Sundays Are For Procrastinating: Best Movie Dance Scenes

I’m a dancer, so you can bet that the second anyone starts to dance in a movie, I’m paying attention. Sometimes I go on YouTube binges where I spend hours and hours looking at dance videos. But I don’t just enjoy watching videos of professional dancers onstage – I love movie dance scenes, too. And believe it or not, great dancing pops up in unexpected places. Sure, Dirty Dancing and Center Stage have big group dances. But do you remember the dance scene in (500) Days of Summer? Check out these videos of some of the best movie dance moments. Read More »

The Perfect Snow Day Movie Marathon

I’m originally from Jackson Hole, WY – one of the coldest, snowiest places in the country. But even though blizzards there are as commonplace as rats in a subway station, I never had a single snow day growing up. Why, you ask? Because when it snows all the time, it’s nothing special, and school just goes on. But I always wanted a snow day so, so badly.

In honor of my childhood dream, here’s a list of movies for the perfect snow day marathon. I recommend combining this list of comedies, thrillers, and childhood flashbacks with some hot chocolate and a cute cuddle partner!

10 Things That Happen in (Almost) Every Christmas Movie

It’s that time of year again, when the weather is getting colder, and the semester is coming to an end, and there’s a reminder of the holiday season everywhere you turn. From Christmas carols to wrapping paper, to baked goods, the usual December suspects are all around us. But nothing truly says the holiday season quite like Christmas movie marathons. Like the rest of the world, I started the holiday season a little early this year, so I’ve been watching Christmas moves since before Thanksgiving. And I have to say after watching about six (or sixty) of them, I’m beginning to notice a few similarities.

The 50 Best Actors Who Aren’t in New Years Eve

Around the holidays it seems that Hollywood believes America has no taste since we’re all practically comatose from eating and drinking too much.  Producers spew out star-studded movies like New Year’s Eve hoping that you’ll see it based on the one actor you like in it (example: I have a soft spot for Zac Efron). And, yeah, they’re right, but I also want to support the actors who aren’t in the movie. You know, the ones who made a conscious decision to avoid a dumbed-down, cliche holiday script designed to tug on our heartstrings with trite themes and an obvious plot.

As a high-five to those who have a little respect for their craft and abstain from crappy money-makers, here’s my list of 50 actors who are (thankfully!) not in New Year’s Eve. Read More »

‘Tis the Season to Watch Cheesy Movies: The 15 Best Holiday Films

elf_poster.jpgThanksgiving has passed, everything is on sale, and Christmas carols fill the air of every store you go into–yes, the holiday season is in full swing. The next few weeks will be filled with parties, goodies, family time, shopping and avoiding those frigid temps when you can. A great way to do this? Put on some cozy PJ’s, bust out the popcorn, hot cocoa, cider or egg nog, and watch some heartwarming holiday movies.

Nothing puts me into a more jolly mood than these holiday classics (in no particular order)…

1) It’s a Wonderful Life: You’d have to be a total Scrooge not to tear up at this movie about a suicidal man who is reminded of how beautiful his life is (played by the always amazing Jimmy Stewart). It will forever stand as one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time.

2) Home Alone: This movie made Macaulay Culkin the biggest child star on the planet and had audiences around the world roaring as he gave two burglars a Christmas butt whoopin’.

3) Miracle on 34th Street: This classic story about a man claiming to be Kris Kringle being put on trial for legal insanity will make anyone a believer in Old Saint Nick.

4) Love Actually: Not only does this British flick have a fantastic cast (Colin Firth, Keira Knightly, Liam Neeson and Emma Thompson), but it’s a truly lovey dovey romantic comedy that is guaranteed to make ya feel extra cozy.

5) A Christmas Story: This hilarious 80′s movie about a truly American Christmas has stemmed so many famous lines and scenes, people all over the world recognize them: “You’ll shoot your eye out!” (Get’s me every time!) You can even buy that (in)famous sexy leg lamp. Read More »

The CC Weekly Weigh In: Time for a Study Break!

tv.jpgUgh. Finals. Is there anything worse? You sorta coast through the entire semester with nothing to do but some really boring reading and then – BAM – you have to take a giant test that determines your entire grade (and possibly future). Yeah, that’s not stressful or anything.

So now you are stuck in the library for days at a time trying to stuff 4 classes worth of info into your alcohol-tainted brain. And you need an effing break! What do you do? Here is what CollegeCandy’s writers do for their much needed study break:

Sues – University of New Hampshire: My whole day is pretty much a series of study breaks since I continuously get sucked into the Internet and realize that I’m online shopping, reading blogs, and basically doing everything but studying. If I step away from the computer, I go to the gym!

John – UConn: My study break is when I stop drinking coffee in order to drink beer.

Kari – FSU: My study break looks like Phish Food, a well earned back rub from my boyfriend, and a wonderfully distracting episode of The Office…30 minutes of Jim Halpert’s face will perk me up any day. Read More »
