Perpetually single girl that I am, I am in desperate need of a boy to kiss at midnight on New Year’s Eve. And if I’m going to dream, I might as well dream big, right?

10. Taylor Lautner. If he agrees to kiss me at midnight, I won’t even write a song about him afterward. Promise. (Sorry T.Swift, I just couldn’t resist. I actually really like “Back to December.”  Honest.)

9. Eric Dane. McSteamy. McHottie. Whatever you want to call him, he’s McKissable. Just ask the Seattle Grace Nurses. Or Lexie Grey. Or even Bradley Cooper. (What? You haven’t seen Valentine’s Day?)

8. Matthew Morrison. Yes, I know he’s the teacher from Glee. But I’d like to remind everyone of that Rocky Horror episode, you know, the one when Schuester took off his shirt and started singing “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me” …Yep. I thought so.

7. Chace Crawford. Come on now, ladies, did you really think I was going to get through an entire Weekly Ten without mentioning Gossip Girl? Shame on you! Nate has earned his rightful place on this list. In fact he’s actually locked lips with every one of the lovely ladies of Gossip Girl except for Lily VanderWoodsen/Bass/Humphrey, and I think that might only be because he can’t remember her entire last name. My last name, though? It doesn’t matter. These lips are ready for some smoochin’.

6. Bradley Cooper. I saw this guy way back when in He’s Just Not That Into You. But it wasn’t until The Hangover that I actually fell in love with him. I think it was the hair. Or the aviators. Or the…slightly tattered shirt and gorgeous eyes. Ahem…moving on.

5. Jesse Williams. A year later, and I’m still hung up on that kiss between Jackson and Cristina. And well, if that’s not enough to convince you that he should be on this list then you should check out that episode where he goes shirtless to get ahead at work. It doesn’t actually work on Dr. Altman, but I assure you that it totally would have worked on me.

4. Jake Gyllenhaal. I haven’t actually seen Love and Other Drugs yet, but the promo is proof enough to me. Also, I am unreasonably jealous of Anne Hathaway.

3. Ian Somerhalder. I know what you’re thinking, the guy from Vampire Diaries, really Jenn, come on now. Laugh all you want, but Ian somerhalder, aka Smolderhotter is no Edward Cullen. Need some proof? Check out this scene. And this one. Then get back to me. If you’re still coherent, that is.

2. Ryan Gosling. I’m sorry. Have you not been paying attention to your Weekly Ten? That kiss will go down in chick flick history, ladies. But as much as I love Noah an Allie’s kiss, I think I’m actually way more partial to Ryan and Rachel’s smooch. Ryan, if you’re reading this, you’ll be making my teeny bopper dreams come true if we were to reenact that at midnight in Times Square. Please?

1. Ryan Reynolds. I’ll admit that I was actually a little bit upset when I found out that he and Scarlett Johansson had supposedly split. But then, then I realized that this only increased my chances of kissing my top pick on New Year’s Eve. Now I just have to find out where he’s going to be, get in, get past his security detail and pounce on him right as the clock strikes twelve. If you’ll excuse me I need to go work out these details.

Glamour had listed their top six movie kisses of all time. And I have to say, I was a little disappointed.

The kisses they chose were certainly swoon worthy, but I didn’t think all of them deserved a top spot. And there were other kisses that were most definitely missing. Lots of kisses missing. Kisses that needed to be mentioned. So I selflessly spent hours and hours poring over YouTube video after YouTube video to compose this list for you, my top ten movie kisses of all time.

10. Jack and Rose, Titanic. Leo has come a long way since his days of freezing to death alongside a glacier, but I don’t think our generation will ever let him forget his days as a teen heart drop. This kiss, though not particularly impressive, sums up our teeny bopper days perfectly. It’s nostalgic and sweet and we’ll never let go.

