Let’s face it: we all make stupid decisions. Like choosing a fifth over a review session, or bringing that guy home…who stole our iPod in the morning. That’s part of college life… and a big part of what makes it so memorable. But there are some choices that have longer lasting repercussions; things we do now that will haunt us later.

So here are the 11 things from your 20’s you will most definitely regret when you’re 40.

11. Risque Internet Photos: What’s the point of having technology if you can’t use it to send a naughty pre-shower photo to your BF? Nothing will turn him on quite like a naked photo popping up in his inbox while he’s brushing up on his Stats knowledge. You trust him, so what’s the worst that could happen? How about a break up? Or the “forward” button? No matter what you think, those photos are going to come back and bite you in the (naked-with-a-spot-of-cellulite) ass. Just show him the real thing and let him turn to his imagination (or internet porn) for a mid-class pick me up.

10. Trendy Tats: You totally love butterflies/stars/unicorns now, but I can bet money that you won’t want them plastered on the top of your foot or your lower back forever. No one wants to see a mom with a rose tattoo on her left shoulder, so think before you ink.

9. Choosing guys over your girls: You get caught up in your relationship sometimes and blow off the girls. Fine, we get it. But when sometimes turns into “What the hell ever happened to Mary?” there is a problem. Especially when Mr. Douche Bag finally breaks up with you and you come crawling back to the girls with a tub of Edy’s and a box of tissues and they aren’t there to wipe the snot from your cheek. Do you really want to spend the rest of your days holed up in a dirty apartment watching your man play Rock Band and chug Natty Light? Learn the balance, honey.

8. Getting married too young: I’ve seen it too many times – people graduate, freak out and hold onto whatever they can of their youth. And they get married.  And become super lame married people. It may be pure bliss now (and lots and lots of kitchen-ware), but just think about all the awesome stuff you will miss by being tied down in your twenties, all that freedom: to travel when you want, to take a job wherever you want, to sleep with whomever you want, to party as late as you want, to discover yourself, to sleep with whomever you want…. Plus, do you really want pictures of your friends doing keg stands in your wedding album? I thought not.

7. Smoking: Mmmm tobacco. It feels so good when it hits (and consequently blackens) your lungs. Especially after you’ve had a few Rum and Diets. And you look so cool doing it. But you know what doesn’t feel good? Chemo. And you know what doesn’t look cool? Your wrinkley face or your kids stealing the pack from your tobacco stained purse and trying it for the first time. When they are 6. This sh*t will kill you, so stop it. Right now! Seriously, put down that Marlboro Light, sister.

6. Not traveling enough: Trust me on this one – you will never have the time, money or freedom to travel like you do now.  Pretty soon you’ll be working late nights and counting down the minutes until the that will be chock full of grocery runs and Bed, Bath and Beyond trips. Try finding time in that busy schedule to jet-set to Europe and “find yourself.” Pack your bags and see the world now, before you’re too old to experiment with drugs in Amsterdam and enjoy a ping pong show in Bangkok.  Pick up a travel book and start planning!

5. Bad Credit: You can’t live without that Coach bag right now. You just have to have that DVF dress for the date party. Everyone else has an iPhone and you want one too. You’ll just charge it and worry about it later, right? Wrong, bitches. Ruining your credit now on stupid stuff (yes, I am telling you that bag is a stupid investment) will totally eff things up for you in the future. Things like getting a house, a car, a boyfriend (bad credit is a total turn-off) and sometimes even a job. Spend wisely, ladies. That bag is going to be out of style in .25 seconds anyway.

4. Not finishing school: Do we really even need to mention this one? Could you think of anything you’d regret more when you are 40 and working the checkout lane at your neighborhood Wal-mart? That is, assuming, you can even get that job in this economy.

3. Pre-vacation tanning: You tell yourself that you just want to get a base tan before Spring Break in Cabo. Sure, you will look fiiiine in that white shift dress for the 6 days after you return, but that wrinkley, skin cancer-ed mess is not going to look so hot when you’re 40 and you look like a Sharpei.

2. Stilettos: Part of becoming a woman is rockin’ the hottest pair of the highest heels. They make your legs look sick (that’s a good thing), make the men beg, and your jeans are too long to wear with anything lower. Why wouldn’t you wear them? I’ve got one hyphenated word for you: hammer-toes. You want to spend the later part of your life looking at that in a sandal?  Make your Feet Happy with these ultra comfy and cute socks..

