That’s how I would describe the interview PopEater discusses  in one of their latest posts. Sound familiar to you? Because it does to me. Change the name and I’d totally believe that interview was with Charlie Sheen.  It seems like Pettyfer has taken a page out of the #winning man’s handbook. Except there’s just one problem…

Sheen was once upon a time a big star. And Pettyfer is just now starting out.

Now, in no way am I validating Charlie Sheen’s pompous behavior or justifying his actions by saying he’s a big star and he can do whatever he wants. But at least Sheen had the good sense to get his career going before he went off the deep end. Alex Pettyfer has had two blockbusters movies, and only one celebrity breakup (with a Glee star no less!) and already he thinks it is okay for him to diss Hollywood, L.A., and the movie business in general.

“Being an actor is like being in prison. You go, you serve your time, you try and replicate Johnny Depp’s career and then you move to Paris,”  he told VMAN magazine. Granted, he’s not that far off base. But I’m sure he knew all that before he got into the movie business. And if it was so upsetting, why pursue a career as an actor at all? Why openly hate on Hollywood? You shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you, and you shouldn’t diss the people that pay you.

I woudn’t book that trip to Paris just yet Pettyfer.

While you may think running into Julia Roberts and George Clooney is like catching a bus (it is – but you try catching a bus in L.A.), celebrities aren’t the only thing that make up this wonderful city. That’s why I’m here to guide you through L.A, like a true Angelino. We all know about the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Grauman Chinese Theatre, but what makes this city so great is the little quirky gems that only locals know (and rarely share).

Put on your sunglasses and get ready, the Cali sun isn’t so forgiving.

Best Cupcakes: Heard of Sprinkles? Yes you probably have. It’s where the West Coast Cupcakes craze originated, right at the heart of it all: Beverly Hills. Their famous red velvet cupcake is, in my opinion, the best piece of heaven you will ever have in your mouth. People have compared these cupcakes to crack, because they are just so damn good. You might wait an hour for 5 cupcakes, but it’s so worth it.

Have Your Hot Dog and your Celebrity Sighting Too: If you watch Entourage, you’ve heard of Pink’s (Hollywood) Hot Dogs. It’s where everyone from the hottest celebs to those D-list go to get their hot dog fix. Right off Melrose Ave, the added bonus of getting your tasty hot dog here is you actually might see a celebrity stuffing their face with a wiener. What a sight.

Brunch it Up: While the ladies of The Hills hit up some of L.A.’s hottest brunch spots, they have definitely missed the all time best brunch in L.A. Or maybe even the country. The Griddle Cafe, located in West Hollywood, is unreal. There are no other words. You could go for one of their healthy and totally tasty egg dishes or you can live it up and indulge in the culinary masterpieces those breakfast geniuses are cooking up in the kitchen. My favorite: the french toast coated in Nutter Butter cookies. No, I am not joking. I have been dreaming about that dish since I ate it last summer and I’d camp out for days just to get a bite of it again.

Get Your Tan On: Yes, us Californians do love our beaches…and there are tons of them! But nothing beats the scene and people at Venice Beach, where you can not only get nice and crispy, but also participate in a range of activities: Henna tattoos, skating on the boardwalk, ice cone dipping, and have the most interesting people come up to you for money (I’m looking at you, Mr. Naked Man with dreadlocks).

Nightlife: Los Angeles has a pretty insane bar scene that stretches across this expansive city. If red carpets and velvet ropes aren’t your thing, though, there is still plenty to do. If you’re looking to unwind and grab a drink, Backstage Bar & Grill is the place to be. Known for its food and karaoke, tons of Angelino scram to this bar whenever the Lakers are playing. And if you just want to stroll and enjoy the night, tons of little boutiques in Echo Park might just seal the deal. You’ll find everything from Lady GAGA inspired glasses to some interesting people weirdos. Just walk in packs and you’ll be OK.

