liquid Liner

Liquid is the must-have liner of all the classic beauty, Hollywood glam girls out there. Ladies like Dita von Teese and Katy Perry who rock the vintage style are rarely seen without a little liquid liner!

Pros: Precision lines that don’t budge.

Cons: Very tricky to put on. You better have a steady hand guiding that teensy little brush along your lashline. And if you screw up, pull out the makeup remover and get ready to start over completely.

Perfect For: Special occasions where you want to step up the glamour! Sexy cats eyes, or any other look requiring very defined lines.

Cream Liners

Cream liners are a little bit the best of both worlds. You can achieve a softer look than a liquid, but still more precise then a pencil.

Pros: Easy to use, stays put no matter what, creates precision lines but can be smudged out for a softer or smoky look.

Cons: Requires a special brush and can be time consuming to apply.

Perfect For: Going out to clubs or nice restaurants. Anyone who is scared or inept at liquid should feel comfortable with a cream liner.

Powder Liner

Simple and refined, lining your eyes with a black (or really any shade!) of eye shadow can created the framing effect like other liners, but with a softer look.

Pros: You can use any eye shadow (preferably a darker shade) that you already have. It stays in place very well, and subtly fades away instead of smearing off like the others.

Cons: Also requires a brush and doesn’t give a defined line. More difficult to achieve a dramatic look.

Perfect For: Girls who like a softer look, or lining the inner rim.

Yes, including your makeup.

Don’t worry – you won’t look like Kermit… or Elphaba from Wicked. There is a perfectly acceptable way to put green on your face. And that involves subtlety. Shy away from neon greens or green lipsticks; instead, layer on the green shadows, liner and mascara for a festive yet totally classy look.

Who knows? You may even continue to rock those greens all year long. Plus, no one will be able to resist a pair of sparkling green eyes.

So give green a chance with these great green products!

Sarah – East Carolina University: Milla Jovovich. She kicks ass and looks fantastic doing it.

Sarabeth – University of Texas: Kat Von D. She’s beautiful and a B.A.M.F.

Kathryn S.: Emily De Ravine from Lost – she’s hot, and maybe I could entice her into having a three-way with Josh Holloway or Naveen Andrews. Bonus!

Sara C – Fordham: Heidi Klum! She’s a bombshell, and when we’re done doing the deed she can help me construct a better wardrobe. What’s not to love?

Leah – Ryerson University: Jessica Alba.

Carly – Grinnell: I think I probably have to go with Keira Knightley.

Noa – CU Boulder: Elisha Cuthbert. She’s just hot.

Mandy – Hofstra: I’d definitely switch teams for my girl crush, Kim Kardashian. I don’t know what it is about her, but the girl’s hot!

So, who’s yours?

Even though Bettie gave up modeling back in the early ’60s, she has not been forgotten. The phrase “pin-up girl” is automatically associated with her name and infamous curvacious body and jet black hair. She has inspired kinkiness in all sorts of forms as thousands of women have attempted to follow in her footsteps, artists have painted her, and film makers have documented her life (“The Notorious Bettie Page”).

Despite her unfortunate passing, I have a feeling Ms. Page will continue to inspire women. Even celebs today have tried to emmulate her sex appeal (think Kat Von D). Hef himself described her as “a combination of wholesome innocence and fetish-oriented poses that is at once retro and very modern.” She is timeless.

She was a woman’s woman who exuded sex from her pores and left every guy wanting more. It is no wonder Ms. Page is held in such high esteem. She is an inpsiration to women everywhere and has definitely left her mark on me.

This week, TLC aired the season finale of L.A. Ink, Kat Von D’s spin-off of the wildly popular Miami Ink. Just like it had all season, it was full of tons of talent, a little bit of drama, and some really, really amazing tattoos.

Ever since she hit our screens in Miami Ink, Kat’s been wowing us with her portrait work, and now that she’s enlisted her incredibly gifted friends to help her in her own shop, we’ve been treated to some of the best ink there is to offer.

First, Kat reunites with her friend Pixie (love her!) and lets her in on her plans to open her own shop. Then she meets up with Corey Miller who is one of her inspirations:

Something really endearing about L.A. Ink (and TLC in general) is it’s ability to show what seems like cheesy moments and morph them into something heart-wearming but not cringe-worthy. In this clip, a grandfather is memorialized and the family gets together to watch Corey play with his band!

It’s awesome to see in the world of body modification, woman tattoo artists are getting the proper platform it needs…if just to prove that the business doesn’t need to be dominated by the guys!