9. Blane and Andie, Pretty in Pink. This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one Brat Pack shout out. And for me at least, it couldn’t be anything other than this movie. That final scene in the parking lot when Jack and Andie reunite at the senior prom after a huge fight just epitomizes everything I love and hate about teen angst and chick flicks. It’s cheesy and incredibly cliché but I would be lying if I said I didn’t wish something like that had happened at my high school prom.

8. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, Pride and Prejudice. Maybe it’s just the literature geek in me, but I find the kiss between Darcy and Elizabeth at the end of the 2007 adaption of Pride and Prejudice to be so romantic. It’s not particularly passionate or steamy, but it’s intimate all the same. It’s a kiss viewers have been waiting for throughout the entire movie. The buildup-from the angry rain arguments, to the subtle hand holding, to the forehead touching makes it totally worthy it.

7. Edward and Vivian, Pretty Woman. This one is here more for the dialogue that accompanies the kiss than the kiss itself, but I still felt like it needed to be mentioned. Richard Gere’s character has just climbed up a fire escape to get to Julia Roberts even though he’s desperately afraid of heights. He reaches Vivian and asks, “So what happens after her climbs up and rescues her?”  She says, “She rescues him right back.”  Then they kiss.

6. Edward and Bella, New Moon. I debated putting this one on here, really I did. Because there’s just so much “OMGz” drama that comes along with anything Twilight related. It reminds me of screaming teenage girls and Robert Pattinson’s hair, and Kristen Stewart’s inability to smile (and lots of articles I read in my feminism class last semester). But I put all of that aside, and I’m asking you to do the same. Because that kiss they shared at the end of New Moon, that was hot.

5. Lady and Tramp, Lady and the Tramp. I can never hear the lyrics to “That’s Amore” without thinking of these two. Just the sweetness and innocence of these two little dogs sharing meatballs and slurping on the same piece of spaghetti is too adorable for words. Cutest kiss ever.

4. Peter and Mary Jane, Spiderman. If it’s iconic enough for Seth and Summer to reenact on The OC, then its iconic enough to make this list. Upside down and in the rain, that kiss had every girl wanting to meet Toby McGuire in a dark alley.

3. Rhett and Scarlett, Gone With the Wind. Plastered on every movie poster ever made for this movie, this one is a classic. Against a bright red and orange sunset, Scarlett kisses Rhett just before he goes off to war. These two may not have a happy ending, but this kiss almost makes that worth it.

2. Fred and Holly, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I apologize to those of you who are not fans of Audrey, but this kiss just had to be here. It had to. Its Audrey and George, looking fabulous in their trench coats, as rain comes down around them and they scream about not belonging to anyone at all. Then, all of a sudden they’re professing their undying love for one another. And kissing. This is the stuff of romance, folks.

1. Noah and Allie, The Notebook. I tried to be objective when ranking these kisses. But before I even sat down to write this, I knew Noah and Allie were going to be my number one. When I think of movie kisses, this is what I think of.  In my opinion nothing can quite compare. I mean first off, it’s raining, and second of all they’re fighting, and third, these two have been pining away for each other for years.  All that pent up emotion, and anger and passion finally explode. In the best way possible. They just can’t be beat. Period. The end. Cue the hot sex.

I don’t know about you ladies, but Sixpence None the Richer’s Kiss Me is on repeat in my head right now. And I’m just going to go with it…and maybe head over to YouTube and check out some of those movie clips again.

Sigh.

This has led me to some contemplation on how hard it actually is to make a move on someone, and how annoying and awkward it can be while you’re waiting for them to make a move on you.

We’ve all been in way too many situations where we’ve been talking to a cute boy all night, but the party’s dying down and we can’t tell if he’s gonna pack up his things and head home (alone), or pucker up his lips and go in for the kiss (or, you know, put his hand on our butt…something!). And you know he’s feeling just as anxious, because he can’t tell if he should risk making the move too soon and scaring you off.

So you just sorta stand there…talking about cheese.

Of course, as Weezer exemplifies, this situation can easily be reversed. And I’m all for that. It’s time to stomp out the awkwardness of making/waiting for a move. It’s time to take matters into our own hands, and to take those matters with confidence and ease.