(Editor’s note: I was going to put a picture of a gross foot here, but you Google “gross feet in sandals” and tell me how it makes you feel.)

1. “It feels better without condoms” sex: You’ll probably regret this one right off the bat as you spend your senior year chasing a kid around the dorms, but you’ll seriously regret it later when you look back at your life and realize how much you missed out on because you were busy changing diapers and bouncing a kid on your knee. Oh, and no one likes a woman with a bumpy vagina. I’m just sayin’; those genital warts will never go away.

I’m a huge fan of lists. Not to-do lists or grocery lists or my “list” (you know which one I’m talking about), but lists of things with bold faced sections that I can read through quickly and have a little chuckle. Or lists where I can vent my pent up frustration that I have been holding onto for years in hopes that the people at the root of that frustration will see the list, change their ways and make my life a whole lot more pleasant.

And that is what’s happening here. There are some people out there – lots of them – who say some pretty annoying stuff, so this week I’m gonna lay out the 10 most annoying phrases of all time. If you say any of these things, please stop. If you constantly say them all, please never come near me. Especially if I’m holding anything sharp.

10. “Just Sayin’”
End every sentence with this, really. Like I didn’t know you were saying something.

9. “On the real”
No. No. Not on the real. It’s been real, “on the real”. For real

8. “What the hey”
So cheesy, Chester Cheeto can’t even deal.

7. “Catch ya on the flip flop”
What does this even mean? Other than the obvious: don’t be my friend.

6. “Rock and Roll”
It’s time to go. Not time to Rock and Roll. Unless you want to smash up a hotel room and do lines off of supermodels, but I’m pretty sure you’re just telling me it’s time to leave the mall.

5. “No offense but…”
What I’m about to say is going to be strongly offensive.

4. “Double Yew Tee Eff, Oh Emm Gee or Bee Tee Dubs”
Really? Spelling out AIM acronyms in real life?

3. “I totally changed. It’s like I did a complete 360.”
So you spun in a circle? Good for you.

2. “Anyhoooooooo”
Self-explanatory.

1. “Literally/Essentially/Extensively”
First of all, why is it that anyone who uses these phrases uses them at the wrong time? Example: The days flew by, literally. Really? Did the days LITERALLY FLY BY? The days sprouted wings and fluttered away from you? Secondly, you are not intelligent just because you begin every sentence with “Essentially.” Don’t want.

Happy Friday the 13th, everyone! There’s nothing quite like having the living crap scared out of you for the sake of a little fun.  And as luck would have it, today is the day to celebrate all that is creepy, crawly and down right horrifying.

For some of us serial killers, axe murderers and zombie brides make us scream out in fear; for me, it’s just about everything else. Even the idea of mesh shirts, Mr. Clean (I can’t explain it, something about his bald head and disapproving glare terrify me) and bad Botox are enough to make me cringe. The sight of one of these alone will have me under the covers until someone soothing coaxes me out with the promise of hot cocoa and a hug.

So in honor of the most horrifying holiday of all holidays, bring on the blood, the gore, and the headless corpses because I have a list of fears that are way worse. Grab something cuddly, have the hot cocoa ready and check out ten ways to be terrified this Friday the 13th.

I love books. I do. For me, reading is a passion, something I can’t imagine life without.

But sometimes, when it’s really super-summer hot, the thought of focusing your sweat-brimmed eyes enough to read a novel is just plain agonizing. Not to mention those dreadful rainy days when you are forced to stick it out indoors.

So here, for your viewing pleasure, I propose some alternative summer rentals (film = another love of my life). Some of these are weird and some are, well, weirder. But hopefully you’ll enjoy at least some of them as much as I have.

Oldboy

Okay, don’t watch this if you don’t like to feel very, very uncomfortable. (I do want to say, however, that this is my favorite movie of all time.)

Oldboy is a Korean film (director Chan-wook Park, for whom Oldboy is part of a trilogy; Park also directed the lovely I’m a Cyborg and That’s Okay), part of the wave of innovative Korean filmmakers that was going on a few years ago. It’s the story of a man who is suddenly kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years. By the time he gets out, the only thing he cares about is finding out who imprisoned him and why–and getting revenge.

