The 8 Hotties of Hanukkah: Jewish Food [GALLERY]

It’s the last night of Hanukkah. Some of you are elbow deep in blue and white wrapping paper, your stack of awesome gifts by your side. Others, like us, are left with nothing but an oily latke breakout; fond memories of Hanukkahs of  yore; and pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal’s six-pack, Drake’s tasty mug, Zach Braff’s adorableness, Mark Salling’s general hotness, Jason Segel’s not-so-full frontal, Daniel Radcliffe’s across-the-pond sexiness and Andy Samberg’s boyish good looks bookmarked on our computers.

Either way, there’s one last candle to light and we saved the yummiest for last.

Sure we love good-looking, funny, charming, magical, stand-up comedian, scrub-wearing Jewish men. But at the end of the day, our hearts lay with our one true love: Jewish food. Rain or shine, straightener or no-straightener, memorable Bat Mitzvah party favor or throwaway gift, Jewish food has always been there for us. Through the ups and the downs, the millions of yearly Jewish holidays, and the sadness that comes when no TV show – not even Glee – recognizes Hanukkah during the holiday season.

And that’s why we saved the last candle for our favorite cuisine. Read More »

All I Want for Hanukkah is a Nice Jewish Boy

Almost as good as latkes. Mmmmm.

Put on your yarmulke, it’s time for Hanukkah! (Chanukkah? Hhannuukkka? I’ve heard there might be a silent “j” in there somewhere…)

Everyone’s favorite Maccabee-inspired, latke-flavored, menorah-lit, better-than-Christmas—yeah, I said it—holiday starts tonight at sundown. And even though I’m hoping to get a few specific gifts this year, there’s only one thing I really want to find wrapped in a giant box on Day Eight: a nice, Jewish boy. I don’t think it’s too much to ask; I go to school in New York City, for Moses’s sake.

But I’m not the only one who should be angling for some Semitic lovin’ this holiday season. Dating Jewish boys is the best, and everyone should do it. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked:

-  They’re funny. If you need proof, Wikipedia has 228 pages in its “Jewish comedians” category. Sure, a lot of them—Woody Allen, Al Franken, Howard Stern—aren’t exactly dreamboats. But Seth Rogen, Michael Showalter, Jon Stewart (real name: Jon Stuart Leibowitz), and plenty of other dudes are the whole package: Jewish, funny, and cute.

- Even if your Jewish guy doesn’t have a quick wit, he might have a Jew fro, which is probably hilarious enough to compensate.

-  Jewish dudes have so many neuroses that your quirks will seem tame and adorable by comparison. Read More »

Body Blog: Stay Strong (and Fit) During the Holidays

bakedlatkes.jpgIt is really easy to throw caution to the wind and dive headfirst into holiday dinners, cocktails and leftovers (a few hours later.) Unfortunately, it is not so easy to rid your body of the fat and calories the next day. So, instead of letting yourself go crazy for the holidays this year (“But my mom only makes this peanut buttery chocolatey heavenly dessert once a year!”), why not try a little moderation?

Don’t worry; you can still eat some of the chocolatey peanut butter thing.

1. Exercise: Whether it is Christmas dinner, or a plate full of latkes, you know you will be eating something out of the ordinary (and off the charts in terms of calories) this holday season. Prepare in advance by getting a workout in. Most gyms are open – even on Christmas day – so don’t use the holiday as an excuse to take a vacation from fitness. Unless you want everyone to buy you a size up in the clothes on your holiday wish list.

2. Eat Before You Go: Whenever I go to holiday meals I tend to starve myself all day to make room for the scrumptious treats that will be served. That is a good idea in theory, until I find myself taking second and third servings of very unhealthy foods (and feeling horribly guilty/angry at myself later). Don’t go to these meals hungry! Eat a little snack before you go to curb your hunger, that way you can have a little bit of the foods you love without going completely overboard. Read More »

Jewno: Funnier Than The Original?

You know what’s funny? When people make fun of over-hyped things. You know what else is funny? When people satirize their own religion. And since I’m not Jewish (but should be, considering how many Jewish people I chill with on a regular basis), I’ll refrain from saying anything except that I find this clip hilarious.
