Obviously, summer is the perfect time to go all J. Lo and be a bronzed goddess. It’s easy to look good with dewy, sun kissed skin. But it’s not always so easy to achieve said look. With the wrong bronzer application, you’ll look like Snooki. With too much dew, you’ll look like an oil slick. So where’s the in between? I just happen to know. And I love you all so much that I’m going to share it with you.
One of my tricks to bronzer is to make sure you’re not going matte. I like my skin to be matte most of the time, but if I’m using bronzer I keep it fresh, yo. For a bronzed look, I say go with a tinted moisturizer and a spritz of water. It gives you a very “I just came off the beach” feel. That being said, I’ve been using SUPER’s Sun Kissed tinted moisturizer with SPF 25 (safe and pretty!) which can be found at Sephora ($42). It’s pricey, but so great if you have dry or normal skin. For us oily girls, I wouldn’t go near it without a primer and finishing powder. But I love it anyway. And it has lots of healthy stuff in it that works wonders for your skin. Read More »
Summer is the best time of year. There are virtually no responsibilities (unless you’re stuck with classes or work), it’s always time for a margarita, the beach is calling your name and there are tons of hot, shirtless guys. What’s not to love? Oh yeah, the billion degree heat and the humidity! While you can cool off with the beverage of your choosing, your makeup probably won’t last past noon if you’re out and about. Why This Should Be in Your Bag:
If you’re a girl who has flawless skin or just doesn’t feel the need to wear foundation, then you are lucky. And I kinda hate you. I have fairly decent skin but do tend to breakout in the T-zone and experience overall redness. I don’t wear foundation every single day, but I do feel like my skin looks more even when I’m sporting it.
Finding a good foundation is tricky! Firstly, if you have sensitive skin like mine, many foundations may cause breakouts. Second, you need to consider your skin before purchasing a foundation. I have oily skin, so my main concerns are finding a foundation that doesn’t melt away and also controls shine! And third, you know how hard it is to find that perfect color!
Currently, I’m testing out the Korres Wild Rose Foundation with some great results! About the products, Korres says, “Oil-free, fluid foundation easily glides on skin giving a luminous natural finish with buildable long-lasting coverage and sun protection.” Let’s see if it lived up to that wordy promise!
How To Use It:
Because this foundation is extremely fluid, I switch between using my fingers (after being cleaned VERY well) and a foundation brush. I find my fingers to leave a more natural finish. This foundation spreads out very evenly because it’s so watery, but beware, it does dry quick! Make sure you blend into your jawline and hairline really well, and really quickly. Read More »
We’ve all been there: you’re putting on your makeup and all of a sudden you drop your compact. You hesitate to pick it up, scared of what you’ll see inside. And sadly, when you peek inside, all you can see is crushed product. Then, of course, you spill half of it in your makeup bag. Well that’s just great.
After you cry a little inside, what are you supposed to do? You just spent $25 on that nice, high-end blush and now it’s broken.
Well, why not fix it?
As our country’s President once said: Yes. We. Can.
Fixing your broken makeup is easy. All you need is rubbing alcohol, a piece of paper, something to grind up the product with, and a plastic bag. In only a few simple steps, your makeup will be good as new again.
See? Easy. Never buy new product again! If there’s anything else beauty related that you need fixing, let me know in the comments!

Every few months when I start to run out of my high-end make up, I tend to re-evaluate why I’m spending so much money on products. I save up a lot in order to purchase the likes of Make Up For Ever, NARS, MAC, and Urban Decay. But I also think about what I could be spending that money on, and I look into more affordable options. While I absolutely love my high-end brands, I also love drug store brands. Like, the kind of love I usually reserve for peanut butter and chocolate. I have a huge variety of the stuff and I’m a strong advocate for affordable make up.
That’s why I get really excited when brands like Maybelline try to imitate those big makeup brands. You’ve probably seen those TV ads for their new FIT ME collection of foundations and powders. They’re a little annoying, but the product is good. Really good! I was very impressed with how similar the quality was to my high-end products. Plus, it has SPF 18 in the foundation!
My only real qualm was that I couldn’t test the shade in the store. They have a wide spectrum of 18 shades said to fit all skintones, but it’s still a necessity for me to test a shade in the store before I buy it. Also, I recommend using a primer (here’s how it’s done!) with the foundation to help it last. If you’re looking for something that feels like a high-end brand but is extremely affordable, then check this collection out! But first, get my full rundown here: Read More »
Do you remember getting those gigantic makeup kits for your birthday or a holiday? You know, the ones with the cheap lipg loss and eyeshadows, and those tiny lip brushes that never seemed to work right. Well, I recently got a more updated version of that: the NYX Box of Eyeshadows. It’s more sophisticated and actually practical. Plus I scored it for twenty bucks on Hautelook!
NYX is a really great brand and is still independently owned by founder Toni Ko, who started it in her 20′s (what have you done with your life?). It’s definitely a brand worth checking out! While the color pigmentation wasn’t as striking as I hoped for, this still remains a huge addition to my makeup collection. With 112 colors, it’s a pretty useful palette. I found that these were best used wet because the color payoff when used dry was a little light. Adding just a little bit of water to my brush amped these babies right up and gave me the true color that I actually saw in the giant box.

Shobha Brow Pencil in Earth (for brunettes)
Why This Should Be in Your Bag:
Brows are an often overlooked beauty asset. Shaping your brows can completely change your face and paying attention to them can really pull your look together. Can you imagine a beautiful starlet, strolling down the red carpet with unruly brows? Never!
Shobha is a great company I’ve recently become acquainted with. It started out as a hair-removal salon and has quickly expanded to several locations in New York, as well as a full line of hair-removal and beauty products. Shobha aims to keep its products 100% natural and therefore, significantly decrease the consumer’s risk of allergic reaction. It also prides itself on using eco-friendly packaging, which I like! You always hear beauty experts say, “Don’t match your makeup to your outfit.” I disagree. I think as long as you don’t look like one of Rainbow Brite’s sprites threw up all over you, then go for it. What’s wrong with a little coordination?
This weekend, I had a masquerade cocktail party which was the perfect excuse to wear really over-the-top eye makeup. My mask wasn’t all too exciting: black, white, and silver. My dress was black, my shoes were black. Yawn.
So I found these fun and sparkly turquoise earrings and decided to match my makeup and nail polish to them for some pops of color. It was perfectly OK because it wasn’t a total head-to-toe, matchy matchy look. And everyone loved it! The key is to not match your makeup to everything on your person. But matching to one or two accessories or using an outfit color for inspiration is not only an acceptable way to go, but the way to go.
So let’s get down to business, shall we? In this week’s video, I’ll be showing you how to do an fierce turquoise smokey eye.
When it comes to our lips, there is no shortage of products for making them stand out. Lipstick, lip gloss, lip stain, lip tint…what on earth is the difference? You might not think there is one, but, oh, there is!
Lipsticks are more opaque, lip glosses are shiny (sometimes sticky), lip stains are like markers, and lip tints are like tinted moisturizers for your lips. But lip tints also have many other uses, which is why they’re oh so fabulous!
I love it when a product can multitask, especially if it’s expensive because it makes me feel better about using my grocery money for beauty products. (And no, I do not have a problem, OK?) Lip tints are the best multitasking beauty products out there; they’re great for travelers, awesome for those who aren’t into using a lot of products, and wonderful for makeup lovers like myself who just need something new in their beauty arsenal!
And that’s why I’m dedicating this video to them. So watch, learn and fall in love with lip tints.
