With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought I’d select songs for this month’s playlist that are all about love. (Check out my other playlists here!) But not in that completely obnoxious, sappy, cheesily romantic way. That’s not my cup of Jungle Juice, ladies.
I’ve never really understood why Valentine’s Day is always only about people in relationships. This is a day about LOVE, not merely romantic love. It should be spent appreciating wherever you are relationship-wise at the moment, be it happily in love/lust, single and satisfied, or going through a break-up with someone you were way. too. good for.
So yes, you will find some love songs on this playlist, like the awesome throwbacks hits of “Ain’t No Other Man,” by Christina Aguilera and “Lost Without U” by Robin Thicke. But you’ll also find those more “therapeutic” songs about love, like Cee-Lo Green’s ex-bashing hit, “F*** You.” And finally, there are songs about enjoying being single, riding solo, and just wanting to be left alone at the bar to do your own thing. I decided that this V-day, I’m going to try something new. Well, two new things, actually.
1. I’m going to spend it single.
2. I’m going to ENJOY it.
I’m going to spend my day imagining how absolutely fantastic and amazing it will be when I finally do find someone to love. Or at least someone I can stand for more than two consecutive months.
So, in keeping with this, I decided to make a playlist with all my favorite love songs (however offbeat and/or cheesy they may be). I’m not gonna spend my Thursday-before-V-Day getting wasted and depressed about all the lovey-dovey bullsh*t I’m going to have to put up with from my friends and their boyfriends the whole weekend. Nope, not me.
Instead, I’m going to sip red wine with my other single lady friends and attempt to manifest my perfect man…who will hopefully come strutting into my life sometime between tonight and Saturday morning.
Enjoy all the sappy goodness here!

James Blunt. Love him or hate him, he certainly knows how to do two things: 1) bed hot models, and 2) write love songs that get said hot models to want to jump into said bed.
Live From Abbey Road, a show that begins its second season on Thursday, June 19th at 10pm E/P on the Sundance Channel, wants to give you a chance to do more than just see James Blunt (and a BUNCH of other awesome artists) in an intimate performance at a legendary setting — they want to give you a chance to WIN stuff. Win stuff while evoking the oh-so-heartfelt spirit of Blunt himself.
In honor of this new show (which features “36 top artists in 1 legendary setting” … awesome), we at CC have teamed up with the promoters of Live From Abbey Road and have decided to give away a cool-ass gift bag worth $180. How does a fateful reader such as yourself win such a bag? Well, originally you did it by writing a love letter using only Blunt lyrics, but it seems that you ladies aren’t that into love letters. It’s ok; we like it better when the boys write them for us, too. Read More »

This morning I tried to watch Good Morning America while I got ready for work, but no such luck whe it came to my diet restrictions. The first commercial break assaulted me with a Hershey’s Kiss commercial displaying a cute couple within the first millisecond and sent me sprinting for the TV to turn it off.
But on an exciting note, (and yes, I realize the following is really not that exciting to a normal person) I stumbled across a Miles Davis CD, and more lucky for me Miles is a man of few words — or rather no words, in his music anyway, so I have safely extend my musical selection to another six songs. Yes.
But here I am in day three of my love-free week, and I am wondering if upon my entrance back into that world with rom-coms, love songs (well, any songs with words really…) sitcoms and their amusing and enviable relationships, along with happily ever after endings will send me into a romantic overload? Here’s to hoping it won’t (obviously you can’t see my raised wine glass, but it’s there. Believe me). Read More »
