For most normal college grads the time directly after the cap tossing/couch burning/heavy drinking of graduation weekend comes a period of extreme depression mixed with a tinge of confusion that leads many to make rash decisions.

For some, this means getting a job in Investment Banking or getting (gasp) engaged. For others, this means getting a pet.

Whatever choice they make it is important to remember that college does nothing to prepare us to make such decisions or for any sort of real life after we move out of our student housing, clutching our hard earned (ha!) degree.

So, for those of you entering college in the fall or currently enjoying the amazingness that it is, allow me, a recent college finisher, to shed some light and expose the truth. College is awesome. College is drunk.

Okay so over the years my mom has nagged, yelled, lectured and given me advice more times than I can count.

Whether it be a problem with a friend or the way I am folding my laundry, my mom has something to say about it. I often roll my eyes or tune her out, but tonight I had an epiphany. I found myself five times saying “my mom always says….” Clearly my Momma knows what she is talking about! I bet yours does too (at least more than we give them credit for)

Finals are just around the corner. Job interviews are being had. Apartments in new cities are being looked for.

Holy shit. College is ending.

And I am having a serious breakdown.

1. What the hell am I going to do with my English degree?

2. When am I going to see my friends again?

3. Where am I going to live?

4. How am I going to support myself without the help of my dad (who I have totally wrapped around my finger, might I add)?

5. What am I going to do when the college life I have gotten so accustomed to is over?

I know that these are things most people thought about months ago (especially the job stuff!), but I am really bad at accepting reality.