Hidden Shopping Gem: Most tourists don’t know about this spot, but here at CollegeCandy, you guys know we always get the scoop. The best place to shop here in the City of Angels is not Rodeo Drive or The Grove, but rather, the Santee Alley in downtown L.A. It’s like New York’s Chinatown but so. much. better. Yes, it’s in an alley and yes, that seems sorta shady, but this little pocket of shopping heaven is a gold mine waiting to be exploited. The stalls are packed with everything you could ever want – trendy dresses, accessories, shoes, bags – at super cheap prices. And I’m not talking horrible Louis Vuitton knock-offs. I scored two pairs of gladiator sandals, eerily similar to $80 Steve Maddens, for $20. TOTAL.

Get Cultural: If you’re super artsy and into museums, LA’s a ton of museums that are to die for. The Getty is a privately owned museum that is known for its eclectic collection, while the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Arts (the MOCA, for short) houses some of the most famous paintings and artworks (Giacometti, anyone?) in history.

Freebies: Hollywood is known for its glitz and glamour, but living in LA also means spending loads of moolah. If you’re looking for some free but really great entertainment then head to the world famous Amoeba Music, a record store that also doubles as a place for famous musicians to do a sit-in show. Don’t believe me? Thom Yorke stopped by a couple of summers ago and performed a free, one hour set. Hail to the Chief, bitch!

If comedy is more your thing, why not go catch a free taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno? You do have to enter yourself for tickets (3-4 weeks in advance is probably best), but it’s free and a great way to spend your afternoon. What could be better: celebs + comedy + music.

And if you want to stay in shape but can’t afford an L.A. gym, head over to Runyon Canyon for an early morning hike. You’ll break a sweat, tighten that butt and get insanely beautiful views of the city.

Please let me take a moment to apologize for a lack of recap on last week’s season premier. I left DVRing up to my mother while I watched MSU get slaughtered in the NCAA championship…. And then came home to find out she doesn’t know how to DVR. (She then backed into my car in the driveway the next morning, which is why I am no longer coming home for Passover. Ruin my life once, shame on me. Ruin my life twice… well, you know the rest.)

The double feature was amazing (the boat party, the trip to Crystal Butte, Spencer throwin’ punches) and I am super grateful that MTV likes to show everything 42 times in a week.  Though I still do not forgive my mother.

Anyways, last night’s episode – while not quite as action packed as last week – was also pretty, pretty good. I always love an awkward interaction and boy did we get it when Stephanie applied for a job with People’s Revolution. Granted, I would be crapping my pants if I had to interview with Kelly Cutrone (her teeth are scarier than her ‘tude), but I would also make sure my resume was perfection before I walked through the door. I would also probably learn the difference between “professional attire” and doing my hair like a meth addict.

But that’s just me.

Kelly took one look at Steph, then chewed her up with those fangs and spit her out.  She doesn’t like Steph, but I think that’s why she hired her. That bitch loves to cut people up, and I can’t wait to see what she does to poor Ms. Pratt.  Although, it can’t be worse than dealing with Spence, right?

Speaking of Spencer, the other major dramz in the episode was with Speidi. Heidi returns to LA from visiting Mama Pratt and immediately starts fighting with the Bearded Spencer. I have to ask: does anyone else notice that when Heidi leaves town Spencer grows a beard? Do you think maybe shaving his face is a couples activity? Ew.

So, Heidi’s back and the couple starts fighting and Spencer acts like a baby. He leaves and decides to “hit the clubs” with his mustached, 40-year-old-looking friend…and the bartender. Heidi and Steph decide to do a little recon work and go to every bar in the city that might be cool that night. Weird! They found him on the first try!

“Oh my gosh, you’re right. He’s here.” Best acting ever, Heidi. So, there is confrontation and name calling (“slut,” “crazy,” “home-wrecker”), but much to my dismay, there is no platinum-weave-pulling.

Heidi spends the night on Steph’s couch and wakes up really distraught about the whole thing….with a lot of perfect makeup on. Now, I’ve slept in my makeup post bar hundreds of times, so I know what that’s like, but I wake up with mascara smeared down my cheek and the bar stamp from my hand rubbed off on my chin. Her hair does look a little like a hot mess, though, so there’s that.

Steph tells Heidi to try therapy. Heidi, who told Spencer never to call her again, meets him for some grub and tells him again never to call her again before she teeters off into the distance with her after-sex hair and way-too-tall heels.