Oh yeah, and it’s based on a comic book, so it’s extremely graphic. You’ve been warned.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

…In which the “angry inch” refers to the bit of man-part left over after a botched sex-change operation.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a phenomenal film about a transexual rocker who came to the United States to escape Germany before the fall of the Berlin wall. It’s a funny and sad story about identity and love…and did I mention it’s a punk-rock musical? Do not miss this one. I have yet to meet someone who’s seen this movie who didn’t absolutely love it.

Ghost World

Napoleon Dynamite ain’t got nothing on this quirky teenage coming-of-age story. Also based on a comic book, Ghost World features great talent Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi, and you also get a look at Scarlett Johansson when she was still cute… and could act.

Ghost World is a tale of slightly surrealist teenage dissatisfaction and choosing one’s own path to adulthood. Enid and Rebecca are inseparable when they’re misfits in high school, but when they graduate, things start to fall apart. Throw in Steve Buscemi as a very uncomfortable love interest, a weird old guy on a bench who is waiting for a bus that never comes, and a whole lot of sad music and funny moments, and you’ve got a really great movie.

28 Days Later

Don’t be disillusioned by the horror schlock that was 28 Weeks Later. The original of the to-be trilogy, 28 Days Later, is a brilliant comment on society without once becoming heavy-handed. When Jim wakes up from a coma, he finds his hometown of London all but abandoned…until he starts encountering zombies.

Under the guise of “horror movie,” 28 Days Later is funny and sad and so much more about the people in the movie than about the zombies.

The Host

Another in the new wave of Korean cinema, The Host is a monster movie. Let’s be clear about that–it really is a monster movie.

However, more importantly, it’s a story about a family’s love and dysfunction, and it’s at points both hysterically funny and incredibly sad. I, along with most of the rest of the audience when I saw this in the movie theater, literally both laughed and cried.

This is not a movie that is deeply intellectual (unless you’re thinking about the current Korean political situation, in which case, yes, it says a lot), but it is a real emotional ride and a joy to watch. This little gem has gone widely unnoticed, but I promise you won’t regret seeing it. Just make sure you watch it with subtitles, NOT dubbed.

Which brings me to #1:

1) It lets me see who all my exboyfriends are dating.

I really, really don’t want to know.

Which probably means I should delete them as friends, or at least use that spiffy little thing that lets you control who you don’t want to see on your newsfeed. But I, quite frankly, do not posess the willpower.

Everytime I log on to Facebook, some douche I haven’t talked to since high school has sent me a request. What the hell is it? Just another annoying application, but one that finds itself to be very cute. I am tempted to unfriend these people, but sadly I am more lazy than vindictive.

3) Zombies, Vampires, whatever crappy and annoying thing of yours is attacking whatever crappy and annoying thing of mine.

What’s with the macabre attacks, huh?! LISTEN TO ME: I DO NOT WISH TO BE THE UNDEAD. Especially not on a social networking site.

The only bloodsucking creature I want to attack lives in Brooklyn and smokes Cloves. Have your Hipster attack my Emo Kid and then we’ll talk.

4) Being added by DJs and Club Promoters.

Okay. Fine. I admit it. I promoted for a club, BRIEFLY, and therefore opened myself up to this.

But I gotta tell you, I don’t want to be your friend. I don’t want to go to your event. And I really, really don’t want to get your messages three times a week about how great it (and you) are. And I think about sending these guys a message that says so, but it’s just Facebook and it never quite seems worth it.

(5) Wall Posts From People You Don’t Like.

Especially girlfriends or boyfriends of your friends.

Because Facebook etiquette demands you respond to all wall posts.

Also because then it shows up on everyone else’s newsfeed and they think you actually like this person you can’t stand.

I mean, I like to maintain open communication. Unless I don’t like you. And then I want to maintain nothing.

But it’s such a jerk thing to do to defriend. So instead I respond politely and take a shower to wash off the lies.

Well. Having read over this post, I have come to realize that it’s my own irritating laziness that’s driving me crazy, not Facebook itself.

In an emergency Paramedics and EMTs will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.

“ICE” stands for In Case of Emergency.

If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly.

It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.

ICE your cell phone NOW! All the cool college whipper-snappers are doin’ it!

