I don’t think I’ve ever seen Lauren Conrad in an outfit I’ve hated. Considering she’s been on my radar since the first episode of Laguna Beach aired many, many, many moons ago, that’s no small feat. She has mastered the art of understated chic, whether she’s strolling through LA or strutting down a red carpet.

I’m totally loving the chunky striped sweater. It’s bold, but since the colors are so neutral, it’s very versatile. Pairing it with skinny jeans veers the outfit towards a more casual, relaxed aesthetic. Lauren chose a brown bag to accessorize with, which I think is great. Brown is kind of an underrated color, especially since many people are afraid to pair it with black, but a rich brown complements almost any color. Leopard print shoes finish off the ensemble and add some unexpected contrast. This is a perfect autumn day look.

It seems like celebrities these days have to be Jacks (or Janes) of All Trades. If you’re a singer then you’re a dancer and if you’re a dancer then you’re an actor. It means that while the celebrities (like chic gone crazy Kate Moss) are spending $5,000 and more on an ensemble, you an spend way less...and save the rest for Margarita Mondays.]

Lauren Conrad is completely and utterly brilliant. She has somehow managed to parlay getting paid to turn her teenage/college-aged angst into an empire. She has a clothing line, a series of books (that I am unabashedly addicted to, btdubs), a lifestyle website (how very Gwyneth), and is a staple on best dressed lists. And to think, it all started because she was willing to put her dramz on a platter for all of us to devour on a weekly basis.

She’s basically our generation’s Einstein, with far better hair. Lauren’s style is amazing in its simplicity. It’s classic without being dull and trendy without being cliche. She has created an effortlessly unique blend of aesthetics, from preppy to boho to beach chic.  Her night looks are among some of my favorites because they’re always very simple and demure, which can be a nice change of pace.

Top, Skirt, Pumps, Bag

This button-up blouse is a gorgeous color, and very versatile. You could pair it with suits, shorts, skinny jeans, or, like Lauren, a high-waisted skirt.  Lauren’s navy/black floral skirt is so faboo.  It’s an interesting twist on a spring pattern, and it’s a great spring/summer night time piece. “Nude” continues to be a hot shade for accessories because it adds an instant burst of chic sophistication and is incredibly versatile. I love the chain strap on Lauren’s bag because it adds a little bit of character without being overwhelming. This is a great look if you’re feeling a little more conservative, but still want to dazzle anyone who sees you with your delightful style.

I mean Jenelle Evans? Does that name ring a bell with anyone? Does she sound like a celebrity to any of you? No?

That’s because she’s not. But yet she was on Celebuzz.com. Apparently there seems to be this misguided notion nowadays that  if you appear on a reality TV show you automatically reach celebrity status. But that’s  just not how it works. Or, at least that’s not how it should work.

I mean how exactly do we define the word celebrity these days? And if people like Jenelle Evans are making the cut, is it time to ask ourselves if our standards are too low? Now I’m not staying that reality TV stars can’t be celebrities. You can’t deny  Kim Kardashian or even LC that right. But any person from any old random reality TV show? Isn’t that taking it a bit too far? I mean why don’t we just throw up some pictures of Kate Gosselin and call it a day? Oh wait, we’ve done that already.

Celebrities are supposed to be household names, ideally people who have even accomplished something. They are famous individuals, people who are world renown, people with recognizable names. They’ve embedded themselves in pop culture. Lady Gaga. Ke$ha. Britney Spears. Even LiLo and Miley. We all know who  they are. Jenelle Evans? Not so much. And if it were up to me it would stay that way.

But what about you, CollegeCandies? What do you think makes a person worthy of celeb status? Are our standards too low? Or does reality TV equal instant fame?

So for those of you not in the know, Bieber cut his luscious locks. I should admit I don’t have Bieber fever, and I actually think he looks 10 times better without that awkward swoop thing that Tom Brady Stole. Which brings me to my next point…why is this news? Why is this a top story of all my favorite celebrity blogs?

I get hair cuts all the time and it never stops the presses, so why should Bieber’s new shag be talked about like it actually means anything? Or our favorite friend, Jen’s, new style (which isn’t new for anyone who actually watched ‘Friends’).

Shouldn’t we be more focused on other things, like I don’t know…their talent? Career? Upcoming movies? Or anything else remotely interesting? But their hair — I mean, come on people, when did celebrities’ hair styles become more popular than the celebrities themselves?