Whew! What an episode! I had lost faith in MTV not-so-reality shows after The City premiered, but, DAYUM, The Hills is so good. I’m sorry I ever doubted you, MTV. Never again.

Last night’s episode of The Hills was monumental. Huge. The early-20s-drama-rific equivalent to the falling of the Berlin Wall.

Well, sorta. The letter went a little something like this:

Dear Lauren,

Heidi Montag

I have so many questions, so let’s get to them. 1) When someone makes a blanket apology, does it count? 2) What exactly is Heidi including in this apology? That she left her BFF to date a total d-bag? That she turned into a plastic bimbo? That she subjected everyone to her horrible “music”? That she spread rumors about LC’s ladyparts to the entire world? 3) How many Heidi’s do you think there are sending LC apology letters that she has to sign her last name? 4) Did Heidi really write this letter, or was this whole thing crafted by Holly to get Spencer out of the picture and let everyone else live happily ever after?

Speaking of Holly – seriously, when did the girl get trendy? Does anyone else remember what she looked like when we met her, like, 3 episodes ago? And now she’s all doin’ her hair all fancy and wearing sparkly dresses…I don’t care if Heidi took her to get a makeover; no one makes a style turnaround that quickly.

But even though I think she secretly stashed a personal stylist in Speidi’s apartment, I am starting to sorta, well, love Holly Montag. The way she stood up to Spencer at the end of the episode after he got all “I’m gonna eff you up for talking about LC.” (Seriouly, I swear that dude is doing something bad to Heidi…she looked so scared of him.) I would like to think she may be the one to get rid of that turd, even though we all know good and well that he’s still around.

Oh yeah. And other things happened last night, too. Audrina went on a date with “the happiest drunk in the world.” He also looked like he showered (point), only had one name (point) and was really sweet to her (even if it was borderline pathetic, point), yet she couldn’t stop talking about Justin Bobby.

Snoozefest.

Thankfully, they will be spicing things up next week with a little skinny dipping action. Otherwise, I can totes do without Audrina and her weird bands and ridiculous body (that I could never have, even if I paid for it).

It’s no secret that here at CC, we love Entourage. HBO and Showtime never cease to entertain with shows like Dexter, Weeds, and True Blood, but for some reason, Entourage has always held a special place in our hearts (and no, it’s not just because of this).

Besides the witty and quippy writing, Entourage is almost always hilarious, last night’s episode being no exception (everyone trips on shrooms in the desert and Ari desperately calls Lloyd to get him through his ordeal). The characters are strange yet likeable, and the Hollywood “scene” has never been drawn quite so wackily. So yeah, we love the show. Love it enough to stay up late on a Sunday night or TiVo it to watch immediately after work.

But here’s the thing: there’s pretty much no way to feel good about your body once the credits roll. A show created, produced, directed, and mostly written by men, Entourage is bursting at the seams with “hot” women. I’ve been watching for 5 seasons, and I honestly can’t remember a time when a female character was anything less than absolute runway material.

Everyone has big boobs. Everyone is thin and tall enough to dunk a b. ball like Michael Jordan. It’s like the casting director opened up a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, pointed to every single girl in there, and made sure she got a spot on the show. Like the producers walked around Vegas with Pied Piper flutes and somehow made the entire population of showgirls, strippers, and car models follow them to LA (perhaps they offered them cookies that would eradicate cellulite?).

This got me thinking; Entourage is great and all, but most likely, it’s written with dudes in mind. Most of the guys in Vinny’s group are less than perfect (E’s four feet tall, Turtle looks like one, Drama isn’t hot in the least, and Ari is on the old side), and yet, they get all the vajayjay they could ever hope for from beautiful chicks who disappear from the plot as soon as they’ve served their purpose.

I’m not trying to be a killjoy; it’s obvious that we love hot strippers and girls with big boobs, but WTF?! There’s more women in the US than there are men — shouldn’t we be granted the right to A) see girls who represent more than just the small model percentage, and B) at least a few guys who are super smokin’?!

We wouldn’t dream of getting pissed off at our favorite show (it’s like getting mad at that adorable frat boy for falling asleep on your shoulder after shotgunning 9 beers), but it seems pretty obvious to us that Entourage could certainly improve it’s female following if they took into consideration just how sensitive some of us are to how we’re represented on screen.