How can you let him/her know you’re ready?

Physical Contact. Touch his shoulder as you’re talking, or let yourself get pushed close to him in a crowded room. Taking advantage of any excuse to touch him will get those hormones pumping!

Privacy. Any thinly veiled excuse to leave the crowded party or bar (“I’d love a house tour! Which room is yours?”) should give off the hint that you’re ready to take it up a notch.

Where did my friends go? Losing your friends offers a great opportunity for him to offer to walk you home, and for you to invite him inside to “warm up.” Of course, make sure you have cab fare in case he doesn’t get the hint.

Tired of waiting? Tried all those things and homeboy still isn’t going in for the kill? Make the move yourself.

Just Kiss Him Already. If the tension is there, taking the plunge and just kissing him is the best way to get started. If he’s into it, you’ll be a hero. If you misread the situation and he has a girlfriend or something, well, at least you have a story to submit to CollegeCandy’s Morning After column.

Yeah, it will sting for a little while, but at least you tried. That’s more than you can say for most people!

"So....maybe we could go out sometime?"

Sometimes I like to think I’m David Letterman, only with better teeth and less wrinkles. So, every week I write a top ten list of things that are super duper relevant and important. Like staying sober…and those celebs we love to hate.

This week, I’m breakin’ it down for the boys out there. Myself, and many CollegeCandies are not big fans of He’s Just Not That Into You. I do think the book has some valid points, but it’s way too over the top. So I’ve decided to write a rebuttal and tackle the ten signs that She’s Just Not That Into You.

Guys, take note!

10. She stops texting back.
No, my phone isn’t off. It’s never off. I mean, how else would I get Facebook updates 24/7? Not to mention my solitaire addiction. Unless you’re with a girl who doesn’t have a texting plan, she got your text message. If a girl likes you she will answer your text message, guaranteed. She also spent a good twenty minutes thinking up her forty character response.

If she’s just not that into you? You’ll get no response or “lol yeah” for an answer. For the record? “Lol yeah” is the kiss of death, homeboy. Please don’t text three times back to back. It’s desperate. No, I don’t want to hang out with you, and NO I don’t really have a boyfriend – I just said that because I didn’t want to tell you the harsh truth: you’re a straight up creeper and you’re in my address book as “Weirdo Scumbag.” Get the hint.

9. She avoids physical contact at all costs.
PDA is gross. Hand holding can be stupid. If we are rejecting even kisses on the cheek or flinch when your leg brushes against us? Yeah, it’s hairy and kinda gross, but there’s something more: you’re in the “friend zone.” 

8. She’s. Not. Amused.
If we like you, no matter how stupid and corny your jokes are, we’ll laugh. Oh yeah, we will. Even if we just giggle and say, “that’s cheesy,” girls will still make a point to smile, even at the corniest of jokes.
EXAMPLE:
Boy-toy: How do you keep a rhinocerous from charging?
Girl: I don’t know, how?
Boy-toy: You take away his credit card!
Girl (over-enthusiastically): HAHAHA omigod you have such a good sense of humor!
Boy-toy (thinking): I know, right? Ugh I am the MAN! That joke is effin’ hilarious!

7. She talks about other cute boys, crushes and dates in front of you.
No brainer. Enjoy hearing, “No, he’s just my good friend.”

6. You don’t know if her family/friends like you.

Here are some tip-offs:

- She hasn’t introduced you to her circle of friends or family.
- She hasn’t brought you home.
- She doesn’t talk about you to her mom.
- She doesn’t talk about you to anyone.
- Even her beloved pekingese puppy (who she tells everything to) hasn’t heard your name.

She’s just not that into you. Neither is her fluffy pooch.

