When I fight with my mom, it’s usually about stupid things like money, school, what I’m doing with my life, and all that good stuf. But when you’re a celebrity, life gets a little more complicated. For Leighton Meester, arguments with her mom are over things like medical bills and plastic surgery.

According to to TMZ, Leighton sent $7,500 to her mother to help with her brother’s medical expenses, but then claims her mother spent that money on cosmetic surgery for herself. Aside from that craziness, her mom is now insisting Leighton sends her an additional $10,000 per month to make up for what was lost.

Now, I don’t know all the details, but what I DO know is that Mrs. Meester is insane. I’m pretty sure she gave birth to Leighton while in jail for marijuana smuggling, and remained in prison for years after giving birth. Leighton really deserves some credit for making something of herself under tough circumstances. I mean, who would’ve thought Blair Waldorf was born behind bars?

When it comes to this whole court case, it’s times like these when I remember what Judge Judy taught me: always ask for receipts. Leighton should demand receipts from the hospital to make sure her brother was taken care of, and she should try to get some sort of receipt that proves her mom actually got plastic surgery. Without proof, this case is something straight out of Judge Joe Brown.

But just so we’re clear, I’m on Team Leighton. Who’s with me? We should make shirts!

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Leighton Meester is Pretty in Peach

I’ve gushed about Leighton Meester before, but what can I say, I have my faves (I even paid to see Monte Carlo the weekend it came out…and legitimately enjoyed every cheesetastic second of it). I fell totally head over heels for the outfit Leighton recently wore on the set of Gossip Girl. It is ridiculously frilly, bold and boasts not a single layer in sight. I don’t know about you, but when it’s 94847383 degrees outside, that’s exactly what I want from my summer couture.

Embellished Tank Top / Floral Skirt / Bag / Heels

Of course yellow is a staple summer color. It’s just as vibrant as white, but doesn’t seem to attract as much dirt (seriously, my life turns into a comedic tragedy of klutzy errors almost every time I wear it). The ruffles on this tank top are very much on trend and are an instant burst of shameless femininity. The floral skirt adds a classic pattern into the mix, and the yellow in the skirt complements the yellow tank top.

As for accessories, Leighton’s outfit incorporates peach, which is so perfect for the season. It’s neutral, but still punchy, and the good thing is, you don’t have to worry about perfectly matching the shades. A dark peach purse looks totally acceptable with lighter peachy orange heels. This is a refreshing outfit that has very versatile separates that you could wear to work or the bar or to brunch. Functionality is always hot.

Can I get some Red Bull up in here? I’m majorly struggling right now. It’s like the crash that comes after eating a bag of Sour Patch Kids, only instead of sugar I was hopped up on sequins and cleavage and Brad Pitt’s sunglasses.

Yes, you know I’m talking about the glamour that was the Golden Globe’s Red Carpet.

Of course there are always lots of entertaining moments in the award show itself (Ricky Gervais was hosting, after all), but like most ladies with an eye for fashion, the true highlight of the show comes before it even starts. And last night’s show before the show did not disappoint. From the stunning shoes (I’m looking at your hidden feet, Olivia Wilde!) to the bright hues (word to your mother, Angelina) to the style doo doos (how else do you describe Christina Aguilera’s ‘fit?), the 2011 Golden Globes red carpet had me on the edge of my futon.

So after 3 hours of acceptance speeches during which I did some careful consideration (and drank a few glasses of Franzia), I bring you the best dressed, worst dressed, most WTF dressed and, just for fun, the sexiest men of the 2011 Golden Globes.

Even Hollywood Starlets Have Bad Weeks

I’ll admit it, I’m (extremely) jealous of the Hollywood A-Listers’ lives. They have perfect bodies, perfect teeth, skin, boyfriends/girlfriends, houses and careers! Not to mention the loads of money they have from all of their hit movies/TV shows/albums/random endorsements (Proactive, anyone?). They get to live in exotic places, travel to even more exotic places, and never have to wear anything twice. Plus, they have people waiting on them hand and foot. Come on, just once I’d love to pass off doing my laundry to someone else.

But I’m beginning to see that maybe their lives aren’t total perfection. Yes, like Us Weekly tells us every Wednesday, stars really are just like us, and that means that they can have rough weeks too. In fact, their bad weeks make my “OMG, I have 3 tests and Gossip Girl isn’t on and I just tore my Sevens when I was doing my post-laundry lunges!” week seem like a walk in the park.

Leighton Meester is my favorite person ever to exist. I know, that’s a totally insane bold statement considering her contribution to society is a few catchy tunes and an embarrassingly addictive teen drama, but seeing as how she is the woman who brought the fierce, fashionable, crazy-bitch-in-charge Blair Waldorf to life, I think she deserves over-the-top accolades.

I admit, Leighton’s personal style may not be Upper East Side/recessionista unfriendly as Blair’s, but she has an unassuming, down-to-earth, accessible sophistication that I admire.

Dress, Wedges, Purse, Sunglasses

This dress is totally another reason to wear white after Labor Day. The texturing makes it interesting – you don’t even have to do a ton of accessorizing to elevate it to super stylish. The espadrilles are totally casual, but are not nearly as blasphemous and slobby as flip flops. You can easily transition this dress into fall/winter by adding tights and swapping the wedges for boots. Throw on a blazer and this breezy look becomes sleek and (slightly less importantly) weather appropriate.