Looks like it’s time to put away that life-sized poster of him you were painting, because Ryan Gosling might just be off the market. According to a few sources, including this one, Ryan recently bought a ring for on-off-on again girlfriend Rachel McAdams. They’ve also been seen checking out houses in LA and Toronto, Canada.

We’re not gonna lie, Gosling is one of our main “shrine-worthy” guys, so if he does get engaged, we will most likely cry a little bit in the corner, waving people away when they come to see what’s wrong, shouting “I’M FINE IT’S JUST DIRT IN MY EYE”…but after that’s done we’ll be happy for them.

We’ve talked about Craigslist countless times before. It’s glorious and hilarious and you can buy chairs or sell your cat. However, after a little chat with our hormonal Coed office buddies, we realized that there was an untapped ocean of entertainment on CL known as Casual Encounters. We knew all about Missed Connections (and may have looked to see, from time to time, if anyone had MC’ed us…which they never did), but had always assumed that the Casual Encounters section of Cragislist was full of skeevy people and penis pics.

So yeah, it’s full of skeevy people and ‘peen pics, but it’s also full of the strange and the weird and the desperate. How entertaining!

A Man I Am Seriously Considering Emailing

More and more people are looking for love online these days and I’ll admit, I’m one of them. Sure, it’s scary and I’ve had my fair share of weirdos or guys who were several inches shorter than what they claimed, or sent pictures from when they were 10 years and 50 pounds lighter, but I’ve also been taken on some pretty amazing dates and met some really cool guys, some of whom I’ve remained friends with. Obviously, my prince hasn’t come along, but maybe the timing just hasn’t been right. I’ve tried a lot of the sites out there; match.com, Plenty of Fish, okcupid, Craig’s List, eHarmony and even Jdate (yes, I’m a shiksa who likes Jewish boys). Thus far, I’ve had the best luck on Craig’s List and the worst luck with match and eHarmony (the one that claims it’ll help you find your soulmate), but as I’m still single, I haven’t had the luck I’m really looking for, so I decided to try out a new site, it’s called crazyblinddate.com, and yes, it’s crazy.

Crazyblinddate.com is run by the same people who run okcupid and it works like this: You go onto their site and click which city you live in (so far they only cover Austin, Boston, Chicago, LA, NYC, and San Francisco), then you choose if you’d rather go on a single or a double date. They inform you that you will be set up on a date at either a bar or a coffee shop (your choice), but you won’t see a picture of them or have any communication with them before your date…can you say, yikes?!?

At this point, you create a profile. Your profile consists of the basics; first name, date of birth, gender, sexual orientation, height, body type, ethnicity, religion, and education level. After that they go into more in-depth questions; “You’ll know because I look like…”, “Things I’m good at talking about…”, “What I expect of a date…” and “Before we go on a date you should know…”. After you answer these, they ask you another series of questions, which they inform you your date will never see (why ask then?). Basically they’re questions about how picky you are when it comes to intelligence, attractiveness and how far you’re willing to go if a date goes well. After that, it’s time to upload your picture. Once you’ve got your profile done and have confirmed your e-mail address, you’re set.

You tell them when you’re available for a date (they’re usually pretty last minute, like that day or the next, though you can go for something further in advance) and you answer some questions about what your preferences are for location/area of the city and your date (ethnicity, height, education level, etc.). This is where I start noticing glitches.

They tell you that your date should not be too far away, but when I click in neighborhoods reasonably close to me, I am told that I need to broaden my horizons for a better chance at getting a date, didn’t they just tell me to keep the date in my ‘hood? Once I add a few more neighborhoods, they tell me I’m being too picky in my preferences and that I’m more likely to get a date if I’m more open-minded. Okay, seriously, I have height and educational preferences, I can’t help it. I’m sorry that I don’t wanna get set up on a date with a 5’6” high school drop out, but I know right off the bat it’s not gonna go well. So I keep my preferences the way they are and hope that they can scrounge up someone for me.