5. She doesn’t freak out about things.
You’re going out with another girl. Go ahead! You think her best friend’s hot? She asks if you want her number. You didn’t call her back because you thought you were playing “hard to get”? She doesn’t even mention it. Didn’t remember her birthday? Big deal, it’s just a birthday. You blew her off last minute for a formal? Awesome, because you were the fifth person she asked and that hottie in Chem 101 just became available. You’re a last resort, sorry!

4. She talks openly about bodily functions.
She doesn’t try and cover up the nasty noises that come out of her after eating too many two dollar tacos. She challenges you to burping contests. You’re more familiar with her digestive tract than your own. Gross. She’s not that into you….but she should be into some Pepto-bismol.

3. She’s got a boyfriend/fiancée/husband/ex that she’s sleeping with.
She’s attached. Odds are high that she won’t dump Mr. Whoever for you. She might even be lying about a boyfriend to get rid of you. Not that I’ve used that line before… or like… this morning. Oops.

2. She’s really busy with school/work/feeding her goldfish.
If a girl likes you, she will always make the time for you, every damn day. There is not one single chica on this planet who can’t carve out a measly five minutes of her day to contact you in some shape or form. You deserve better, don’t be last on her “to-do list” right under “re-organize all the Tupperware in my apt.”

1. She doesn’t Facebook you back.
Might sound stupid, but this is HUGE. With the way technology is today, Facebook is as available to everyone as text messaging. Not to mention, girls LOVE Facebook. If she can take the time to become a fan of Brody Jenner, she can take the time to write on your wall, message you back or poke you in a timely manner. And if she hearts you, she will want everyone on FB to know.

So here is a good story for all you readers. “The Alphabetical Hookup List” by Phoebe McPhee is a hilarious roller coaster series of three books. Starring Jodi, Celeste and Ali, three VERY different girls forced to live together in a dorm at Pollard University, the series is literally a laugh-a-minute.

At first, the girls don’t get along at all and try to sabotage each other. Finally, over a bottle of tequlia one night, they bond, and decide to embark on the quest from which the title gets its name. They will compete in a contest to find out who can kiss a boy whose name starts with each letter of the alphabet the fastest. From that plot line alone, you can imagine all the terrific hook-up stories that fill this book.

Besides the laughs that come from the girls attempting to kiss their way through all 26 letters the fastest, there are also attempts to join sororities, pass classes and avoid some pretty interesting characters the girls meet along the way. Well, maybe interesting isn’t the right word…

Summer is the perfect time to turn off the brain and enjoy books for once; The Alphabetical Hookup List is just the way to do it.

[One of the greatest aspects of college life is the morning-after recap with friends. You stumble out of bed, grab your liquid of choice, and gather around the living room to replay (and remind yourself of) the events of last night. You laugh, you cringe and you share the highest of highs...and the rock-bottom lowest of lows. We thought we'd bring the fun of the recap to CollegeCandy, so grab that coffee and take part in the deliciously awkward moments your CC friends have to share.]

I hadn’t known John* very well, so when I got a text at 11pm saying “I’m bored, come hang out” I should have immediately seen the booty call red flag. Especially because we had set up a first date for the next night, but John was hot and he cracked me up so I was excited to see him. When I got there, he answered the door and immediately shushed me. You see, his parents were sleeping and John wasn’t allowed to have girls over past a certain hour.

Dating a guy who lives with his parents isn’t so awesome, but we’re all broke college students so I tried to understand as he hurried me through the pitch black living room scattered with baby pictures and Precious Moments figurines. I was a little less understanding when he led me straight into an ottoman. I fell, and not a small fall either. I fell down, on the ground, wincing in pain. But again, I was crushing so I picked myself up grabbed his hand and tried not to think about my scraped knee.

John led me to his bed where I was happy to sit and makeout for a little while. After few minutes I started to shy away, realizing that maybe I was sending the wrong signals. I really did want to hang out with John, not just hook up. So I put my libido on hold and tried to get to know him a little better. John wasn’t happy about this and decided to tell me by ignoring me while he watched a baseball game that was on behind me.