It’s a time for lists, and packing, shopping, lists, and laundry, and did I mention lists?

Not only do you have to worry about transporting your enormous shoe collection (“I swear I’ll wear those grey pumps this year. I need them! They were on sale!”), but you’ve also got to fumble around with a bedspread, desk supplies, towels, food, microwaves, laptops, all of it. Your whole life and being.

It’s a bit stressful.

Luckily we here at CC have taken the time aside to compile a list of ten things you most definitely should not forget:

1. Digital camera. Trust us, there will be many a worthy photo op, (though I suppose a four story beer funnel doesn’t really qualify as a thoughtful Kodak moment) and who doesn’t enjoy a trip down memory lane later on? Besides, what else will you show your grandchildren? (“…and this is granny doing a kegstand…and this is granny dancing on the bar…oh yes! There’s grams kissing a nice boy…what? No, no…not grandpa…”)

2. Lots of spare change. You’ll be surprised how much laundry you’ll have, namely your sheets. It used to be a Sunday morning tradition during the school year, for a guy friend down the hall (who gained a beaming record as drunken bed-wetter) to enter our room collecting spare quarters. We coined it, “the piss stain fund.”In case you’re unconvinced, (those of us who manage to control our bodily functions most likely), my sister will tell you different.

In the trusting world of dorm life, a pair of her friends kept their door unlocked as they drifted off to sleep one Saturday night. Later, one of the girls was rudely awoken by a drunken boy who’d mistaken her bed for his own, and climbed in with her! This same boy then proceeded to poop in her bed. Yes, I said poop, and no, this is not an urban legend. It is fact. He was called ‘the shitter’ for the rest of the year, until he desperately transferred universities to escape his horrifying reputation. The moral of the story: when laundry duty calls, don’t find your piggy bank empty.

3. Your freedom. In the word of college this indavertently means…your boyfriend. I’m all for making a relationship work if you’re both really in it for the right reasons, but in all honesty? I’d say about ninety percent of my friends who began college with a significant other had dropped them by Valentine’s Day. It’s college, i.e. practically an antonym for monogamy. I’ve seen guy friends cheat on the girls they’re seemingly in love with left and right, and I don’t know what it is.

It could be blamed on being young and immature, it could just be the booze (though I’d never deem that a worthy excuse), but whatever it is, college really is a cesspool of extreme temptation (be it that 2 AM calzone you’re considering ordering or that cute boy down the hall that you’re sure delivers). We at CC would just hate to see you miss out on a fun and crazy social experience all in the name of l-u-s-t. Not worth it.

4. A boomin’ sound system. Yeah yeah, you have that dorm noise policy or whatever. Blasting JT & Fiddy at 9 pm though while you’re mid-pregame and makeup regimen could not get you or your roommate more pumped for the night. College deserves its own soundtrack, arguably the best mix ever.

5. Beer bong. Preferably this one, so you don’t have to run past your RA’s room with a large neon green funnel. Another brilliant option would be this genius shotgun contraption, for those of us who share the same love for pounding brew, but with a more pronounced gag reflex. Whatever gets the job done!

6. Deck of cards. Drinking games: the best way to procrastinate on a Monday night.

7. Red Bull in bulk. Besides the whole calories, bad for you shpeel (whatevs) it’s the best chaser and Godsent on a hungover Thursday morning. Skipping too many classes will ultimately bite you in the butt.

8. Multiple alarm clocks. One friend’s didn’t go off on the morning of her whopper final exam. She showed up twenty minutes late, sweaty, with her pants on backwards and inside out. The door was at the front of the lecture hall. She will never be the same.

9. Video Chat. On an Apple computer or via webcam, it’s the best way to keep in touch with high school friends who opted for different universities. Even to keep in touch with mom! (“Hi Mom, this is my roooom, and this is my handle of vodkaaaa…”)

10. Dare. Confused? When someone asks you truth or dare, be the type of person to pick dare. The most important thing to remember in college is social willingness, to be friendly, and open to meeting new people. Take chances, brave risks, dare. If that bellydancing club looks cool to you, join it. Sit next to the cute boy in your Astronomy class, and gasp, ask him if you can borrow his pencil. These little things are going to pay off, and you’re going to be happy you put yourself out there.

Now go party for goodness sake! You’re in college!