So far, I’ve been offered three dates; they both e-mail and text you when they have a potential date and you have to check them out and see if you want to accept. What you get to check out is a blurred picture of the person, and all the info from their profile. I must admit, reading these guys’ descriptions, I wonder how in God’s name I’ll recognize them in a bar (unless they’re the only brown haired, brown eyed, athletic guy at the bar). I haven’t accepted any of the dates, two of them didn’t work for my schedule and one of them I just got a sense wasn’t going to be a good match for me. So today I log on to see what they have brewing and I’m told that they “almost have a date” for me and there are 29 people they can match me with if I’m a little less picky. They suggest changing my required maximum age and minimum education level. Again, I don’t want a 42 year old who flunked out of college, sorry.

So now I continue to play the waiting game to see if they find a date I feel is worthy of my time and energy to see if it’s possible to find someone you click with if you’ve never had any contact with them or even know what they look like. The saga will continue once I find a date, so stayed tuned kids, things could get interesting…

No one wanted to be on Gossip Girl…at least no one in the Hamptons

T2, Sinceer and Black are the last three standing either in France or in Fort Lauderdale, I still haven’t figured this out. Someone’s going home in the morning, which means that we’re probably in for a sloppy, whiny night. I guess Black and T2 are going to gang up to get Sinceer and her forehead out.

And I was totally wrong – there was no sloppy ‘please don’t eliminate me’ hook up. Flav sits with them as they eat breakfast and pretends to be saddened by the decision that he was to make. He has three tickets in his hands – one to Paris, one to Monaco and one to LA.

T2 and her ginormous gold hoops are going to Paris.

Black hopes that Flav sees her for who she is – if who you are is that pair of massive breasts, then you’re set.

Flav makes Sinceer and Black give him reasons why they should go to Monaco with him and I refuse to listen to this. Apparently Flav doesn’t want to hear it either since it’s a lot of screaming and no words.

He tells Sinceer that he has a great connection with her but that romantically he’s more connected to Black. Frigging finally – I’m glad that Sinceer and her forehead are going to LA.

Monaco is the first stop and I am shocked the VH1 sprung the change for this helicopter ride to Monaco, an Excalibur to get them to their hotel. It’s a fabulous city – far too fab for Flav. Who passes out during the ride.

Black and Flav are staying at the Royal Riviera and there is only time for them to have dinner together, where Flav gives Black a watch with a pink strap and a heart shaped face surrounded by diamonds. I hate it; I’m sure that T2 will love it as much as Black loves it. He then presents her with a list of questions, one of which is, “Can you make me laugh?”

Yeah, probably not. Black, I’ve got a nun joke that I’ll sell to you right now. Not that it matters if she can even speak, he thinks that she’s way, way hot.

He then asks her, “What would our lives be like together?” Oh, please, Flav. “I will treat your child like he’s my own.”

You are neva gonna meet her son. This is all followed by a night cap of yuck. FYI, Flav and VH1, rose petals on a bed are not romantical because they STICK to you.

Next day, T2 and Flav go to Paris together and Flav makes Americans look demure and classy by sticking his head out of the limo moon roof and screaming his name. At least I believe that they are in France with this episode. You can’t get more Parisian than the Louvre and Eifel Tower.

When they get to the hotel, the doorman confuses Flav with Prince. WTF, how could anyone in any country do that?

At dinner, I am utterly shocked that Flav gives T2 the same watch that he gave to Black.

Flav’s got the same list of questions for T2 but at least she can try to tell a really bad joke.

He asks her for a nightcap and the girl said NO. She’s the only one to do it out of all of the FOL seasons. Good for you, T2.

And is it time for ELIMINATIONS!  At long last.

Flav’s doing this last one up “big” because there won’t be a season fo’.

Who will he choose? Big heart or big boobs?

No shock to me – T2 is the winner.

In sum: this was the most boring season ever. And my boredom was due primarily to the fact that this was tired and forced. As I’ve said, no one was there for Flav; Flav was not even there for love.

I felt like in the first season there was some level of need on Flav’s part – like he actually looked sad during the season one reunion that it didn’t work out with Hoopz. Maybe he got wise to it all and tried to make the most (money out) of it.

But of course the REUNION is still to come and Flav proposes. Stay tuned for the very last episode.