The cute factor was starting to wear off.

I was getting annoyed but felt a little better when John showed me some of his work on his computer. I was impressed and swooned and flirted to a place where things finally seemed to be on the right track. Until John signed onto Facebook, that is.

I tried to talk myself through it. “Maybe he just wants to check his messages really quickly… Technology is addicting… Maybe it’s really, really important. Maybe… John’s a douche?” That last one seemed to be the answer because John was now going through his friends and telling me which ones were hot.

I saw the fear on his face as I started to put on my jacket. In an attempt to smooth things over and get me to stay, John whacked me with a pillow so hard it knocked me off the bed and onto the floor. Once I was down, John heard opportunity knocking. This was his charge to “wrestle” me. As John pinned me down, hand dangerously close to my boobs, I panicked.

Things went from bad to worse when John chose that very moment to tell me he was a virgin. It wasn’t that John was a virgin that bothered me, it was the way he said it. As his hands were wrapped around my wrists, John looked me in the eyes and said “if you keep being a real cool girl, maybe something special could happen between us.” Those words will forever be burned in my brain. They were so cringe-worthy and so embarrassing, that I probably would have laughed had I not been worried about being date raped.

I guess cheesy dialogue is my breaking point because in one of my lamest attempts to get the hell out of there, I looked at my watch and said, “Wow its getting late, I should go.” John was shocked.

He regretfully hugged me goodbye before telling me I was sweaty. I squirmed out of the hug and patiently explained to John that I was sweaty because he had me pinned me to the floor. John saw this as a sign that I wanted to be kissed. That was it. I snapped. I pushed john away from me yet again, and shrieked “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?”

Apparently, John was trying to make me comfortable.

As I ran to my car John shouted after me to ask if we were still on for our date the next night. Unfortunately, John didn’t hear me say no over the sound of my tires screeching as I raced out of his driveway. Seems he was distracted by the light that flipped on in his parent’s bedroom. Not that I feel bad for turning him down; he probably would have been grounded for the weekend anyway.

You’ve heard it before, but I’m not going to browbeat you about the immorality of going all the way on the first night. I’m also not going to say, as the London Telegraph does, that you’re likely to drive away relationship material if, as the adage goes, the man “gets the milk for free.” (If that drives him away, then be glad you’re seeing the taillights.) No, take it from a man who knows: there’s a hidden reason that—if you play it right—you should never have sex on a first date.

Holding out on the magic act for at least one night—and even for a number of candlelit evenings after that—will actually improve your sex life with the beau in question, both in the moment and down the line. When you know in advance that you’re not doing the deed, you have no choice but to compensate by exploring the full range of the available possibilities—whatever you dictate them to be.

Setting up limits with new lovers makes both of you focus on the little luscious details that can often get rushed over in the enthusiasm to get it on (especially if you’ve had a few cocktails). And once you’ve let the sexual barrier be broken, it’s harder to go back and work on the glory and wonder of engaging lips, of fingers tracing and teasing, and all the other delights that exist between first and third base.

They are always exciting and romantic and make me weak in the knees. Well, the ones with people I like, at least. I’m not counting those drunken makeout sessions with some creeper who attacks you out of nowhere while you’re enjoying a night out with the girls.

The first kiss is a pivotal moment in any relationship. After waiting forever (be it weeks, days, minutes…), wondering if he/she wants to kiss you as much as you want to kiss him/her, your lips finally meet and it’s all fireworks and passionate background music.

….Or slobbering sounds and teeth knocking into eachother.

Yeah, we may all want that romantic first kiss scene that we’ve seen in all our favorite movies (Slumdog Millionaire) and TV shows (Full House…with the “ooooo”s coming from the fake live audience), but there are a lot of really bad kissers out there. And somehow we keep finding them.

The question is: is a bad kiss enough to turn you off completely? Does a little (ok, a lot of) drool cancel out the great conversation, cute eyes and fact that he actually brought you flowers? Or is that something that can be worked on?
